Forty-second track day. First time taking the E46 to Laguna Seca.
Weather anxiety was eating me away leading up to this weekend.
I kinda hated the idea that my third time at Laguna would again be a full wet track day…
It indeed rained for every single session. Just a matter of how much for each.
This was technically my third full-on raining track day. So I was ok with it.
The E46 is a little more friendly/fun to drive in the rain than the F80 tho.
After my first session I was kinda digging the wet lapping. Just the right amount of power to have safe/fun drifts every now and then.
The F80 just has so much power and weight, it is harder to keep in check.
This was a 90db day and my car blew sound in session two. Going up turn 5 in 3rd at 8k rpm was worth 92.5db. Ha.
I ended up taking turn 5 in 4th gear and tracking left the entire rest of the day to stay away from the sound booth. Which worked, albeit slow.
After blowing sound again I would have been sent home!
I am on my yearly vacation and have traveled far. I didn’t want to be kicked out. So losing a good chunk of pace here.
Session 5 was the closest to dry it got on Saturday. Still several streams on track preventing any real laps.
My best time for Saturday was a 1.43.96. Decent but nowhere close to what I know can be done.
I would like to beat my F80s pre-repave time. 1.41.81. Ended up doing a 1.43.07 PB on Sunday.
Hung out with TC Kline and his group for a little again this year.
Always fun to chat with someone that makes the parts you use!
There were at least 3 fairly big off/crashes Saturday. Wet days are no joke and I hope all of them had insurance…
Was standing 100ft, right next to the wall when a silver e46 m3 sadly binned it and totaled his car. Rip….
Saw more carnage here than a Sonoma event. lol.
