I wrote a novel that is a sweeping epic and full of romance, action, and great detail and dialogue. It follows all the rules of what makes a good fiction book. There are a sea of self publishing companies. You pay to print your book, and it is now in a sea of other books. Many of them are just not well written. People don't seem to have any ability to objectively analyze whether their book is good or not. But a good story, well crafted, may not be marketable! That's hard to swallow. I'm searching for a traditional publisher, querying to literary agents. This is now a female dominated industry. One of the photos of a publishing company is of no less than fifty women and not a single male face in the photo! Not really inclusive anymore. I simply don't want to have a book that is an "also printed" stack of pages. Publishing and sales is harder than writing. Much, much harder.
