I'd like to build a Javelin. I remember staring at them in the magazines as a kid. But I'd need to buy 2 kits, one to drive and one for a shelf queen because these cars are a classic and look great.

Thanks for being real about having to film and build at the same time. 100% nailed it (it can absolutely suck the fun out of it at times). I think the way you shot this was just as good as a timelapse if not better. I for one appreciate all the effort you guys put into production (it's not easy). Great job again and the minty fresh cage is amazing!

Great review! I have a re-re Javelin. It was the first RC car I bought after 35 years away from the hobby. Now I am up to 10 kits since July, including a Turbo Optima, a few Tamiya re-re models of the ones I wanted back in the '80s, as well as a Schumacher CAT XLS - all yet to build. The Kyosho models are certainly a step up from the Tamiya ones. The plastic seems to be of a higher grade and toughness and I just love all the aluminum parts and hex head screws. Another great thing about these Kyosho re-res is they come complete with ball bearings! My Javelin features a Hobbywing Justock setup 10.5T, running on 2S lipo with the optional and recommended-for-brushless 51 tooth spur gear from Kyosho and a 30 tooth pinion. It goes like stink! Close to 40 MPH. The motor and ESC have held up well. They hardly get hot. The 51 tooth spur gear is very sturdy and shows no wear that I can see, even after running the hell out of it.

Sounds like a great spec you have there. Do you know if its possible to run a 2S lipo shorty in the Javelin/Optima?
@toolman82693 жыл бұрын
@@frankymal8640 : The kit is designed to support a standard or short pack. You just move the battery holder plates inward. My LiPo battery is 24mm tall and a snug fit, so make sure the short pack is no taller than that.

@@scottnorton6834 yeah tower has been out of stock of the kyosho kits since the beginning of the spring 2020. The allow you to pre-order but... keep pushing the dates back. In the spring of 2020 I was going to pre-order the Beetle 2014 and Javelin. Kyosho said they would get them by July 2020. Then they kept pushing it back month by month and here we are March 2021 and still nothing. I hope they get restocked soon.

PS about your lightweight oil....Back in around 90-91, there was a trend at our local track to use water instead of shock oil. The "fast" guys said they got better action out of their shocks.... Who knows....
@jadc3 жыл бұрын
Just built myself a Turbo Scorpion re-release. The kits are amazing quality, and the car handles really well, but I do think it's maybe a bit soft out of the box. For your track though, I think that Javelin will be awesome.

Javelin or Optima for some good old vintage racing? I’m trying to decide which one to pick up? They seem to be virtually the same chassis. The Optima is actually available while the Javelin is not in stock. Come on Kyosho! Thanks again!

Not sure if anyone mentioned it or not yet but the original Javelin and Optima series buggies all had metal steering knuckles not plastic.

Hey in case that roll cage breaks could always use the orange when it came in the kit.
@bradkalman23533 жыл бұрын
hey Ari I think the next four wheel drive you should make one belted and one should be chained drive just to see if there be a difference. you know they have an optional white colored one too there might be another colored one after the orange also.

I have one of these and just built and I built it with chain drive and I dropped a tamiya sport tuned motor in and it is very slow any ideas ? Is the motor to weak.
@RCRetro2 жыл бұрын
If you want something faster I'd recommend swapping the motor out. A tamiya Sport Tuned will give you a little extra oomph.. but not much. Possibly a Tamiya BZ super stock motor....or a 19turn motor if you want to keep it brushed. It depends on how much faster you want to go. Then there is the possibility of going brushless...there are many possibilities....off hand I don't recall what I have in my Javelin at the moment as I'm not home right now..
