I'm doing this now on my '99 540i/6. There are *TEN* E12s and two E10s. Thank you for showing it. I was going crazy looking for the other E12 at the top. Thanks for the video in general. I don't like that shifter clip. It helped to come in from the backside with a regular screwdriver to help lever it up.

the bellhousing bolts are e10, e12, and e14

Does the Exhaust have to come off as well on the I-6 engined ones like the 520?

We didn't get that model here in the US, but it is possible to do the trans with exhaust in, but it is more difficult.

Yo DBO i have a 02 530i m54 5speed Msport, i have to replace the throwout bearing and the detent shift pin springs in the trans but my exhaust was straight piped with the muffler/resonator delete before i bought it and was wondering how come there's no o2 sensor to be found on the exhaust(Part1 video) at all like your 540? Is there a difference between the two besides the technical update and the dual exhaust/catalytic converters? And also how come we both have 02 but mine didnt come with the TU when i have a newer model?? Is that because ones I6 and the other v8? Please help a brotha out🙏 Bless UP!

Yes, your 6-cylinder has the cats in the headers and subsequently both o2 sensors are in the header. 540i has cats in the headers and in the mid pipe so the secondary o2s are farther back.

Oh okay you right about the o2 sensors in the headers😂 I guess i got confused cause theyre the same year and you were saying older models wont have that but since mines a 6cylinder and you never specified anything about it that was really the only thing i could think of too. The 530i is similar. The exhaust and heat shields will be very similar. Then search how to pull an e46 manual trans. It will be the same except the upper e14 bolts are much more accessible on the e39. Good Luck

Thanks bro i just finally got to it today, it was similar except the transmission was E12 and the driveshaft was 18mm but i guess bigger engine calls for bigger bolts🤷‍♂️

its very similar to a e30-e34-e36-e39-e46 and prolly more? XD its all the same :p can put a e39 box on a e46 and vice versa.

You are correct and that the process is very similar, but these are v8 cars, the transmissions are not interchangeable with 6-cylinder cars. We will be doing an e36/e46 transmission video soon.

Don't follow this if you have an E39 M5 as this is not the E39 M5 Transmission.
