Thank you for this! I just started dancing again after 15 years and am currently making my regalia. This has been such a blessing for people like me, who don’t live in an area or have as many people that can teach me how to make pieces of my regalia. 💜💜

Just a pointer to help... Use a fly fishing spool threader..it looks like a wish bone.. that way you can really pull on your work and get very detailed... Just a suggestion... That's what I use.... Hope that helps

❤❤❤ Chelsey, thank you for allowing us to share in this sacred act of creating your eagle feather fan. I love this little peek into your life as a young Indigenous woman, wife and mother. Personally, I am flabbergasted that your little ones allowed you so much uninterrupted time!! As an artist and writer, my children were always needing our wanting something right at the most critical points. And, I loved to hear the sweet voices of your children in the background. If you ever decide to help your little ones make their own fans, I would love to watch the video with my 5 year old grandson. Also, I hope you will create a video of you dancing at your first PowWow. I am interested to know how the experience expands your spiritual relationship and enriches your life. How will it improve your role as a mother? I berks we all need to plant ourselves deeply in our roots of spiritual connection to the Divine Source. I am very impressed with the beautiful craftsmanship and your commitment to creating the finest, most beautiful fan. Will you create another one? Wouldn't that be a lovely, life-affirming present for someone special on the occasion of their own first PowWow? I love your sense of humor. And I love that your husband is so supportive of you. You have such a beautiful energy and an inner light that makes this world a more hopeful place. Blessings be upon you Dear One. ❤

I'm so glad to have found your video! I have held onto my Eagle feathers (but not been able to use the number of them I have) for YEARS because I've been too scared to make a fan, and it's been difficult to find good instruction. But the time has come! I appreciate you sharing your mistake, as I was struggling with understanding feather placement with the curves. Thank you so much for your humor and sharing. I feel more confident to take on this project! Miigwetch!

Just came across this. And this is the cutest and best video I’ve ever seen! One thing I learned to remind myself constantly is when it comes to powwow regalia work is don’t worry about how it looks up close because nobody at the pw is ever looking that close to your outfit, beadwork or feather work. Lol you did such a great job. Thanks for this video! I love it & learned so much!

Just beautiful!! Sometimes we learn as we go. Trial and error. My grandfather passed when I was 10 and I never met any if his family. He chose to live as a french Canadian instead of sharing his beautiful Native American heritage and beliefs with his kids and grandkids. It saddens me but I believe he must have had his reasons. I hope you had a wonderful time at your virtual powwow. Many blessings to you. 💗

I understand very well what you mean but at the same time I have native blood in my lineage. I have family from the Mic Maq tribe in Canada. I was raised to be extremely proud of this lineage even if it comes way down. Many do not understand that it is not because your parents or grandparents are native that your ancestors are not your pride. It is my pride. I take it as a great privilege. We have been taught that our great great great grandmothers were courageous women with knowledge that were passed down. I am a medium and communicate with them. I take that more seriously than many that are pure blood without being disrespectful. Namaste .

I did my redtail hawk fan the same way--washi tape, clearcoat (the brush-on kind) to hold it in place, and E6000 adhesive to hold the feathers in place. I figured if it could hold on auto body parts, it'll hold up for powwow! I even use the stuff to rubberise my moc soles.

Hi 👋 new viewer from Philippines 🇵🇭 . An eagle feather should never be left contaminated with dust. The eagle feather should also never dropped the ground since that's disrespectful in native American culture. I like the end result of your eagle feather fan.

Thank you for your video. I'm making my regalia for the first time (coming home to my Modoc roots) and it's so helpful to have videos to show how to do it since my Native side of the family is basically ignoring their heritage... ☹️ Well not all thankfully because my great aunt made sure my whole life that I never forget my native ancestry and that always meant a lot to me so here I am, trying to recover my heritage. I'm trying to learn how to make the feather plume hairpiece (women's regalia) and I'll be beading my headband soon also. I'd be super-thrilled to find a video on how to make those (though I've been beading for a few years now so it's more the structural how-to that I haven't figured out yet). Please let me know if you have a video for that. Thanks!

I once bought a fan and my aunt got so mad at me saying” we do not buy our fans, fans are gifts/earned though ceremony”, we can also traditionally trade for feathers as well, when I got the fan it was taken away and I was told to earn it, I hope you receive the feathers from creator instead of buying them as a lot of people frown upon it, it was a huge wake up call for me as I try to walk the traditional/modern way

you are trying. A true warrior! I make some dance articles for my Cherokee wife. Do want any plastic or metal. Use precolonial models, which you may see in museums even online. Still not a copy. She picks her materials from a collection of stock items from the forest.... Also there is one tradition to use in indigenous crafts, with something from the animal world, something from the botanical world and something form the earth.

Thank you for the video. I think you could have left out a few of your editorials but then that wouldn't make it your video. Your fan is beautiful it is yours you made it with your hands and your ideas. It is yours. I would have suggested you use hot glue instead of the wood filler. Also the glue to put on the black leather, my recommendation is to use 3m spray glue or a contact cement. I would prefer the contact cement but the 3m is pretty much the same in a spray. I would have also, since you are good with a needle, stiched the black parts together. But then you always have next time and from what I can see you may have an opportunity to make more for others. You're color schemes are natural and your sense of symmetry is very good. I'm am more of a raw natural. The feather fans I've seen in museums are pretty raw. The feathers I find along the road are from birds I'm not sure of what species I just pick up what I can find that are of interest. I try to straighten them put the like ones together and try to keep it as symmetrical as possible but also with a very raw native look rather than a commercial look. In my opinion, and this is only my opinion as I am not a "registered Native American" I am only one who appreciates the culture, the commercial beauty that has bestowed many off the Native culture is part of the indoctrinated white culture. I'm not saying that is bad but it looks like something in a GAP or American Eagle commercial.
