I would LOVE to see you do a deep dive on V2 of Sensory Percussion. The way they’ve revamped the software and hardware is MASSIVE and really opens it up to more accessibility (lots of ways to use other MIDI/triggers/control options). The modular approach is insane and the things I’ve accomplished with it over V1 are night and day.

Fingers crossed Roland gets their heads out of their butts and actually offers better stock sounds in a new update to the TD27/50 modules. Was very disappointed in the stock kits and EDrum Workshop came in clutch with some really good kits and samples for my TD27 module on my VAD504. Otherwise I really wish the EFnote kits had some sort of SD capabilities for importing samples and processed kits into it.

Hey Justin.. if you have not done it already... an in-depth look at hihats and how good they actually are in regards to sound. Do the sound react after a strike when you move the pedal.... crossfades.. splash ups and so on... simply put.. is the hihat a "sound selector" or an organic experience on hi end/low end and so on. :)

One thing I'd really like to see in the future is an open source e-drum module that can host any and every drum VSTi on the planet, somewhat similar to the Pearl Module but an open source design that will host any VST drum library in the world. There are so many great sounding libraries out there it would be great to have an e-drum module where you just load up your favorite VST drum library and be good to go. If I, as a non drummer, am thinking about this, then I'm sure some hardware and software developers are thinking about this as well. Something to consider for the future of e-drums?

If you're just talking about the sounds, you can do that with any module that lets you import your own multi-layer samples. If you're talking about the programs themselves--paid VSTs refuse to even support Linux. Unfortunately a Surface + edrumin is the closest we're realistically going to get for a while :/

@@BFedie518 Thanks for the feedback. What I'm kind of imagining is more along the lines of the old Muse Receptor that use to host VSTi's. But geared more toward e-drums. It would kind of be like a portable computer/edrum module that could host every Drum VSTi on the planet and configure those drum VSTi's to any existing e-drum set up. We have the technology to do that kind of a build. It's just a matter of who is going to pull the trigger on that idea first. If I had the engineering chops I'd probably take a crack at coming up with at least a working prototype.

@@BFedie518Thanks for the feedback, Brandon. You're probably right about getting the manufacturers of Drum VSTi's to play along. Maybe if someone could work out some kind of Licensing deal with them that may convince some reluctant Drum VSTi manufactures that it could work in their best interests to expand their market share. Just a thought.

Hi Justin! Thanx for your work, it's amazing! A question: I'm browsing with no rush for my first e-kit (restarting playing drums after a 20&more years stop, in an environment where I can't slam on the acoustic set ). I'm oriented towards the yamaha dtx6k3-x and the roland td 17 kvx2. I'm leaning on the yamaha, because it seems more compact (space is an issue), I seem to prefer the sounds of the module (you described as "punchier"), the hihat stand is included ad it cost less. On the other hand what I like about the roland is the fact that the toms are dual zone. At this point the main discrimination is the machine gun effect, and there's my question: is there any difference between yamaha and roland, using specifically their modules? The machine gun effect is less prominent using vsts? Unfortunately, there are no stores in my area where I can try both modules side by side. Thanks for all!

If I were you I would be looking for a second hand yamaha DTX 582K or dtx 700K/720K or 750K. These sound decent for their age but are really robust. The TCS heads are so quiet. Your main issue is the thud of the kick tower and hi hat through the floor for your neighbours.

For what it's worth, I've had one for a few weeks and love it. It's my first kit, wanted one for a while with all the features of the Titan 70 but that used to be impossible to get for less than a grand afaik. I think the price is great especially when they're $700 or less. I replaced the stock kick pedal with a double pedal and the kick pad is fantastic. Plenty of surface area and stays planted no matter how much I abuse it. The mesh heads and cymbal pads are surprisingly durable. I've been beating the hell out of them and already worn out the included sticks yet the heads still look new. Good luck!

IMHO, Sensory Percussion is incomparable with any of these drum kits; the modular approach and control is simply on a different level from traditional drum triggers. It takes a second to set up, but the control and possibilities are unparalleled.

Simmons is kinda/sorta the USA equivalent to Millennium in the EU. Simmons is a house brand of Guitar Center, and Millennium is the house brand of Thommen. Different manufactures make the drums though.

I'm a little disappointed that so much. Attention is being put on the fact that the Alyssa's Nitro max's rack is unstable. Because I just bought it and it doesn't move at all with me. I don't know maybe i'm playing it In just the right configuration, but it's pretty solid. And I'm actually quite impressed with it. And the fact that it has so much upgrade capability. I think that it hasn't been overhyped. I think it's gotten the justified amount of attention. I don't think it's truly understood how much versatility This kit has and for its price range. You don't have to dump a bunch of money into it to upgrade it to make it a pro. Kit

All modules aside, if you're using drum software like Perfect Drums, etc. wouldn't that cancel any argument about the quality of sounds coming from the module out of the box? If quality sounds is your goal, wouldn't the software take care of that no matter what kit you use? I used to have the Roland KVX-2 with all the extra cymbals, kick pads, etc. and the module was great but I used Perfect Drums to really get the sound I wanted. Couldn't this be applied to say the Donner DED200 or any of the Alesis kits? It's just such a jump in price from Donner's 400-500 bucks to 2000 for the roland higher end stuff.

Trigger accuracy is one part we're leaving out. Love or hate the Japanese brands, their triggering is just better than some of the cheaper Chinese kits. But in general I do agree with you that software does help save a lot of money. I use Superior Drummer 3 every day on my kit. I'm still not a fan of Donner yet

Trigger input accuracy still matters. For example they older Alesis DM10 has a lot of trigger input innacuracy

So you don't have an issue with their website showing no real contact information, website built by a school kid, no real information about their "wonderful" products, no support section i.e. manuals, trigger settings, most of the pads have centre triggers (hot spotting), poor product design, poor quality materials, videos with no depth, etc etc etc.
