Idk it’s boring now, I used to have loads of fun with bf4 but everyone’s a sweaty try hard these days and all I want is to mess around and have fun but nope everyone’s got to use the same guns and equipment, attachment max (with thermal scope,flash hidder and the spotter), so every match is just aek’s and drone spam or you run for like 20 miles just to constantly get raped by the viper. I’ve been playing it on and off for its whole 10 year life span and idk the magic it once had has kind of gone. I no longer play like I used to either but that might be bec I’m burnt out from gaming as a whole and find enjoyment from other things now like motorbikes. the ea app is trash and crashes/ loses connection all the time.

For BF3 another ticking clock working against it is Marketplace on 360. That's going to be shut down in July 2024. Meaning that even if EA would keep the servers for BF3 going on their end, people who rent servers wouldn't be able to even upkeep them since the functionality of purchasing extensions would no longer work.

You are making a reasonable argument here, at some point it is valid for devs to shut down the servers. However, the root of the issue is that players are not *able to open their own servers anymore*, unlike in the pre ~2010 era. Luckily Venice Unleashed and Project Rome exist, but devs should just release the dedicated server files, especially when official servers are shut off.

I think it is really sad that on european PC servers for bf3 and 4, they are ruined by corrupt trash admins on the most popular servers that ban anyone calling out their boyfriends who cheat no matter how many people does it. The difference between their click and others gameplay is really visible when they lock onto you regardless of what you do or stand + use every exploit possible with 0 enforcement of rules.

My best Battlefield memory is from BF3 on PS3. Parachuting in on cargo and I RPG'd a helicopter out of the air as it was about to land on a building and drop off a bunch of guys. It came down on the very edge and the flaming wreckage crashed to the ground as the kill feed lit up. Glorious.

It's one thing if they shutdown their own created servers, but it's highly likely they talk about the master/authentication server. If that one shuts down you can not log into the required EA services, which means the server browser will not work anymore. Epic shut down the master server for older Unreal Tournament servers last year and the community had to set up and redirect to a community owned one for the server browser to work again. So the out of the box copy of UT doesn't work for online play anymore. For PC people will probably gravitate towards Venice Unleashed, Project Rome or whatever, as they have the required means for the online portion to work again, but consoles will be left in the dust. PC players will have to tinker a bit to get these games running in the future.

Battlefield 3, 4, and hardline are not "live service" games, they all have support for proprietary servers, so you cant really argue that they have an "inevitable expiration date." The real reason why EA shut down the online services completely is not because of server cost. It costs EA barely any money for them to host these old servers. They are doing this because they want to force players to buy new games, because EA can't make money off people that play older titles. EA pulls the plug and threaten anyone with lawsuits if they attempt to set up community servers for their games. After knowing all of this, do you really believe EA cares about their customers or making enjoyable games?

Well this is it boys. It´s been an honour playing with you. Well over 2000 hours on Bf 4 on xbox 360. Hundreds of bucks spend on xbox life. Thousands of 24 player conquest games, also rush or gungame from time to time. So many rage quits on good old 24/7 24 player operation locker. So many new friends. Every evening playing with the same comunity, same people. Doing shit and having an absoulut ball on empty servers late in the night. Or just telling funny stories from life with random guys while playing. I started playing bf4 on PC and it can´t be compared to old gen. Not because of the game but because of the comunity. Joined one server and got insta perma ban. Joined another one and got nonstop killed by total sweaty tryhards in 64 player chaos. Where fun? RIP progression, playtime, friends, dog tags, servers...
