The Eagle tried, ....BUT IT Didn't Succeed, The man with the Radio Controlled Glider Outsmarted it.

Did you see that? I think just before the 1st attack the bird brought one wing up to his eyes in the international symbol for " I'm watching you " on the serious side I have an idea... There are hawks at each of two flying areas I use and they have approached my aircraft .... so.... I think I will cut a piece of a CD (or DVD) disk and attach it to the top of the wing in the middle... this should cause light reflection that may confuse the bird and keep it away... this is a well established technique for keeping birds away on the ground so I'm guessing it will work in the air as well.

Vultures, eagles, don’t seem to worry about aspect ratio in their wings, but they can soar for hours with an occasional corrective flap. The albatross does seem to believe in it, though

What kind of plane were you flying? Looks like a DG 1000? Nice Video, great interaction with the bird. Like the Wing covering scheme.

a mock attack, or a failed mating attempt?

When ever this happens to me, I do a loop. Eagles can not handle a loop.

I use to be chased around by these bird-of-pray with bad attitude too. So, on a good lifting day, I would have plenty of energy to turn the table on it, being all over its six o' clock and ended up chasing it away. But on a weak day, there was no contest. Finally, may I complement you with your well-timed evasive maneuver!

I think they wouldn't be able to follow a plane doing a loop!

I am truly jealous of your interaction with this awesome bird! Heh, Well I can see how the eagle would fancy it's chances of beating up this flying creature. It has the same span, and lots more muscle, plus a deadly beak and claws. But I reckon if it really wanted to do damage, then damage would be done. ;¬) A very interesting bird this is too. I never knew that the females were bigger than the males! Up to just over 9ft wingspan! WoW!

@@mcbrite Debatable for a few reasons. Firstly they do it all year round, that isn't nest protection - birds that do it as nest protection do it for a limited time, a few months tops. Secondly they are the baddest thing in the skies and have been for a long time, things that threaten their eggs tend to be tree dwellers rather than fliers, they do it to Australian Pelicans as well and they've shared the sky with the Pelican for a good long time so it starts to seem more territorial, the baddest thing in the sky just staking its claim. The third arguable reason is that what is going on with the plane bears striking resemblance to their courtship ritual - it's possible that the Eagle is flirting with the plane. Sadly I've never lived nearby for long enough to see if it stops when the opposite sex moves in.
