I never use anything on a knife I would use on a gun. A very light coat of olive oil ensures I can cut an apple without consuming something you shouldn’t

#1 thats not a light coat. #2. You should heat the knife up first to open the pores of the metal before applying.

Hi Mike. You must be referencing the firearm manual for applying frog lube. Heating the blades prior to application is not necessary and not recommended.

Wait, did you seriously not research this stuff before supplying it to customers?? Lol I’m a blacksmith and holster maker out of Kentucky, I’ve used it all and talked to the owners of said companies. This is NOT how frog lube is supposed to be applied!!! Ignoring the fact this stuff is just gimmick, yes it works but any good synthetic oil nowadays will too. Unless you take the time to heat the knife/gun the lube won’t stay in place. It’s designed to be “melted” before applying. The instructions from FrogLube themselves is to heat said item slightly so the lube melts as you apply it. I know, it’s a small detail but FrogLube themselves will tell you if you don’t apply heat it’s a waste of time using their products 👍🏼

Josh, I’ve used it both ways (heated and non-heated), and I’ve found that Froglube works either way. It does penetrate a little better if the metal is warmed, but I’ve used it on knives for years without any heat.

The newer formula Froglube doesn’t call for the metal to be heated more. It’s more important to completely clean and remove fouling/old oil first then apply froglube. I’m not really sold on any particular CLP either but for a knife that could potentially cut off then Froglube is definitely the best choice. I’ve had a 1939 nickel plated Colt woodsman I detail stripped and cleaned 6 years ago with Froglube and it’s still nice and slick.
