If only you had a time machine to fix it the game would have success than failure, but i think it might create a butterfly effect that the modern consoles will not be on top and atari would still be making consoles.

Nintendo would still be a thing and most likely be on top. When Sony would enter the market, would Atari modernize and basically become Xbox, or would they only focus on Nintendo. I think Sony & Nintendo would still have their fall out.

This game did not cause the gaming industry to crash. It was the enormous amount of shovelware being put out that ruined the game industry. This game was one of a few that dared to try things console games weren't really doing at the time. Games like Raiders of the Lost Ark, Haunted House, Superman, Adventure and Dragonstomper were some of the only others. If ET came out for the NES it most definitely would have been better implemented but it was too ambitious for the system and too outside the box for most kids playing games at the time.

@@ultrairrelevantnobody1862 exactly I remember as a kid not having trouble playing and beating e.t. first thing I did was read the manual it wasn't hard at all and there was no used game stores selling the game with no manuals back then gamers were either lazy or only wanted simple casual games

Nice fixes! I'm sure the original would have been a much better game if Howard Scott Warshaw had had more than about 5 weeks to program it (average 2600 game development time was 3 to 6 months). Still, I'm sure HSW would be glad to see these improvements.

I don't think he ever flew by raising his neck.. but he did make a bike fly.. just search "ET flies" or something to see how they do it in the movie.

It'd be great if Atari would recharge this game to make it actual finished game etc. I think Atari is in a very unique position. They have the ability to create sequels to any of the games in there library to represent every console generation (of course I'm referring mostly towards the generations inwhich Atari had no console). They should also perfect every controller they released, taking care of past issues. If they could create at least one modern game they could create prequals for each generation as well. An exclusive contract of some sort with Google stadia would be a win. Last but not least the court case they lost which allowed the other company to play their games. We'll pay back should be a must. Hopefully creating a new paralleled console war, possibly? It be awesome if it happens, time will tell!

The one thing I would say is when you run it should take power away, same with floating. That's still power consumption. Now walking I don't see a reason to take power away. That's the only suggestion I have, otherwise excellent mods!

It might be just me but I think it isn’t that bad of a game I mean it’s frustrating but it’s not bad I kinda like it when I first beat it was so excited and that fact it was made in like 6 weeks is actually amazing with the amount of time given it’s a fully functional game with no real game breaking glitches at least I haven’t found any

Frankly the falling into whole was the biggest problem with it. Other than that it wasn't any worse than the Indiana Jones game for the Atari 2600. Which was also cryptic as fuck and needed the instructions to figure out.

The reason why the ET game was bad is because the creator didn't have enough time to develop Ga,es back then take 6 months to develop but ET had a rushed 5 weeks

ET wasn't really a bad game per say, I mean it definitely had it's faults, but most people just didn't read the manual that came with the game. Back in those days reading the manual for the games was needed or you'll run into masses thinking it was a bad game because they couldn't get anywhere with it. There is a whole slew of games for the VCS/2600 that was far far far worse than what ET was. What really contributed to the USA game crash was all the clones and actual bad games that flooded the market.

With my fixes, it go from "WORST game of all-time" to "MOST disappointing game of all-time". It only got this due to E.T being so popular of a movie.

How so? For a game of it's time, it's only fault was not warping you to a safe location, once you floated up out of the pit. That one little change, and they would called it a MEH game, instead of the worst game ever.

If this game is bugfixed, has new game modes and such - it doesn't matter. E.T. for the 2600 still remains the worst game ever made on earth. When will we get finally rid of this shitty title, maybe by destroying all the cartridges sold worldwide that are still surviving to this day? I can't wait.
