Reggie is a very well trained speaker always has been. In the industry, game developers, studio execs, PR, or game people who have to deal with the press are given set answers to certain questions. PR train the interviewee to expect certain questions so they can deflect. Dealing with certain interviewers like Geoff Keighley, a person like Reggie is given information and a heads up on what the potential questions are and who the interviewer is.

The difference between EAD and SWWS is that SWWS is an umbrella for all Sony development studios, EAD is an umbrella for many of their teams, not all. My point was that they both contain teams that develop exclusively for their owners and that they are both within their respective companies.

Difference: I didn't say Nintendo was Darden cause that's not their relationship with the EAD branches. They didn't "acquire" the EAD branches. They made them by expanding and adding them as assets in that manner. Sony would be Darden because they acquired others into SWWS, but due to that, Santa Monica can't be Olive Garden, but Naughty Dog can. Santa Monica would be similar to Darden expanding and adding assets on their own somehow (even though the real Darden wouldn't do that...).

You can argue all you want about how many Mario games there are, but that's a testament to how popular and how well each Mario, each Nintendo franchise sells. Considering the PS4 and XB1 versions of Destiny, Titanfall, and Watchdogs are the premier versions and would probably be the best place to experience the game, I would say they are major. I know that Respawn is focusing their entire development team on the XB1 version and another team is doing the 360 and PC versions.
@rmrm1mrmr11 жыл бұрын
And most regular people still don't know that the WiiU is really a thing. More people are aware of the XB1 and PS4 coming out at the end of this year than they are of the WiiU. Yes, there will be shared ports, but as soon as the differences between versions is realized and if they are very noticeable, people will move on to the next console. Using a graphical example, the Watchdogs version for next gen and current gen is huge to say the least.

Sonic has some push power, I'd say. Like I said, it would take a library of games to help sell a system, and Sonic will likely deliver as an appealing title (especially since there was a commotion similar to Bayonetta 2 that occurred when Nintendo mentioned their partnership with Sega and the exclusive Sonic games). Problem with Titanfall and Destiny is that they're available on the current gen systems as well. They may help sell systems, but they don't seem major for the XB1 or the PS4.

So your questions are: Where's the graphics? Where's the gore? Where's the new games that I'll get, then trade in for new games because they aren't well made? Granted, all game companies have made a crappy game, but I do play certain systems (Nintendo/ Sony) over others, just because they have games I like and have quality.

Look at what has happened to Rayman: Legends. A former WiiU exclusive. It's been delayed, one of the main reasons is that it has taken the team time to also develop for the other consoles. It is being developed for the other systems is because of the WiiU sales Ubisoft expected fell below their expectations. The problem is that Rayman: Legends will probably sell more on the 360 and PS3 moreso than it will on the WiiU.

An Ambassador program would certainly work with the Wii U if they pull it off just right. 3DS had NES and GBA games, so the Wii U equivalent should include gamecube games. But anyways, the Wii U's benefit compared to the Vita is that the Vita is actually getting more software in Japan right now, which would help explain sales. As far as NA sales go though, Wii U has been catching up to the Vita despite the year difference between the two. Ultimately, they both sell when games come out for them.

I'm expecting a price cut at some point. I think it's also worth noting that the Vita actually has some success in Europe and Japan. Not much, of course, but it's not doing as bad as most people think it is (still nothing close to good though). The strange thing is that the Vita, despite being a handheld, took longer to reach a million sales in Japan than the Wii U did. Handhelds generally tower over consoles in sales there. Dunno if this speaks worse for the Vita or better for the Wii U, so eh.

Here's a list of what is hurting the WiiU: - Lack of games and still lack of games until next year. - Poor marketing leading to consumer confusion. Isn't the WiiU an attachment to the Wii? - 3rd party publishers jumping ship - Who is the console for? Originally it was to reclaim the "hardcore" gamer. - What other services can the WiiU provide? This is important to get the general consumer. - WiiU online experience feel so far behind and bad, there's no faith in it.

It's not only for kids. You know a lot of older people still love to play Mario, because it is challenging and it is fun to play. Nintendo is like Disney, they can cater to all generations of people. Nintendo plays to the crowd that grew up with them without alienating younger generations. You don't need realistic graphics, explosions, and guns to be considered hardcore.

The first Call of Duty came out in 2003. The first Assasin's Creed came out in 2007. The first Splinter Cell came out in 2002. The first Halo came out in 2001, the first Uncharted came out in late 2007, the first Zelda came out in 1986 and the first Mario came out in freaking 1981!! So you can't compare those franchises at all, taking into account that Mario is both the same gameplay, action and outdated 2D angle for 30 years, that's almost half a century.

