As an old Gen X-er who has played ALL the mainline Sims games and a few of the spin offs, EA is stupid. Millennials SHOULD be there target demographic. The general video game audience is getting older, more people continue the video game hobby into adulthood then ever, and Millennials are at that sweet spot where they have adult jobs and ADULT income. Millenials will likely still be playing games they like for the next 15-20 years. Meaning if they like something, they can just buy it. No asking someone else to buy it for them. EA is very short sighted.

Its ridiculous to abandon the gamers who played it since the start just to get kids. Im really confused with the idea that gen z likes what they’re going for, mobile games and sims are separate and different. Majority of apps are ridiculously clunky and really only genshin works and its not even the same way that they’re suggesting since they can get free stuff anyways as they play and eventually get what they want. This is honestly so funny because thinking about Gen Alpha and below aging up to the ''spend money consistantly" era and expecting that the sims on your mobile is gonna be what grabs their attention? The only reason the Sims has continued to be so popular is because it is iconic enough that people question similar games that look too different, but big enough to have everything trademarked the house down boots. The sims is a hard game to make and maintain, sure. But it's not something that has been out of other game company's reaches, they just haven't had the ability or the willingness to risk it. Which is why we end up with indie games that don't often pan out. Honestly, let them burn their bridges. Hopefuly Eaxis will lose so much money that someone will buy the copyright and create "the sims 4, but it works" because honestly, that could sustain them for a long ass time. Thank you for coming to my disjointed rant. I have a lot of thoughts and too much ADHD to compile them efficiently lmao

Oh I FEEL YOU about that rant, I write comments like that all the time! 😂 They'd never give up the Sims franchise of course, but I agree with the fist two paragraphs, actually you make a good point. Those who feel a connection to the very unique iconography The Sims have, who are they? THE OLDIES. THE VETERANS. The iconography is the thing they have that sets them apart from any other lifesim that can crop up, because the Sims iconography is so unique and charming... or it used to be, anyway. Those of us who lived through the peak eras, we're the ones who are weakest to that unique charm, the lore, everything that's uniquely The Sims. So you'd think they'd wanna hold on to us more. But I also know that pleasing us is harder, because we are old enough to remember very well what used to be the standard for the series... The new players they can con easier if they entered the franchise at Sims 4. They don't have a reference to understand how we're being ripped off, selling us one 5th of an expansion 40 USD at a time.

I'm Gen-Z but I agree that this change is unwelcome and depressing. I didn't really get introduced to the Sims franchise until I found out about #4 (though I had heard of #2 before then). A few months ago I got the Sims 2 running on a modern PC and I think it's so much more interesting since things actually happen without the player being the only one to drive the story. The Sims 2 is so much more spontaneous, random, exciting; the Sims 4 is also fun but you have to decide exactly what should happen. You're the narrator in the Sims 4, but in the Sims 2 you actually get to PLAY the game.

EA tried the mobile game nonsense back in 2009 and we hated it because it was cashgrabby garbage with key features of lifesimulation being locked behind a paywall. They are trying to gaslight us. Ironically the "popular thing of the future" they are trying has been tried long ago and it sucked because it's EA. The mobile and online life simulation gaming genres are not new (they've been around when millenials were teens) EA just sucks at creating a model for it that people want to play because they paywall literally EVERYTHING, including key game features, instead of the shopping mall model where you go to an online store separate from the rest of the game. Like in an instanced zone/building or on a separate page and the it bombs you with optional, fashionable, colorful cosmetics that signal your wealth to other players. I'm not saying getting people addicted to microtransactions is good but if I was a corporate leech like EA I would do it way differently than they did. Basically use the Riot model, free base game, gazillion paid cosmetics that only change looks. However, that is a matter of the free mobile sims games and the mainline sims is a paid PC game and people like it that way. I feel like it's the heads of EA that are old, like gen X old! IF they really think we oppose online gameplay and mobile games because it's too new then they are out of touch. I suspect they are just greedy and trying to insult us for not taking the hook in corporate speech. They try this every time: EA 2009: Online gameplay, multiplayer and mobile games? Players: NO! Single player, offline! EA 2014-2018: Online gameplay, multiplayer and mobile games? Players: NO! Single player, offline! EA 2024: Online gameplay, multiplayer and mobile games? Players: NO! Single player, offline, fix the bugs! EA 2024: Fine, y'all are shrivelled up, old hags anyway! We gonna do it regardless like the last 2 times it flopped and it will be great, you'll see!

There are still valid alternatives for us oldies who used to spend their money on real AAA games. Larian with BG3 and Microsoft with AOE4 come to mind. Not limited to the Sims. Which is (was) one of the games that lasted the longest and that I spent the most cash on expansions. Up to 3, which I still enjoy (and works fine on a decent PC). THIS!! I know many people are really into the trailer for the new EP but after watching it I was like... this is feeling a bit too real (and a bit too late btw, being the 10000th EP)

Same, it’s actually triggering my most terrible memories… No, I don’t want realistic death in Sims games. They love making mountains out of molehills like changing the name of the “insane” trait and not even adding the possibility to find physical traits unattractive. …And now they suddenly make the heaviest topic more realistic? Wtf…😭💔

Oh I’m here 🙋🏻♀️and i definitely agree with your video. I’m still playing the sims 3 because I couldn’t figure out how to play the sims 2 lol graphics are important but play game is more important to me. So while I don’t mind the sims 4 clear art style I missed the game play!! Why do I need to download a ton of mods to make a game (I spent a ton of money on after buying all the DLC) fun?!

