As an F1 gamer it’s so frustrating seeing the state of the F1 games rn. F1 24 has been an all time low. Ever since the EA takeover in 2021 every game since 2022 has been going backwards and 2022 was probably the breaking point after the shocking handling which a lot of the community abandoned the f1 game. It also was founded out Codemasters had massive plans for the F1 games before the EA takeover which got abandoned which highlights how much EA only bought it to destroy the franchise

Correction for F1 2016, even if you win the championship you don't have the number 1 in your car. It is only from F1 2017 that we have the possibility to have the number 1 on the car, after winning the championship.

EA buying Codemasters definitely didn’t make things any better but in general I think they were slowly going downhill even before the buyout. Outside of the F1 games their output was getting pretty stale especially games like Dirt 4 and Grid 2019. Even Dirt Rally 2.0, despite that game being insanely good at face value, made people pay just to add back certain cars and rally stages from the first Dirt Rally through DLC. I don’t even hate their games necessarily but they don’t feel anywhere near as ambitious and well crafted as they used to be back in the late 2000’s to early 2010’s.

Dont care for F1 games, anymore, but still gonna watch it. I was actually into cars since I can remember but never much into motorsports, the thing that flipped my switch was playing F1 2018 and watching Drive to Survive😅 Now I watch literally everything that has an engine, wheels and goes racing. When I was around 2 to 5 years old I was very much into motorbikes actually, liked cars but loved bikes

The biggest problem with F1 is the franchise itself, which means that developers can only use the car models of the current season. They don't give developers real copyright. To be precise, they only provide partial authorization. This is very authoritarian management behavior. What players really want is nothing more than a real career mode (preferably with a complete story), more realistic physics, different players can use different controllers to compete, and all previous seasons and all cars. They don't even need to roll back to 1950, just integrate all the cars from 2004-2024 seasons. Copy and paste behavior is not that difficult to operate. However, since Codemasters was acquired by EA, I expected this to happen. As for the real race, the real race is treated as a joke by the referees and the FIA, with arbitrary penalties, too many red flags, race manipulation, etc., which will make fans lose enthusiasm (of course, those radical and ignorant extreme fans attacking others will cause fewer people to pay attention to the event). The worst case scenario is that EA loses the F1 exclusivity and F1 stops in the next few years, even though they have done their best to increase the number of races to 24 to try to attract more manufacturers. But I still don't think this is a long-term solution. F1 may completely collapse in the 2026-2030 period.

That F1 Life would fit well in a Test Drive and even NFS like game, but is not exactly what anyone would want in a F1 game. I fully agree that there's no chances for another company to pick the license if EA lose it. Kunos is too busy with AC Evo, same for Reiza with Automobolista 2 and Studio-397 with rFactor 2/Le Mans Ultimate. F1 could make a lot of money for those studios, but there's risks if they decide to try. One game i play a lot is MotoGP 22 from Milestone. I think the reason that i'm inmersed in that game is because while the career mode is good and the races are enjoyable, the amount of classic content (extra bikes and tracks) is great. The 500cc bikes are wonderful. F1 games needs to fix the gameplay, physics and the technical aspects first, but extra content would help a lot. And not just classic cars: the F3 is quite necessary.

I think what hurts the F1 gaming franchise the most is the forced yearly release. For it do be a really good game, it needs to have a solid base game to stand on, kind of like how Iracing and Asseto Corsa do it.

FOM should liberalise the F1 game market, even if it means console exclusivity(although this is nowadays rare). Edit: After watching the entire video, I saw David Greco being mentioned, I used to have him as a friend on Facebook about 10 years ago while I still used it regularly

I kinda hope F1 goes in the opposite direction, instead of selling a "new game" every year, sell season packs... 2025 pack and even old seasons pack, it would be fantastic. And even crazier perhaps open the doors to things like Iracing and the new Assetto Corsa to implement season packs.

I think the huge drop on sales is also linked to Verstappen domination, as his 22-23 run did make a huge impact on the championship. I myself, a Red Bull fan, had essentially 0 interest in F1 and its feeder series in 2023 and at the start of 24
@mancantswim66191Күн бұрын
Yes I agree. I literally only watched 1 race in 2023 after it became clear Verstappen would win every single one. The only bits of the races I saw were from rocketpoweredmohawk videos. Once Lando started challenging Max I was genuinely excited to watch F1 again, and if it is as competitive this year, I will definitely be watching the whole season.

5:17 oh yes the glorious F1 2009. When you mentioned it the theme song, that banger, instantly came to mind. I honestly loved the game, well I was little when it came out so can you really blame me. Played on the wii with that steering wheel accessory that came with the game, so much fun

F1 is the same game since 2015 or 2016, in which we notice minimal improvements in terms of graphics, yearly updates about tracks, car liveries and drivers. The last time I noticed a huge improvement was f1 2020 when we had your own team career mode and braking point from f1 2021 but excluding this the game is just a dlc for the previous game( f1 24 is the best example because they haven t touched anything in that project, haven t fixed issues, they just added the new liveries …. I mean they are more than jerks to do such a little work and ask so much). I still remember how disappointed I was their lack of care about details… Mercedes team have switched their steering wheel shape in 2021 but their payed attention one year later when they released f1 22 …. I mean those guys are paid to breath and sleep in those studios

I remember in F1 23, I was leading a Monaco race in career when a red flag towards the end caused a glitch in which I got lapped for some reason.I haven't touched the game since. I'd rather play F1Challenge or GP4 instead of playing these recent games.

F1 2002 was my 1st game to play on the PS2, then F1 2009 on the Wii and then F1 2012 to 2023 on the Xbox. I didn't buy 2024 mainly because the price to buy the game is absurd but also the fact that there was nothing to entice me to the game, i'm not a career mode guy so that didn't interest me. F1 2020/21 was were I was fully invested into League Racing mainly due to COVID but because the games were still fun for me to play. I think it was mainly down to age and work IRL and to the point where I just didn't enjoy video games as much as my teenage years and not to say I stopped played video games all together but my motivation was not there anymore. As of right now due to my line of work I don't have time and the motivation to play F1 games or video games in general and while thats sad at the same time thats the way life goes. I just hope that the F1 game improves for the next generation of fans, F1 is certainly more popular than it was 10 years ago and if F1 wants to keep young fans invested in the sport. Make the video game franchise somewhat good at least. A great video to start the year Joe! Hope this year will be a great year for the channel.

A very well detailed video. You described the games and the problems well. I used to buy f1 games every year. I have played every f1 game on pc, and for the 1st time I didn't buy f1 24. Only played it with the EA trial and the free weekend. And based on the experience its clear its not worth the money.

I purchased F1 24 shortly after it released. Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to play it this year. I finally got around to it today; not one roster update or even any livery updates, just a bunch of bullshit F1 Life stuff. Disheartening. The heart is gone and the road is being paved for EA micro transactions.

I dearly hope Codemasters gets dropped. It's better to not have a game for some years than having a terrible company doing terrible games every year. EA killed sports games
@PhilipDVBКүн бұрын
I think they should lose the licence. Maybe we will end up with a couple of seasons not having a game to play, but F1 itself is big enough to live trough that, and if that means the franchise will escape the EA hellhole of yearly meaningless releases - so be it. I can't stand to look at these games anymore...

Nice Video.....The trouble is EA make a lot of sport titles under it's umbrella and F1 is just a tiny part of that and all there sport games are down on sales but if you combine them all they are still making money for EA so unless sales dip to zero I still think EA will be making F1 2032 and more in the future. Now if this was just Codemasters on there own with the poor sales figures it would be a different story but with EA I think they will be okay.