Like I said, EAD comes from Nintendo's growth as a company, like new branches on a tree, and doesn't include any acquired companies like Game Freak and Retro. I know that SWWS isn't SOLELY made of acquired companies, but the vast majority of them are, with a few outliers. Those outliers don't necessarily debunk the overall point being made behind ownership and development.
@ChipnDipz111 жыл бұрын
Hey...that actually worked out. Someone named one single IP for Sony...which isn't even coming out yet. But to be fair, Sony's Japan branch did churn out a decent list of games if you do the research. Only difference is that they aren't even 1/10 as successful as Nintendo's current IPs. It's difficult coming out with high quality games over and over, making sure they sell, AND making your own hardware to sell it on. I mean, Trash Panic? The Last Guy? Soul Sacrifice? Who's heard of this stuff?

They're employees, but that's a technicality of working for a company that has been acquired. Like I said, if you make an Olive Garden menu, you aren't making a menu for Darden Restaurants. You're making a menu for Olive Garden, which is under Darden Restaurants. Sony, in relation to SCE WWS, is like Darden Restaurants. Sony Santa Monica and the SCE Japan branch are peculiar, but I don't think they invalidate my point. If that were the case, Retro would be a part of EAD...but it isn't.

One of the problems, is that if Nintendo tries something new and it fails, it hurts them financially. They need their games to sell and using the Mario brand and other IPs is a sure way to sell. While we may be tired of those games, those games still sell very very well.

Only time will tell. The second half of the year is bound to be pretty interesting. Nintendo is dishing out some of their largest IPs on handheld and console and MS/Sony are entering their consoles into the race. I'm still waiting on TGS before I can say anything more on the PS4. After how MS handled themselves, I think Sony doesn't have to worry too much about many of the regular gamers, but their lack of Japanese games might hurt them at home. XB1's tv features might help it a lot, honestly.

Yes, but considering the negative reaction to the "more digital" policies of Xbox One, people don't seem to be ready for it just yet, and many are very content with still using physical discs. Sure, things ARE moving in a more digital direction, which is why the external storage is already an option. Also, Flash Storage doesn't just "speed it up by a little," SSDs are NIGHT AND DAY faster than HDDs. Let's not forget that HDDs heat up a lot more due to all the friction and moving parts.

The problem with 3rd parties is that they don't have any real consistency. The Wii U is in a fairly similar situation as the PS3 was, which was even worse off because the architecture was difficult to work with. According to what some devs have said, the main thing with the Wii U is gamepad usability, which is easily remedied with using 5 minutes and 2 lines of code (according to the Darksiders 2 devs). The quality of a port dictates whether it'd sell. See: Sonic and All Stars Racing Transformed

You missed my point. "Hardcore" and "Casual" I think are being taken a little out of context. Sure, there are many games that are faster paced, but fast paced + shooter does not make a game "hardcore". If you also noticed, I put both "Hardcore" and "Casual" in quotations because that sort of labeling of a game really boils down to the person playing it. I'm not saying you're idea of what's "hardcore" or not is wrong, but merely the concept of labeling based on what YOU feel is fact, wrong.

Ubisoft has to spread Rayman out on the 3 systems, because WiiU exclusivity will net them less money than being on all 3 systems. Then you're also talking about how specs-wise the WiiU is on par with the 360 and PS3, but is more than/ just as much as the PS3 and 360 (depending on the SKU of those). It doesn't have the library of games both have nor the support of 3rd parties (yet). What it does have, which is good, is at least some disc-based backwards compatibility.

360 managed to get through somewhat unscathed, because of the foothold it established by coming out a year ahead. People had friends on XBL, a game library, and their gamerscores they didn't want to give up. Sony makes a new mascot every generation. The bad thing about using the same IP, is that it constricts a developer and does not let them use their creativity to create something entirely new. Part 2: Same for most of the other Mario releases we've seen. It's just that going from the Wii, to the DS, to the Wii U, they had a lot of room to work with (well, this formula is for Mario primarily). Anyway, it all depends on who your audience is and what you're doing. Nintendo can afford to use Mario more than others can use their IPs, so they do. Ubisoft churns out AC annually, and CoD's an annual thing too. All still great franchises, even if they didn't win "GOTY" recently.
@ChipnDipz111 жыл бұрын
Can't argue with that, but the bad side of spitting up random 1-n-done IPs is that you're not investing in it. It might sell 1mil or so and fade away, or it'll be a huge hit, win some awards, and once again...disappear. It's not like others like Sega and Sony didn't try it before. Everyone was making mascots and iconic characters. Mario's the one that won the fight from back then, and Sonic's the only survivor, albeit not doing too hot. Standing the test of time is important when making IPs.

And this is where you're wrong as well. Being acquired does not excuse the fact, that they are all now internally Sony employees. The SCEA branch also existed before SWWS was formally created. That included Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog. The SCE Japan branch which includes Team ICO also existed as well before SWWS. SWWS is not only acquired studios over time but also the studios they had prior. SWWS is inside Sony as well otherwise it wouldn't be called such.

If you have people invest through online purchases you ensure that people will always check in on that store front.
