Thanks for useful vid! Astounding the degree to which I have become needing YT for such info to maintain my 2011 M3. :D Having just dumped manual trans oil, the filter is essentially indestructible stainless steel mesh that can be easily cleaned, *absolutely NOT NECESSARY TO replace filter EVER* Apparently the filter is only intended to capture large metallic bits, thankfully mine was clean but unfortunately I wasted money on a new one. Pull it, check it and clean if necessary and reinstall old one.

You missed cycling the gearbox oil pump to do a complete fluid change on the trans

Great Video! Where did you get a service manual? I can't find one. I need the torque specs for other maintenance items.
@TrulyMotors7 жыл бұрын
Hi Bill, We were able to find all the torque specs and such just by doing a little research on the web. That said, we were only changing fluids so just some torque specs we found on the internet were good enough for us. If we were doing any engine work or something more in depth, I would definitely get official torque specs from BMW or invest in a Bentley Service Manual. Unfortunately, As far as I know there is no specific Bentley Manual for the e90/e92 M3. If your local BMW dealership is friendly they might give you the information you're looking for. Glad you liked the video! -John

I used Mobile 1 75W-140 LS with no additional friction modifiers and my diff behaves very badly now in my E92 M3.... I'm going to dump it again and use a different brand.
@TrulyMotors6 жыл бұрын
Interesting and good to know. Personally I have never had an issue with Mobil 1 but definitely worth trying another brand in your case.

@@TrulyMotors I want to correct for the record--after dumping oil again and filling with Royal Purple and getting similar results apparently Mobile 1 was NOT the problem, I may need to rebuild diff.
@TrulyMotors6 жыл бұрын
@@Mrbfgray Sorry to hear that, but thanks for the update!
@Mrbfgray6 жыл бұрын
@@TrulyMotors The new oil (Royal Purple) MAY have solved the problem after some miles, it had been routinely partially engaging at very low speed tight turns like in a parking lot, not something you want. So now I'm just not sure but it no longer seems to do that. I mainly save the car for fair weather weekends and haven't put many miles on it since new oil....been a lot of rain in NorCali....did take it out for some fun in the wet and to test diff, put about 50 miles on it. I didn't get anymore of that previous problem Sunday after kicking the tail out numerous times in first two gears then doing tight figure-8's in an empty parking lot .

@@TrulyMotors Now I'm going to re-dump the trans cuz I put Mobile 1 in it also and lost confidence in it, and the diff again as the previous Mobile 1 came out very dirty after only a few hundred miles!!...I want flush out the clutch dirt and see what the R.P. looks like. Expensive oil is dirt cheap compared to machinery and labor. (why do I love to change oils, lol) NO offense to YOU!! You weren't endorsing a brand just showing what you did. Maybe it's a fluke but that oil didn't work for me (pending further Update). NO problems with the trans with M1 oil but I don't trust it after diff experience. (((I'm just struggling to figure it all out like most everyone else)))

how many quarts i need? fluid transmission manual bmw 335i 2007

Is the process a lot different for a DTC. My local independent BMW shop wants to charge me $800 to do trans fluild change.
@TrulyMotors7 жыл бұрын
Personally, I haven't done a fluid change on a DCT. But it shouldn't be much different. At $800, the shop is definitely overcharging you. There are some things that make it slightly challenging, like the transmission has to be the right temperature before you drain it. If I wasn't going to do it myself, I wouldn't pay more than $200 to have it done by someone else. Also, sorry for the late reply, KZbin likes to flood my notifications with video recommendations that drown out the important notifications about people commenting on my videos.

what's the torque on the differential plugs, you left it out ?
@TrulyMotors7 жыл бұрын
You don't have to worry about the torque specs on the diff plugs. It would be very hard to tighten the plugs too tight by hand. Just snugging the plugs with a wrench by hand will do the trick. The reason the transmission has torque specs for the plugs is because they're aluminum plugs going into an aluminum case. Therefore, they are much more delicate and you could easily strip out the threads or snap off the top of the plug if you make it too tight. Hope this helped!
@Mrbfgray6 жыл бұрын
Feel it out, get second hand against the socket head if possible to counter 'bending' the wrench--pure torque, as long as plug will stay and not leak, and NOT be too hard to get out again, it's good to go...sung and a little more...if it won't quite back out on it's own then it's perfect. Pay attention to how much force it took to remove it too, that's usually MORE than enough. (I like numbers too but this isn't rod bearing bolts) I never lost a plug nor stripped one in decades. Just change the damn oil already, lol.

Don’t use this Mobil 1 fluid in M3 differential. It would cause noise. The official BMW equivalent fluid from Castrol is Castrol SAF-XJ 75w140. it comes with FM, which is the correct formula.
