Eachine VRD2. DVR + diversity + cheap…BUT?

Review of the Eachine VRHD goggles. The Eachine fpv goggles have a heap of things build into the VR H2. DVR + diversity, they come with a cloverleaf and also a patch antenna. The Eachine goggles even have an awesome form factor with a pretty decent battery...But it just doesnt come together that well. The DVR kills it and make it laggy and it doesnt feel that great when flying. Hopefully these issues will be resolved in a future revision.

You can switch to the normal view (AV1) while recording, so that makes it much better!

One thing I really LOVE about this headset is that there is a red light next to each antenna, showing you which one you are using. So, everytime I crash and cannot find my micro quad, I just turn the goggles around and, when the light corresponding to the patch antenna turns on, I know exactly in which direction I should walk! This is a really nice exploit if you have a micro quad and no buzzer :)

I haven't got my goggles yet, but people at rcgroups are saying that the latancy and framedrops when using the dvr can be fixed by using AV1 instead of AV2. I think the video goes through the dvr when using AV2, and adds latency.

As others have said if you just switch back to AV1 after hitting record in the DVR view it keeps recording but doesn't have the FPS problem. There is also an update file on the rc groups forum that supposedly reduces the frame delay in DVR view

they are shipped with extra inner foam liners that you stick on yourself. so i just put 1 on top of the other and them cut a piece to bridge the nose section . now its super comfy, and no light leaks. also, i take my glasses off when using them . you can adjust the sliding lens inside to focus any blurriness with your vision. works great

Switch to AV1 while flying and you will have no lag. AV2 is used for viewing the DVR not for flying. An auto scan feature would have been nice but I cannot find it anywhere. these goggles are advertised for PPL with glasses. my glasses do not fit in. The adjustable lens inside does not help out very much.

i also have them. flew today for the first time 😎 one tip, go to av2 to activate the dvr, then go back to av1 for flying. no problem when you do this.

Lithium Ion batteries have no memory so you can use/charge them as you please. No need to completely deplete the battery and give a full recharge. Also just wondering what size micro sd card you are using as i have noticed similar things with different devices but it seems to stop what i used a smaller sized card and i run Class 10. Just wondering as i just fried my EV800s and was looking at getting these as a step up, Cheers

i've been using these for about 10 days and i really like them. The only complaint i have is that the flat antenna arrived broken, it doesnt fit with glasses on and it's a little bit un comfortable

Was this one the "V2" version 2 of this model? Apparently Eachine made quite a few fixes in the V2.

felt he same way on dvr at first but then figured the button is actually a switch between 2 vid outputs where AV1 is where we fly and get that fluid image with no latency that we want, and AV2 is what dvr uses for recording and indeed lags the hell out of it. so then I realized you can still be on av1 while dvr is recording and so far have been happy with it. in fact if you press the dvr record arrow button, you don't even have to be on the dvr av it will still start recording only it won't show signs of recording, but that button just seems hard wired to start recording anyways. of course the actual record qualtiy is not that great and suffers from blackouts as reception drops but with the price in mind I can't complain. ps.: did a 1km open sky range test to see how the patch does, and it managed no problems, just thought I'd share.

Great review. My Dvr/record screen does not come on. It came on when I bought it but that was it. Cant record as a result. Any ideas? P.S. I did download the firmware and put on the card and inserted into the goggles.

I got these on the sale. The firmware update fixed the image cropping issue, but the DVR recording still isn't great (seems to blackscreen less than before the update, but it's hard to tell). That said I have no problem with the framerate on AV1. Biggest issue for me is that lack of depth making me feel uncomfortably crosseyed or blurring the image. They need to be a couple of inches longer.

When you recorde with the DVR York just have to switch from AV2 to AV1. In my opinion this goggle is much better then the Kylin or Cyclops because it have Divetsity and a DVR

It's not fake. It's called 'Switching' or 'Antenna' diversity. One receiver, and 2 antenna which the receiver monitors and switches to which one is has the better signal. You don't have to have 2 or more receivers to have diversity, as long as the single receiver is able to switch antennas properly.

I think the biggest issue is the screen distance, they are too close to your face. The dvr issue has been fiixed, but really... I don't know if getting these or the EV800 (I don't like the kylin, just because of their shape)

I had the same problem with an eachine DVR until I used a decent SD card(sandisk ultra or something).

Neither antenna is marked as RHCP..?...In fact the Patch looks like a Linear polarised to me...? The hot glue on the skew will have a very bad effect on the signal too...

There two audio channels av1 is the dvr channel and av2 is the live feed. If you depress the cam/dvr twice you can get out of the dvr mode into the live feed. These googles are awesome!!!!!! Hope this helps you !!!!

