Crazy but a good feeling leaving more vids out of your face are good we can still hear , and someone mentioned charts , all you sailors rely on iPad iPhone imagine if the sat lite goes off your lost and thousands more think charts , read Them for backup check back and confirm , someone out there is tryout to hack it , Ian like you I phone navonics twice round the globe , I would lay a chart and every two days do a long/ lat, those garman kits are with in half a mile at worst , so carry on you take us back with your adventures
@Curiosity-NZ4 жыл бұрын
All of us sailors do not rely on Ipads and Iphones. I have and always will use the good old paper charts and navigation instruments. A majority of sailing people are the same. My navigation instrument suite consists of : sextant, quadrant, astrolabe, backstaff and numerous other ancient instruments. I have circumnavigated twice with these and I am presently planning a 4 year plus circumnavigation.
@Curiosity-NZ4 жыл бұрын
@Sri Yantra I am referring to my use of very early navigation instruments that any navigator from the 1500's to the 1800's would have been familiar with. The sextant is still used today.

get some paper charts . its not good seamanship to go to sea without all the navigation tools you can. yes it may sound old fashioned to mention charts but, they will get you thru one of those days when everything is out the window. the objective is to go from A to B, safe and enjoying the passage. have a nice trip!

The way to be comfortable on your bigger boat is to get out on it as often as you can . Every day if you can. No engine, just try to sail everywhere, even to your mooring. I only put my engine on in an emergency or at the last second. Keep sailing till the boat shrinks and all its ways and systems are easy. This is the same with any fear , keep going there, rest in it , then it passes and you find freedom.
@oscardakota28764 жыл бұрын

Hello Holly, this is John again. Well things are really crazy here on the Mainland. I'm from Michigan and we are on lockdown and I got let go from work because I'm old and I can't keep up with the younger ones. Nothing I can do because I didn't have my 90 days in before the covid 19 blessed us. But anyways I decided to move to Florida to get closer to sailboats. Now that I'm in the southern part of Tennessee the govener decided to lift the lockdown status. But that's okay because I'm not getting any younger and I really want a sailboat. But I just want to let you know that I still think your crazy for doing what you are doing but I still love your commitment. You remind me of me. And I hope one day I will get to meet you and party with you. I hope you don't give a shit about partieing with a old man. So keep the wind in your sails and I wish you the best!

How do you buy a sailboat, I mean how do you get this license to sail, also, your videos are the best because you show Independence and you don't make it dramatic by adding music and drone shots so thank you
@CaptKwame4 жыл бұрын
You don’t need license. A little money a lot of desire and learn, learn, learn and learn. Don’t buy into the notion that you have to have the latest and the greatest in a boat. Go with a strong well found sound small boat. Don’t get bogged down with acquiring the latest that you see advertised in the magazines. Skills learnt are more value then gimmicks. the Pardeys said it best, go small, go now.
