I bought an early serpent (cerial# low 2000s), and i have a much bigger problem. My blade actually snapped in half. And they will not replace it. So im not sure what life time warranty means with them. Proceed with caution ⚠️

I’ve seen that with a lot of brands unfortunately. My Chris Reeve Inkosi Insingo has a very similar grind issue. I have a few knives across different brands that share the same “issue”. Spyderco, Lion Steel, Tops, Bark River etc, all have some lopsided grinds. I’ve just stopped analyzing evenness, as long as the knife performs well and is mechanically safe.

Thanks for the overview! I really love the designs of their knives and while the inconsistencies probably won't effect the durability of the blade (especially CPM3V) I am very hesitant on buying one. It's a considerable amount of money for knife that was machine cut. I had a similar problem with the RMJ Tactical Unmei. *shrug*

The inconsistencies are present, but so insignificant I doubt they'd matter performance-wise. It'll only matter to your psyche.

I highly recommend the Canku 1140c It is worth every penny at $25 Buy with a Ulticlip 3.3 Slim $15 Do NOT buy the “Silver” one, they don’t grind the edges correctly on them. The “Black” and “Green” ones are excellent but do to the lack of contrast in edge to blade color on the silver ones, they have been ground incorrectly on each one I’ve gotten.

That’s so interesting. This is the third review on three separate models that have all said how inconsistent their blades are. That’s too bad. For that kind of money I would really want a more symmetrical blade.

I would concede that it won't impact performance. I suppose this is a tactical knife. I'm not a tactical person. For me this is a bougie knife. Someone out there more knowledgeable than me might think it's a big deal. But me months after making this video, I'm less likely to complain. It is what it is.

Blade grind is aesthetic as well as a sign of quality. Comparatively a Dirk Pinkerton custom Smilodon Hawkbill Tanto, (three grind surfaces) was ordered with N690co, micarta, standard kydex, for $240 delivery 7 weeks. It looks first in show. When available you can choose, Elmax, 3v, M390, Nitro V, et cetera add $$. Ready to scrutinize from any angle with a caliper and perfectly symmetrical. The argument that uneven grind will still cut, holds no water with me, grind and edge on a file chisel and it will cut but not as well as a proper symmetrical grind type, to material, and in deference to blade thickness. A lot of yahoos out there with forges and grinders, expensive equipment that just make knives. Call them semi or custom shop built that are long on marketing and short on artistry and craftsmanship. Caveat emptor. These don’t look comparable to factory Bastien Coves. I appreciate the author, his diplomacy, and accurate review.

I have been using mine more often and I feel like I gave it a bad rap based on the asymmetry. I don't like the asymmetry but it's still a fine product. For what it's meant for, the lack of consistency won't matter performance-wise. It's just, for that amount of money, idk man. I want symmetry at least.

I would assume they are probably hiring machinist for like sub 20$ an hour...so they are gonna have issues on their fixtures/ops. It looks to me like they are milling their swedge/bevel, one side op1 the other side op2, if the work offset is off .020-.050" that would explain the mismatch. Brace built firearms is paying their set-up guys 16$ an HR so I'd definitely never buy an AR from them. Good machinist don't work for that kind of wage, so the product quality will reflect that. I could be wrong but I think that is a bad mill offset
@deltafunction02 жыл бұрын
I know Microtech does something like this. They have a very high turnover rate and their employees cycle in and out a lot. But I've never spotted an imperfection in a Microtech knife. And I'd have to think an OTF with its anodized aluminum and M390 blade is harder to make than a fixie out of G10 and 3V. The only issue I had with a Microtech was because I shotgunned beers with an Ultratech and beer got inside and gummed it up. That is totally my fault. Even still, Microtech fixed it for free, minus the fact I paid to ship it to them. So I'm torn. These imperfections won't impact performance. But still, things like this might best be done on a CNC instead of by hand.

@deltafunction02 жыл бұрын
I think it's a manufacturing character, not a purposeful design. Why would someone design it asymmetrically? It's not a chisel grind. It's just a hand-ground knife. And maybe I didn't give credit where credit is due... this is not going to affect performance. It's just, to the naked eye it's a very obvious flaw.