By a press of a button you can switch between AV input and DVI. As soon as you start recording, DVI gets laggy - you should switch back to AV1 which will make your video smooth again while still recording.

Fatshark are not that good. It is like looking through a tunnel and at the end of the tunnel is a small TV. they are really over rated and cost so much money, I have the Dominator v3 and believe it or not, I prefer these to them.

I just pre-ordered the Eachine VR D2 Pro. It is 75.00 on Banggood and seems to address the main concerns that you had with the original pair that you reviewed. If you get your hands on a set before they are released I'd love to get your impression of them. I'm Brand new to the racing hobby. My first hobby is photography so I bought a DJI Phantom 3 Pro and that lead me to buying a few toy quads to learn to fly without all the auto features and I found that I really enjoyed flying fast. To get started with FPV i've also ordered the Kingkong 90GT. I figure I can learn to fly with it, and can fly it just about anywhere. In the house, at the park, and in my yard. No worry of damage to people, property, or even the quad for the most part. Don't think I saw a review by you on the Kingkong 90GT but I will double check. Just liked this video and subscribed to your channel.

Those batteries are 2x18650 Li-ion in series. if u are ok with soldering u can replace/upgrade them with some stronger ones so u get more runtime/juice and u can use same charger. Suggestion Panasonic NCR18650B 3400mAh(best buck for money, very good quality and 10A rating and only downside they dont have protection). Or if u wanna overkill put 28650... Number explanation 18 is diameter in mm and 650 is lenght in mm... Cheers and keep up the good work

You ought to get some normal glasses without lenses to see if it will fit over. That would help me. Or measure with a digital caliper the inside where glasses can go. Can you do that? That will help me consider these types of goggles. Thanks. I have a Quanum V2 and still using it. Very old.

they're running the signal through the DVR and then to the screen... instead of using two outputs from the receiver... it's the same DVR as the stand alone one... it is a known issue

I rewired it..directly from the receiver to the LDC board and...no luck....still freezes so im guessing its the LCD or the receiver that causes it...

found the problem!! it seems to be a bad lcd screen or board, I moded my D2's with a video out plugging and when the goggle freezes, the other monitor does not, so that confirm that the diversity receiver works fine!!...i might try to find a replacement screen from eachine now

The problem is not in obsolete firmware. There are two screens: FPV and DVR. When you switch to DVR and start recording, to continue flying you should switch back to FPV screen. It will not lag and you will be able to fly ok. So no "BUT...". This is just a cheap and pretty good device for its price.

seems to be 2 18650 batteries. Nothing special, you can manually charge them up to 4,2 volts both or balance them normally with your charger.

UAVfutures. You are using the goggles the wrong way.. You don't need to be on DVR mode to record the fly.. You can go to Live Video Feed, like a regular FPV system, and keep recording at the same time with no delay at all on the goggles screen.

Im amazed that no one mentioned the quality of the “manual”. Essentially, it sucks. This is a common problem. Why cant the vendors spend a few bucks to hire a translator fluent in English and also with hobby electronics? This is prevalent across our hobby. Im really fed up. Stu...Agree with your review - and.....1. Face plate and foam are a terrible fit. They feel very narrow. I have a set of UFO googles that have a wide plate, with a comfy fake leather/foam padding, not light leaks, much better.2. The battery slips out off its Velcro holder. Should have been mounted sideways maybe. Trusty Velcro has fixed the problem.3. DVR, Stu said it all. Its terrible. I'm not too worried about using it to much ...but at the very least, it should work.4. I think my eyesight is OK but every time I buy a set of googles it seems that to be in focus my eyes should be about another 2cm away form the lens. Moving the lens does not help.I guess the issue is that nobody has nailed a budget set of googles yet.... thought these would be the ones but alas its time to design a few parts and crank up the 3D printer. There seems to be a pattern emerging with these manufacturers... release version 1, wait for the reviewers to comment, release version 2 with issues fixed. Meanwhile mugs like me that buy version 1 suffer.

Its a very non-intuitive process then. But your correct this does work. Seems a bit shonky at detecting the SD card at times also. Sometimes it will read it, others for reasons I haven't worked out yet I just get noting on AV2.

I love your channel and reviews, but I think you missed a couple things here. Your biggest complaint is completely avoidable. Others have mentioned it, but by the lag from the DVR seems to only appear if you are watching AV2 (aka the DVR). If you start the recording then switch to AV1, the lag should disappear. Be sure to go back and stop the DVR recording when you're done flying. That said, the DVR footage is less than perfect, but is very adequate for finding crashed quads and the like! Keep up the great content!