Yes yes yes to this entire video! And for EA, my 9 y/o Alpha gen daughter almost cried because there will never be a Sims 5. She plays mobile games but she loves this play style too. My gen Z brother is an avid TS3 player. So EA can really save all that board room talk for someone else. We’re not dumb. Its obvious that they want to jump ship and make brain dead games

My mom played Sims 2 more than I did when it came out, and she was in her 40s... so no. You're not too old for Sims, the developers just don't understand their audience.

I been playing The Sims since the Sims 1 when I in my late teen and I still been playing the Sims for 22 years. And I can hardly wait for INZOI and Paralives. I have already thought about moving back to the Sims 3 because The Sims 4 game keep crashing and I'm just fed up with it. And I didn't bother buying the Life and Death expansion; because the game that keep crashing and what the point throwing more money at the game that just a big mess from the very start.

Ah, it’s good to see people my age that miss the olden days when this game was for “mature” audiences only. By that I mean, not all these silly quests and wild DLC in kits that should have been in game packs or part of expansions. Sure, I occasionally bought something off the Sims 3 store, but that was when it was an option rather than a sales pitch the second you send the kids off to school. The DLC in the Sims three was where it belonged out of the gameplay section. And I’m about done with quests because, this isn’t in life, who gets sent on quests for a new hairstyle or a recolored item you already have. I am 52 and I am waiting for Paralives and InZOI. The problem with EA is the fact that they forget that children have a very short attention span. It will be bored of their crap faster than us old folks. 😂

So, I'm from not the OG Sims, but the OG video games generation. I'm 58 years old and have followed the Sims from console games like The Urbz to ALL the Sims PC games. Oh! And MySims! I think it's stupid to crap on your loyal fan base. I am NOT buying the mobile games!

I'm 50 and own every pack, kit, etc. Who do they think are buying all of these packs? Who do they think are throwing down $40 for their upcoming expansion? The Sims 4 base game is free (now) but if you want more, it's not a cheap game to play.

43 year old Simmer here. It sucks to see my favorite game franchise turn into what it has. I'll stick with Sims 2/3 and try out Inzoi when it comes out.

Amen to all you said. Damn, it's making me really sad sometimes, the thought of how much they keep to screw up such a phenomenon of a game. Ofc that's how the world works, money is on top of everything so what else to expect then EA taking this perticular direction. I guess I'll have to stick to what we got to this point. InZoi or Paralives are just not it for me for now, especially inZoi with those too realistic graphics, Paralives might actually get a chance with me. I got this thought that this new EP might be death to the franchise as well 🙃 but no reincarnations for us?

I'm Gen Z and I grew up with The Sims 2 and 3. It's honestly garbage how EA treats its players and how people praise The Sims 4 as such a good game when it has so many flaws. The Sims 4 without mods and around 20 packs feels... not even baked, for me at least. (Plus the amount of packs it has is insane.)

I started into Sims with sims freeplay and one year after the release of sims 4 i bought it. And it was my first pc game ever. And still i only have sims as pc games. And i spend a lot of money. I gave up sims freeplay realy fast and i never paid money on mobile games so i don't know why they plan to do a third mobile game. And i think our age about from 18 to 30 should be their focus because we earn our own money and spend it more likely then kids who don't have money.

I would not mind a properly designed mobile game that allows me to play the game as much as I want to with out the time limit they imposed on doing things without paying to do them now. I attempted to play both sims mobile and sims freeplay. When they just took so long to do the next step of what they were wanting you to do, that was it. Uninstall. Its not just their games it's all of them on the free to play but micro transaction. For example I tried one of the Hogwarts gamges for mobile and got the samething. If i want to spend 6-7 hours on a good game after working hard all week then the game should support how we want to play it. Setting up like these mobile style is a terrible idea. I am not opposed to paying for a game. Even paying for a full mobile game as long as it does not have these limits in gameplay.

8:06 Oooh! Oooh! 🙋♀️ Yep, I’m old enough to have been obsessed with the very first Sims game when it first came out back in 2000. I don’t even want to know how many hours I sunk into that game… but then Sims 2 came along (which I sank even more hours into), and nothing has ever come close to the experience that game provided. And I never even owned more than two of the expansion packs! The base game alone was THAT good.

As a millennial... and very close to 40... I'm just going to say same hate-on-millennials crap, different decade. They just find different ways to "dislike" millennials. First, it was because we were living with our parents, not getting jobs, eating avocado toast, and killing whatever industry of the week because we couldn't afford splurging on things like houses or nice cars and somehow that was our fault. Now it's because we're "old" when we're finally getting in charge of things. Kate looks like one of those girls who were in the cheerleading mean girl squad and is completely out of touch with anything outside of yuppie mainstream corpo-life, let alone pop culture.

@Barzarel14 күн бұрын
Well I guess they wont mind those "old simmers" leaving for games like Inzoi or paralives then when those comes out then. Also aren't they a little too old many of them to work at Maxis then, because if "older" persons opinion about the game doesn't matter forward target audience, how will they really be in touch with that target audience themselves as developers, shouldn't someone younger be making games instead then? Also want to ask them if they happen to watch comment field, if the sims 4 is targeted for Gen Z and Gen Alpha, why do we keep getting so much boomer and dad humor. I can't possibly see that I would be able to find many in that age group that would find that funny and I work with gen Z, working closely with many gen Z on regular basis. So aren't the developers kinda out of touch with their audience and should make way for developers that understand their audiences then? Less this is all just deflection on their part and not really true.
