feels like instead of tackling the main issue they are walking all around it and focusing on everything else. ..the whole "going into new direction with 10 year old game" seems nothing but making "hype". that ai this is such a cheap way to get shareholders excited...thing is EA especially but also most of dev companies are legaly obligated to bring as much money to shareholders as they can and so it can never be product of love anymore. those times are gone. unless you have company without shareholders, that isn't publicly traded forget about it. also those oldd leadership managers ...they don't wanna take risks, they just wanna get free money and not really do any meaningful work. they just throw new words to make it look like they are doing something new meaningful while there is nothing truly new, just slightly refreshed pipeline of new dlc's and whatnot.

I find it hilarious that EA is saying that they're going to keep Sims 4 running so players don't have to "start over again" or whatever, but then they'll quite happily re-release the same football game every year with minor changes and a different roster for full price + microtransactions... Really just boils down to minimizing the amount of work and maximising the profits.

they're panicking with all the new competitors releasing soon (inzoi and paralives). EA doesn't have any faith in Sims as a franchise because they know people are asking too much for a new base game, so they chose to milk TS4 until people finally vote with their money (there are too many sheep in the community and EA like that)

I just wish EA would re-release The Sims 3 (remastered if you will) and made it so it’s 64 bit instead of 32. TS3 was so ambitious for its time, but now technology has caught up to the demand of that game. It would be amazing if we could play a better optimized version

I've steered clear of Sims 4 for awhile till I heard it was free, but the amount of basic content is just laughable. TBH I wonder if that's why they're hesitant to move onto a new game. A lot of live service games can comfortably coast on success because they're in a space of large scale multiplayer games and unless you have a freak stroke of luck like Fortnite putting out a free Battle Royale mode to compete with PUBG the game will struggle and die off. The difference here and with SimCity is that Sims has been traditionally a singleplayer game, something that a competitor can much more easily provide. SimCity did have an online social aspect to it but it wasn't critical to the SimCity experience so City Skylines ended up eating its lunch. So I assume EA has opted to just keep the current gravy train rolling because they know it's successful.

Yes 100%. And if they care so much about not making players start from ground zero, maybe they consider making basic things like seasons and family gameplay apart of the base game instead of parsing out every single thing for profit. Tbf it’s a such a load of bs that they’re doing this out of the players interest and not their own corporate greed
@TheVonMatrices
@TheVonMatrices 2 ай бұрын
I do agree that it is a silly excuse because countless F2P games have developed their business models on having "seasons," which have regular game resets. However, I do think that game companies force themselves into a corner when they continue making expansions to an old game rather than developing a new one. They have the conundrum that they know the game is old and want to develop something completely new, but if they were to make a sequel, it would not have all the features of all the predecessor's expansions at launch, and that would result in negative reviews and sales problems. This happened to Cities:Skylines 2, and I think that launch had a chilling effect on sequels to games that have lots of expansions.

Plus long loading screens, really small maps with not many lots, very undynamic Sim drama, no seamless lot travel, stuff like that, which all lead me to hope it was the *shortest* active Sims game and then a good Sims 5. No - the opposite happened. This news feels like if the ultimate version of Windows was the touchscreen obsessed phase of Windows 8. The problem with subscription model is the fact that you don't have the sunken cost fallacy at play. It is very easy to stop the subscription once a new shiny game comes out that fills the niche. On the other hand if you paid $1000+ for the game then you will play it to justify the amount of the money you have already spent on it.

OH, but that's the thing, Fallout RUNS OUT OF THE BOX, I installed 1 on Win11 laptop, perfect, only needs fan patch for widescreen support and higher resolutions but it's perfectly playable without it. Soooooo re-releasing Fallouts is probably the cheapest possible ports because of how well they work without ANY updates. Other games are not so lucky, you can run directx patch for Wine3D for Infinity Engine games but Enhanced Editions took way more effort (and added a lot too). I don't think they wanted to do this. Similar to the way they didn't want to release TS4 the way they did. I think they INTENDED to milk TS4 for many more years, got caught with their pants down with tons of competitors. At that point they're barely into production against these games dropping in 2025. So do they A, release something in 2028(or beyond) as they should, after watching their position dwindle, or, should they reuse assets, code, etc, to make a new project, then claim the asset re-usage is "better for the players because they get to keep their stuff" and try to sell that. If they can do this, and launch by 2025, they likely think they won't lose their position. This is clearly some EA exec trying to twist an L (taking a loss on position), and trying to screw players over (asset re-usage) as a W (players will get to keep their stuff and their saves!). What's ironic is that I highly suspect they won't release anything worth playing by 2025. Despite the hate, I genuinely used to think TS5 would kill any competitor, but I guess EA's incompetence literally is insurmountable.

