I have never really been a fan of the franchise, but there is no denying that J K Rowling has certainly earned our respect. Hogwarts Legacy is a very respectable game, but the controversy surrounding it is despicable, hypocritical and speaks to a wider problem with public discourse. So lets take a look at the commotion surrounding the nice wizard lady, and her rather excellent video game.

I was the Game Director for Chicken Little: Ace in Action and the original producer for Hanna Montana. I'm proud of both games because they played to their respective audiences and treated the IP's with respect rather than as shovelware knockoffs. Both of these games are better than you expect them to be (go on, try 'em! They really are!). Avalanche's secret is that we have a long history of treating IP's like this. Hogwarts Legacy made a billion dollars, but so too did Avalanche's game series immediately prior: Disney Infinity. If you were one of those people who didn't think Avalanche was the right studio to make Hogwarts Legacy, you just weren't paying attention to what we were good at. Anyway, I was also the guy that the press went after because I called them out years before on my KZbin channel. I was calling out the Gaming Press in 2016. They came at me in 2021. I think they saw me as a soft target of opportunity that they could get as collateral damage in their zeal to tear down the game. Indeed, they caught me at a time when I was vulnerable because I had just moved from Utah to Nevada to assist with some mental health issues involving my parents. When the press articles hit, I was already "on the bubble" regarding my ability to continue to juggle work and family issues. I made the decision to resign both so that I could focus on my family issues as well as to try and take some heat off the team. Anyway, this is an excellent video and I'm looking forward to the next video in your series!

Watched your videos back in the day, and you always came across as a level-headed and genuinely nice bloke, and despite not being a HP fan in any way shape or form, I thoroughly enjoyed the game. It also gave me the perfect opportunity to wind the wife up. She IS a massive HP fan, but sadly she suffers from being a Switch gamer, and I couldn't resist "games still great, you not playing it?" jibes every now and then lol. Anyway, it was awful to see how you were treated, but you at least came out of it with something these bloody activists and members of the 'gaming' (I use that word loosely) press know nothing of - dignity. Personally I think that you have suffered a great injustice. As an intesex human, I can say from experience that the medical community has been VERY wrong on these issues for a long time. I quite agree, the puberty blockers stop my support as well. Intersex children are still mutilated at birth to fit their binary view and we are NOT okay with it. Australia only just passed a law to stop the practice in the last month. To manipulate puberty in children is just as wrong as what they do to us. We grow up, find out and it is not okay in the slightest and 99% of the time it is wholly unecessary.

I enjoyed the exploration elements and the characters. Can't say it got me that addicted to the Wizarding world but it was a fine introduction. I'm also happy the game did so well financially. Hopefully it sends a message to publishers and devs to ignore the woke crybabies. They have ZERO power in real life.

I wasn't super interested in the game because I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly impressed by it. There's some jank, and the game play loop and exploration isn't the greatest. But it is still pretty solid game that kept me interested until the end. The funniest part, is I'm one if the many that would have passed on the game had it not been for the outrage mob. Since playing the game I've re-watched the movies with my GF, and have been listening to the audio books. It's a nice nostalgia trip, and I've never noticed how impressive and unique the lore and world is.

As an old activist who was successful in our endeavor to legalize weed, this is not how it is done. If you want change, put in the work. As someone that's been playing video games for more than 30 years I never expected the day would come when I'd get so much entertainment from a game without having to purchase it or even play it. All the micro-transactions, different platforms, always online only mode, shit-a-service, endless dlc, political pandering, #CurrentThing inserts, "THE MESSAGE", broken games, hastily done ports, yearly recycled piles of manure, broken mechanics, low standards, mobile gaming, and other such crap have slowly but surely festered most of my enjoyment for video games to the point I have no will to brows through all the shit in the hopes of finding some rough diamond. But, if this is the new "standard" I'll gladly grab some popcorn and enjoy the shit-show from a distance.

To be fair, though Breakpoint is a terrific and immersive military sim, it didn't launch that way. The levelling and MT's and all the unrealistic nonsense was like capping someone at the knees with a wrench before a race. MGSV had it's issues too but it came out swinging from the onset (and is imo the best MGS gameplay wise by a country-mile) The loud social voices did play a part in hamstringing Breakpoint, but it was the publishers who were truly to blame. If it had released in the state it's in now with its realism modes, I doubt the backlash would've been anywhere near as critical.

8th game? Considering how wildly different the same game could be on multiple systems (as in Sorcerers/Philosophers stone on the GBA is different from the PS2 which is different to the PS1 which is also different to the Gamecube) not to mention that every film has at least one game adaptation so there's 7. I got a Quidditch game from my childhood somewhere around the house so that's 8. There's two lego harry potter games so that's 10. Finally you have this one that makes 11...but also the visual novel so 12...Why isn't there a Harry Potter chess game? No wait that's stupid...why isn't there a gwent style Wizard's Chess questline in this game?

Just finished Hogwarts yesterday. It's not a 10/10, but the plot about a religious magical cult trying to throttle scientific progress and attempting to show untermensch (goblins) their place by hiring a teenager mercenary and letting him basicly commit genocide (which they cover up) is entertaining as hell.

Kiloton you’re rig is still better than mine 😂 I tried playing it on the steam deck, it demanded lowest settings. I tried playing it on my laptop, it demanded lowest settings. I play elden ring, I can play that on medium settings with the laptop propped up to let the fans work. Yours still looks better than mine did 🤣
