I appreciate these detailed videos on the E39 M5. I purchased and E39 wagon with a full M5 swap that needed some more work than I anticipated. Your videos have helped out tremendously with DIY maintenance and repairs. Thank you!

Why is the M5 E39 so beautiful under the bonnet? I'm not talking about the engine itself just the way the parts are designed. A masterpiece. 🥰

I had started to film that very DIY an E39 540i a few weeks ago, but unfortunately did not have the time to stick with it. I am responsible for all of the administrative and customer-facing duties at the shop (and much more), while my lead technician carries out many of the jobs. I do hope to provide this content in the future when time allows though!

Nice DIY video., thanks. I will do this on my M5 soon 😅 During last year (spontaneously and rushed decided trip) visit to Münich (50 jahre meet) the parts (hoses (not radiator…), brake lines and fuel pump etc.) were in the trunk in case of a break down as the time before the trip was limited 😅 (Round trip from Stockholm, Sweden to Munich and a visit to Hungary. 3 200 miles with the family)

Thanks for the informative DIY, high quality stuff as always. Just an aside, the radiator my 525i failed in exactly the same spot so at least that is not M5 specific hahaha. Keep it up man, great work! (Now I will get my ass back to the Autobahn before the hippies get rid of the unrestricted speed limit over there.)

I’m missing a pair of “beauty caps” for the Oetiker clamps at the expansion tank, can’t seem to find them anywhere.....

I've never been able to find those parts either, BMW seems to just omit a dozen or so parts per car from their parts schematics. I purchased some used ones from Adam Bajrak in Maryland years ago, he parts out wrecked M5s and have loads of parts in stock at any time.

Hey Ryan, my 525i has been having issues with idling for a while. Whenever I pull up to a stop sign or light with the clutch in, it starts revving up and down between about 500 and 1500 rpm hunting for an idle and eventually stalls, but simply revving the engine to 2500 to 3000 rpm typically resolves the issue. I’ve got into the habit of double-clutching to help the issue. We’ve replaced the intake boot but haven’t been able to resolve the issue. I’m suspecting that it’s a bad DISA valve, but I’m not sure. Any thoughts? It also seems to be worse in warmer weather, if that helps

I would check for a vacuum leak. You could also have an issue with the idle control valve. Any codes in the DME?

@@E39SourceI don’t recall there being any codes, but I don’t have a scan tool handy to check. It might also be worth noting that it seems to be lacking low end torque and it stalls very easily when moving at slow speeds like backing out of a parking space. I have to rev it up to avoid stalling.

@@thenerfherder9586 I'd definitely want to scan the DME for hints. But check out that vacuum system in the mean time. And check the rest of the intake duct work/manifold for leaks as well.
