I've owned mine going on three years this December. We have been through quite a bit together. Even after many repairs it still flies awesomely!

Just ordered one of these. I will be using your video on assembly. This is by far the best one I've seen on building a new plane. Period!!! Thank you for a informative video.

I made mine into a trail dragger after the front wheel bar kept bending. I went through two of them. The notch in that rod is the weak point and upon any hard landings will bend over. I would highly recommend getting the larger wheels for this plane as it tends to mow the lown on slighly longer grass. I flew my Apprentice 4 years before wearing it out. Its a great trainer and easy to repair. You can use boat two part epoxy if the plastic motor mount comes loose. That will eventually happen as the plane ages. Replace the wing rubber bands every year. They will weaken with age and break. I added strip LED lighting to mine also.

I highly advise that you use the vertical stabilizer screws to tap out vertical stabilizer before installing. The screws are very hard to screw in with parts assembled. High probability you will strip out screw head if you don't tap out 1st.

I have had and Apprentice s15e for almost two years, a great plane. I belong to a flying club and I had a lot of help at the beginning. After some crashes, one of the members suggested that I get a certain tape for support. That tape I can only get at Ace Hardware. It is called strapping (for packing) tape .94 inches by 60 yd. It is a super strong tape, almost transparent that has linen strands running inside the tape. After breaking off the tail a few times and the elevator, I ran a piece on both sides all the way down both sides of the fusalage, under the elevator and any other weak spots. It blends in and is a very strong reinforcement. This is a good plane to learn on and to maintain.

z bud I use regular packing tape, its clear and strong, use 3M, not the cheap thin stuff.

Have my first maiden flight today with the Apprentice. The sheer size of this craft is intimidating as a beginning pilot but made good use of the RF8 simulator to fly it. Luckily I followed your building instructions to the letter and all went well. Thanks again !

Great video. I just built mine 2 weeks ago using the manual before seeing your video, but you covered just about every part of that, as well as a few additional insights like the Velcro. One question. Do you open the air holes in the bottom of the empennage? The manual does not mention them, but I wonder how warm the motor and battery get in flight. They are just foam plugs, but I wonder if they are meant to be opened. Your thoughts?
@DroneHow8 жыл бұрын
+Jason Phipps I wouldn't see any issues with opening the holes. But the motor rarely even gets warm. The prop wash and motion keep it cool for the most part. The ESC also doesn't get very warm. If you're flying the craft and not pushing it way too hard, you certainly won't have any heat related issues. This really isn't meant to be an acrobatic aircraft. It's a trainer and if flown like one, overheating won't be an issue.

Ordering one of these this weekend wanted an RC plane as a child and I'm 25 now. I've got gsxr 600 and newer turbo audi just looking for some nerdy fun. Realistically and I know it depends on practice but how soon will I be able to move on an EDF Sabre or Mig 15?

I successfully binded my Apprentice STS to Spectrum DX6 but upon doing so, I noticed the rudder being way off center. I tried fully trimming it to the left and almost got it to center, but not quite. How do I mechanically adjust the rudder so it's center without trim? I tried unscrewing the servo but there's two steel rods attached to the servo arm from opposite directions, making it impossible to adjust.
@kenfretwell79474 жыл бұрын
Peter L ,disconnect the end of the rod from the rudder .then rotate the clevis(which is screwed on to the rod)to extend or shorten the effective length.see page 5 ,item 4 of Tail Installation in manual.

thanks for all those details.

I have the bnf version of Apprentice STS and I successfully binded it to my Gen 3 Spektrum DX6 transmitter. And I successfully assigned channel 5 to use switch D for the SAFE modes. However after binding, the plane only shows green led light(beginner mode) and not blue(intermediate) or red(experienced) even after I flipped the switch. Do you know why I can't get this plane out of beginner mode?
