The old center bearing failed prematurely because it was not preloaded before tightening the bolts. Did you preload your center support bearing before tightening the 13mm bolts? Push the center bearing 1/4 inch forward then torque down the bolts. It will not last if you don't do this.

Great video. It will soon be time for me to do the centre hanger bearing on my 1990 Volvo 240. I plan to do the U joints at the same time, as nothing has been done on the driveshaft and the 30 year old parts have nearly 400,000 miles on them

Acceleration beforehand didn't really happen because I have too much mechanical sympathy to hear the driveshaft whip around and stay in the go-pedal. Acceleration now is fantastic. Smooth, pulls good, nasty 4k RPM torque dip that seems to be a universal ZHP thing. There is a valve in the intake called the DISA flap that I'll remove and inspect in a future video because it can have a major effect on the severity of the torque dip.

Oem bmw E46 wheels are indeed centred by the close fit between the flange on the disc and the hole in the center of the wheel. Your aftermarket wheels don't have the right hole and need a ring to fill the gap. Or get better wheels....

The wheels might be for an E39 5 series, BMW in their infinite wisdom decided to increase the wheel center bore from 72.6 to 74.1 mm. AFAIK, the E39 is the only BMW with this hub diameter. The ET is way different (40+ on the E46 and 20ish on the E39) but those wheels having larger diameter bores seems to fit my hypothesis.

They're TSW Bathurst wheels, they're meant to fit lots of different cars so they just have large bores for that reason.

I've never seen someone so happy for finding a drive shaft underneath a car. Also, those jack stands look kinda flimsy and you're tugging a lot of stuff... Be careful!

Would exhaust heat cause the driveshaft bearing to fail sooner if it's a low quality replacement?

Potentially, but that heat shield between the exhaust and driveshaft is pretty substantial.
