In this video, I finish the build of the Kyosho Javeline before taking it for a test run. I made a good few mistakes in this build but all of them are down to me. I even had a chance to give the buggy a quick test run to round off the video. Next up is the dial in the buggy and fit some brushless power before setting a time around the BGRAT Track. Can this vintage gem take the top slot?

LOVE the video and channel Gavin, thank you, RC car lover as a young kid and I ordered the original Javelin out of Tower Talk when it was released:) I am 47 now, your vid brings back SOOO many memories of joy, how good it felt to finish and run, the 4WD was a thrill. I wanted the Optima SO bad though, they were out, same innards so I bought, I have the original BOX displayed proudly in my workshop. My 4 cars in the 80's were Bolink Digger, Wild Willy, Super Champ, and Javelin. My Wild Willy was my favorite looker and runner, I HAVE it, ordered the new tires coming out of Japan (same as Grasshopper) and will install, running all original save for adding a new pack and electric ESC:) Hard core modeler at 47, MANY planes, N Scale railroad empire, pondering getting back into cars:) Eye on a boat:) Life short, and cheers to you and your wonderful wife!

Vqs are also very cool. The kyoshos however are built like tanks and you don't feel like they are going to break every time you run them. I run my Optima hard and it keeps coming back for more

Don’t get me wrong I’m a big Tamiya fan and I also have a Vanquish + VQS in the collection. When reflecting on the price and what you get between the VQS and the Javelin, it really is a bit of an eye opener. My only issue with Kyosho currently is parts availability and new rere releases. We haven’t seen another classic released since the Fantom last year.

One day i'll get to build a Kyosho from a new kit. Kyosho's vintage series just ooze class & seems to resolve issues for modern running that Tamiya just ignore with their re-releases. PS; I love your continued enthusiasm but also your honesty in the videos, always very watchable & entertaining - Thank you!

Awesome build, loved building mine. I have orange, black and red, roll cages, all of the rear wings are solid, none have broken. I recommend the OTW133S under guard, I got a crack in the bottom of the rear gearbox after it scraped on the ground a number of times, no problems since. Also the hobbywing 10BL120 is a nice brushless ESC that you can fit in the standard location, just remove the fan! Hope you enjoy running it!

The new plastic ones last a lot better than the original polycarbonate ones did. he new mounting style is better too. The old way was a couple body posts through the wing secured by body clips. They always took a ton of abuse and would end up full of cracks. Actually, there are quite a few improvements in the rerelease Javelin bodies.

I do t have any Tamiya OR Kyosho models in my collection yet... but I would 100% rather have a Kyosho kit compared to any Tamiya I have looked into... I really do want at least a couple Tamiyas also, but the lack of bearings and oil shocks on a lot of them, or the lack of any modernization in the re-release stuff, like gearbox, steering, or updated materials for some parts... I get that it would likely make them cost a bit more, but maybe they need to come out with a Mk2 or DLX series, where they handle a bit better and you don't have to worry about looking at the sideways and breaking them. I hope to snag a Ultima and Turbo Optima before they're all gone, and the Optima Mid... the gold one would probably be the one that would be just for collecting, the Ultima and Mid would be runners...

I built a re-re Javelin earlier this year after having a few Kyoshos including an Optima Pro back in the day. Anyway, I discovered the other day that the Javelin's orange frame glows under a UV/blacklight. I don't know if it was intentional by Kyosho, or even what to do with this knowledge, but there it is! It'd look cool on its shelf with a blacklight over it, I suppose. :)

Looks great. Interesting you brought up the VQS comparison. Before release I really wanted one but was put off by the price. Was looking for a re re retro buggy but was a bit lost. The fact the Top Force and Egress are coming out could work so how would you rate the Javelin against those. And even the VQS? Thanks!
@RCKickschannel
@RCKickschannel 3 жыл бұрын
If you can get a Top Force Evo you did well as most are sold out already. It depends what you want the buggy for really. For racing I would get the Evo, for looks, quality and build experience the Turbo Optima for sure. I don't think you will go wrong with the the Turbo, Egress or the Evo really. The VQS is below these cars so comes in last on this list. If you swap out the G11 part and front tower to carbon it looks great and makes the VQS buggy feel a bit more special but it's hard to recommend at the price point. I think that's why we still see so many for sale.

I kicked him from the channel posts and reported him to KZbin. Sorry you had to deal with that. All the RCKicks video chat, RCKicks Facebook chat and group chat should be a friendly and safe place.

I would love one and I'm a big fan. I missed the release kits and before I knew it all had sold out on me. If we get a reissue again I will 100% get one. A stunning looking buggy.