I don't think they care about splitting the fan base at all. The simple cost/benefit analysis is that it doesn't make sense (in their purely capitalist pilled brains) for them to spend resources expanding the scope of the gameplay, when those same devs could be churning out infinite content packs that are basically pure profit. If anything, I see them signaling that they are looking at moving more towards the Roblox model, where players make content that they can sell to other players. I'm assuming they're thinking that they can justify any hit caused by potential gap in quality by lowered overhead, but this is all speculation. Also, it's worth noting that EA is the company that squirts out a new, barely changed Madden/FIFA every year. I don't think there's anyone at EA in a position to approve new projects that cares about anything other than what's most profitable

What they don’t - or shouldn’t - want is players who are both unhappy and unsatisfied, because those players are only staying until something better comes along. The “keep up unhappy, but make new stuff look better than it is so that they keep buying and chasing that promise of happiness” model completely destroys brand loyalty. I'd love there to be a remastered version of The Sims 3, perhaps optimised for my knackered old Asus laptop. Just to play it for old times sake, as it was my first PC Sims game. There seemed to be a lot more heart put into The Sims 3, I suppose Maxis were still involved at that point or people on the programming team that were fans of the original games. The DLCs/expansions in that game felt like optional improvements to the game, it was fun without them. Whereas with The Sims 4, you kind of need DLC to really immerse yourself in the game, what also annoys me about it is how buggy and laggy it is. I've had Sims getting stuck on each other in the same room and also, you have to babysit an adult Sim in the game and make sure that they don't blow up like a volcano over trivial things, keeping them emotionally regulated when their moods get changed at the drop of a hat.

Also my 2 cents as a software engineer. The age of the engine isn't the issue. As long as you've got people that understand how the engine works in its current state, you can expand upon it in ways that it was never originally designed for, to a point. The main issue that I'm getting from every new patch, is that they do not have adequate testing practices in place. Whether we're talking automated unit testing, integration testing etc, or even the QA team as a whole. I do not trust a team to rewrite or modify core components of the engine when they have proven time and time again they're unable to deliver basic content updates without breaking existing functionality. Edit: changed "an issue" to "the issue". Old software does eventually need to be replaced!

I am also a software engineer. The age of a platform is absolutely an issue lol, not only do new underlying technologies with more and better features become available over time, but compatibility with other integrated systems -- in the case of games, operating systems and hardware support are a huge one -- becomes an increasing issue the older a platform is. Not planning to rebuild, replace, migrate, is planning to have future infrastructure issues.

@@DeinonychusCowboy but not in this case, it's a 10+ year old 64 bit engine. The main limitations are its design roots in the MMO space. Its age of this codebase isn't the issue. I say this as someone who works daily on a 30+ year old C++ codebase. The limitations we've encountered are predominantly due to previous poor design decisions, which can, and have been fixed with extreme willpower and skill. Given modern abstraction layers (which we unfortunately don't have the privilege of working with) compatibility for this engine should be trivial. Blaming the age of the engine for the issues with the Sims 4 is a cop out. If there really are major issues that cannot be fixed without a complete rewrite (and that could be the case given the state of the game) then that is almost entirely related to poor design decisions within the core of the engine, not the age of the game.

I have every expansion, stuff and kit there is and, honestly, as of last week I just completely gave up, uninstalled the game (and the +50GB of mods I had) and went back to The Sims 3. And, for the first time in like 7 years, I am having the time of my life playing in Roaring Heights. Wasn't until now I noticed I spent most of my time in The Sims 4 building instead of live mode anymore because THERE IS NO exciting gameplay to experience. Now that I'm back on Sims 3 I am noticing all those details you mentioned about Sims 2 & 3 and MADE the game what we loved instead of the souless piece of garbabe the Sims 4 is becoming.

