I wrote that manual, I was pulling my hair out watching this! Look in the CG section, the steel rod is a heavier option part for the tail joiner to shift the CG for 3D. Happy landings!

We eventually found that out however the landing gear is very poorly designed you have to understand we have been flying thease planes for 6 years and most of the assembly is common sence.

I just bought the Turbo Timber. In the GC section, nothing is written about the heavier option part. I think a comment would have been very helpful. I don't like to end up with leftover parts leaving me blank if I should have used them or not...

I just ordered a Timber X ... My concern is a few guys at my local club have had issues with their Timber's main gear, complaining it's a known weak spot. Since I have not yet received or assembled the plane, I was wondering if you might have a recommendation of how to strengthen this area , during the build and before I take it out to the field. Also, the field I fly from offers the choice of a very rough asphalt pad with a lot of cracks or an area of longish rough grass. Also I am a somewhat beginner pilot and would appricate any advise you can offer when I maiden it.... Thanks ....
