You are a great instructor and patient. When I work on hard to get to stuff like this and my new parts don't fit like the old ones, I end up sounding like an angry Toll Booth Willy and start throwing things everywhere.

This is real experience aka tricks of the trade showing at 5:28 and a hint of what to do before at 2:30. This saves a load of work in removing the inlet manifold. I have to clean the ICV properly this time or buy a new one. This is the best BMW ICV video on KZbin.

Thank you! I greatly appreciate that! Unfortunately shortly after this video was made, it came to my attention the head gasket was blown and getting worse. Fortunately that will give me an opportunity to actually see all the lines under the intake I already replaced haha. Hoping to get back at this project in a couple weeks. Fingers crossed the head isn't cracked. Thanks again!

Thank you for the video very nice you explain everything very nice and what's nice is that I didn't know that the idl for this model can be exchanged for the other one the idea and for so many years I got imitasion and they didn't go very well. From tomorrow I will go I should buy the original gray one, which is also cheaper, and I will put it in the car, thank you.

just to let everyone know, he had to do that hose modification due to that being a non vanos ICV design only used in 1992. If you happen to have a 1992 325i/ Non Vanos motor, buy the version the supersedes this (P/N 13411744713), then buy hose (P/N 13411738186) and no modification will be needed. Alternatively buy the original ICV (P/N 13411433626), but note the original is more expensive due to its scarcity id say.

Yeah i have a 92 pre august and i can say for sure, a maf, and icv are stupid expensive in price for that car, i saw a MAF for $500+ on FPC euro and a bosch ICV for about $370, i might just buy ebay versions and try them out at this point, ive been dealing with fluctuating idle and i fixed all the vacuum leaks, valve cover gaskets, hoses, spark plugs, ignition coils, and fuel filter, and a new TPS, & im still having the same issue, i just got my new ICV today so after i replace it we shall see how the car idles and runs after, because it is a 5 speed i wanted to keep it but im just so tapped out of time and energy these days i might have to just sell it and move on once i solve this problem

The one time I wish I didn't have a supercharger is when I need to take the ICV off, my SC bracket is in the way.

Hi, I'm new on this topic. Can you please clear a bit, where does the hose go, i mean the one which goes the same direction as the arrow on the ICV to? Regards

Sorry for the late reply, but the hose that the arrow points towards, connects to the intake manifold, right behind the throttle body

I don't recall, but Neif Arreola answered many questions on ICVs and hoses to purchase in the comments below with part numbers. Vanos vs non vanos and reasoning. Hope that helps

What were the symptoms of the bad icv?

In my case it was idle issues. At times it wouldn't hold an idle and shut down, other times it acted like it had a vacuum leak

a long screwdriver and a hose clamp and you stick your hand through the top of the oil filter like he does on the video, if you can't reach it you can take out the intake manifold is not TOO terrible

would an ICV keep it from turning on? my e36 just cranks but won’t start and i’ve changed batteries , alternator, spark plugs, relays, fuses, checked the EWS, key antenna. i haven’t tried the fuel injectors, ICV, or coil pack yet.

It could although it would likely run bad. I would check all your vacuum lines. It would require a massive vacuum leak to not start. Check to see see you're getting fuel, my first issue was a bad pump. Check to see if you're getting spark. Try to start at main sources and work your way through. My E36 had a laundry list of problems starting at a bad fuel pump, then filter, replaced the injectors because they weren't too expensive and may as well. Start with what you're missing. Fuel or spark. If both are present than you're looking at either compression or something electrical. Hope this helps, kind of vague but without the car in front of me, hard to tell your issue
