Iwata and his executives took the pay cut because of the 3DS because the launch was so bad. Overall it is a massive success and is still trucking along very well. What f89ry failed to explain was the time and period that it failed at, and made it sound like it was a failure altogether, which it wasn't. /endthread

Kaptaindo Honestly as someone who is fairly new to Nintendo, it's been a blast to finally buy their consoles. I bought a Wii U in october and Played Bayonetta for the first time, and DKC,LOZ,and Metroid for the first time on Wii U this december. Then I got a 3ds in late February, and played Fire Emblem,Monster Hunter, Majora's Mask, and more for the first time! it's amazing!

Kaptaindo not really. The gameboy, gameboy color, gameboy advance, ds, and even the psp, sold way way more. It sold kinda badly for a nintendo handheld.

When you think about it, 3D without the glasses is a remarkable technological achievement. And to think Nintendo, a video game company, was the 1st to make that possible. I'm still waiting for that day where glasses-free 3D is more widespread, especially in movie theatres. I don't like putting glasses over glasses. :/

BlazingWarwolf That's because the 3DS' top screen is designed for a single person to view it. You know how if you tilt your head slightly, the image becomes distorted? This was fixed with the New 3DS, but it still can only face track one person. In a movie theater, there might be 100 people present, and if the same glasses-free technology is placed on that screen, then only one or two people might be able to see the 3D effect, while the others get distorted images. Technology still hasn't figured out how to produce a glasses-free 3D effect for more than one person sitting at different angles from the screen.

Pikmin shorts are available for purchase. Right out of the gate, there was poor reception to 3DS video downloads. They tried movie trailers (Green Lantern comes to mine), but few accessed them due to SD card restraints and a small install base. Streaming simply makes more sense for the 3DS, but I agree, it would be nice to see more 3D content.

Yea, its kinda funny that they mentioned "Hollywood" on screen. It was cool when the 3DS first came out having apps like Swapnote and Nintendo Video. It was cool to watch short episodes of cartoons, music videos, and game trailers right from that app. I loved that it downloaded the movies from wifi in sleep mode and then you could watch them on the go without needing an internet connection. For some reason they cancelled the service for that app. Its a shame because I enjoyed it when it was new. After a while the quality of the content just got worse but there was potential there. I would love to get my Nintendo Directs through an app like that.

I'd say the problem is worse with Wii U. Many people are aware that the 3DS is an upgrade from the DS, you can tell simply by the games graphics it's way beyond the DS. People think the Wii U is a weird controller for the Wii.

Here's a man in his 30s who remembers this launch but never got to experience any of this as having something like this for me on my 20s was IMPOSSIBLE. I just blocked everything around things I couldn't get and got by with the things I could, which were still pretty decent. It's weird to explain how it feels being nostalgic about something you totally missed, but it is not a good feeling. Hope tech and gaming gets back to be as exciting as it was in 2000s and early 2010s. This hurts...

LanCeeXD No lol, the nes didn't have any peripherals because it didn't need any, on a couple of games such as rad racer, you could press select and it would go into 3d mode, and if you have 3d glasses you could view it.
