I just know how it worked with my 1997 E36 328 Cabrio. The hard top cake with the car and was designed to fit perfectly in replacement of soft top. I’m not sure how more modern BMW do it although I’ve seen some that have an automatic factory hard top that folds into the trunk.... of course that cuts into the trunk space severely..

Do you have to use the mounting hardware when installing an e36 hardtop? Or can you just put the hardtop on?

Is all pre-installed. Just remove the protective covers on the deck of the rearward section, this exposes the mounting pin on the body. Sorry I didn’t include a detail shot of the rearward mount.

It came with the car when I bought it. I guess e bay? I love driving a convertible, but it is very loud at autobahn velocity. The top is elegant and provides a quiet ride. I sold this car last year as I’m moving to Hawaii. I now drive an 1989 E 30 which little by little I’ve restored to new condition

Schöner E36! Ich trau mich irgendwie nicht, es alleine so zu installieren :) Da können doch bestimmt Schäden entstehen, wenn man mal ein bisschen verrutscht, oder? Grüße

Aloha. Sicherer ist es auf jeden Fall, einen kompetenten Helfer zu haben. Es besteht die Gefahr, das Auto zu zerkratzen oder sich Rücken oder Nacken zu verletzen.