I rejected playing TS4 until 2022 because I hated the cartoony statue style, stupid walkstyles, limited neighborhood and content, but I eventually fell into it just because of the incredible creations I'd seen the modding community do in 8 years. A colossal game changer for me was TwistedMexi's T.O.O.L., which allows you to move objects almost anywhere, helping you use of the metric TON of unused space in the world beyond the few lots we're given. He's absolutely doing God's work to make it feel like a modicum of what The Sims 3 used to be. Without modders like him creating new experiences, along with Lumpinou, and Turbodriver, and modders like Deaderpool, Weerbesu and LittleMsSam creating mods allowing us to circumvent/fix all of the broken parts, I would NOT keep playing this game. Project Rene is The Sims Online 2. It is completely designed around online play. No build mode - just a decorating mode. It will be multi-platform as basic as possible with excessive amounts of "in your face" microtransactions. I'll try to see the positive here: no more Sims to destroy and ruin by EA. It was once possible to own a copy of a Sims game with all DLCs. It is not impossible to do that without being extremely rich. Each game was worse in that regard, now with DLC with sub-DLC. Imagine what a Sims 6 would be like. Thousands of DLCs. DLCs for the DLCs for the DLCs for the DLCs. Microtransactions all over the place. Pay to win multiplayer. I don't want to see the brand go into further destruction. Sometimes it's better for a brand to simply die.

Not quite the same situation unfortunately. Simcity has had numerous challengers and diverging competitors for its core audience for a long time, exacerbated by a 10 year holdout from SC4 to 2013. Fans patience were already at a breaking point The Sims is a wholly unique institution in the gaming landscape, so getting anyone adjusted off from that, however diminishing and poor the current offering seems, will be a very hard sell. Nothing can beat The Sims 2, NOTHING. Not even Paralives or Inzoi. My reasoning: TS2 is a game beyond its time. The animations, the graphics, it was innovative and doing something completely new. This game came out 20 years ago and there are still modern life sim games (cough cough TS4) that have been unable to surpass its greatness. For its time it’s astounding how amazing of a game it is, and it still holds up today, still managed to maintain its relevance. It truly opened the door to the genre of life simulators.

My husband and I have watched your channel together for over a decade at this point. Since 2012 I think? I've been playing Sims 2 since it was released with a ridiculous amount of mods and CC and honestly? I don't regret deciding, quite decisively, I wasn't interested in Sims 4. Your videos had a big hand in that because you, like me, have played all the iterations and was HONEST. Thank you for your content good sir, we still enjoy it :)

Unfortunately a lot of people online have been stating the flawed logic of 'well I've spent so much money on the sims 4, so I'm happy they aren't moving on!' As if their games will be shut down the second a new game releases. If everyone had that mindset, then nothing would ever progress.

Ten years ago when the Sims 4 came out, I remember deciding to wait until the graphics were more Sims 3 than Sims 2, they had the customization options of Sims 3, and they had the same level of content that was in base Sims 3. I'm still waiting on all but that last one, and it still has -- in my point of view -- less content than Sims 3 does, primarily because of the engine downgrade making it much harder to accomplish interesting, innovative tasks. I guess I'll be waiting ... forever, now.

The fact that sims can die from laughter in Sims 4 is insane to me. On the other hand, while playing Sims 2, I once had a guy die of fright when a ghost popped out of the sink to scare him. Considering the sim had ignored the perfectly good bathroom to take a sponge bath in the kitchen, and died buck naked in the middle of this ridiculous action, it was pretty funny to witness.

@@sunshowers3838 Vampires love wandering outside and burning. And it doesn't help that in Sims 2, they were extremely fragile during the day. Vampires in Sims 2 are so punishing, I keep experimenting for mods to try to make them more manageable. I like the idea of playing a vampire sim, but the reality is sometimes a pain in the butt.

The year is 3014. Intergalactic space travel is now possible. Earth was destroyed a few centuries ago. Peace for all of humanity was official with treaties across the galaxy outlawing war. Humanity now live with advanced technology increasing lifespans by 250 years. And EA announce a 6000th expansion pack for the Sims 4. Thankfully, they also announced a new game in the series at last: The Sims 4 Remastered EDIT: I forgot the final punchline; main feature of the remaster: 2024 graphics, and the need to purchase all 6000 expansions again to get all the content. Roadmap until 3055

This is exactly what happened with Sim City: it was a beloved franchise with years of success, only to be killed by a dumbed down and limited version that focused on online experience. Citites Skylines took the reins from EA in the city builder genre. I think Paralives or InZOI will likley do the same here over the course of the next few years. Sim City died faster because Cities Skylines became a viable alternative very early on after it was released. We are just now, after 10 years, starting to see viable competitors emerge and I think this will make the Sims go the way of Sim City.

Most won't remember at the launch of The Sims 4, these was a lot of backlash as it was more limited than the The Sims 3. In the Sims 3 you could jog around your entire *town*, then The Sims 4 came around and suddenly you couldn't go anywhere without hitting a loading screen. The Sims 4 was already far behind the technological curve when it launched TEN YEARS AGO because they wanted it to run on the most basic machine anyone would have in 2014.
