I grew up going up to Camp Albert Pike. lots of familiar scenery, thank you for sharing it. Though he was really young, my eldest got to see a lot of it before they closed the campground after the 2010 flood.

Did that one the opposite direction back in April. Water was a tad bit higher by the time we left Albert Pike. Had to road hike back to Blalock creek trailhead. Great trail and worth the drive.

Are you sure that the "Hi Mark" wasn't a water level marker?? 🤣 On those deep water pools try putting a polarized sunglasses lens over the camera to get the underwater features and fishies. I had luck doing that with my iPhone on a beautiful deep pool in a creek.

Spiguyver Backpacking : I have some photos of an awesome clear pool at Lost Maples using my filter hack and some without for comparison. I'll try to make it a point of showing them to you when I see you. If I recall correctly, it does matter what angle the polarized glasses are held at. According to the current 10-day forecast the weather at The Hang is going to be similar to last year. I was comfy last year and have upgraded my system for this year. My new system is definitely lighter, and theoretically warmer. I used a pro-tuned ghetto rig last year (a setup I developed with a minimal budget but with plenty of experience). This year I'm going with off-the-shelf components: Warbonnet Eldorado, 0°F Wooki, Hammock Gear 20°F top quilt, and a SnugPak Jungle Blanket XL as a top-cover. I'm still hunting for the perfect budget tarp. I'll most likely be using my 'pro-tuned' Mier tarp ($40 on Amazon with custom pole mod - not hiker friendly at 3+ lbs), or my Simply Light Designs Simplicity asymmetrical tarp that is awesome (for backpacking) at 8 oz including lines, but it seems to be a fair weather tarp. I'm looking at the Hummingbird Hammocks Pelican tarp and the Hammock Gear Journey for my next major upgrade. Let me know if you have any suggestions on a $150-$175 full coverage winter(ish) tarp with doors. No Cuben in my budget at the moment. Maybe the Dream Hammock folks have a tarp I'm looking for. I'm going to check their webpage now and see what they offer for shelters!

@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 4 жыл бұрын
I am 5'7", but it will fit someone 6'+ no problem. Just make sure you lay in the hammocks diagonally, that's the biggest mistake new hangers make. You can check out my Hammock How-To series if you are looking at getting into a hammock. And tomorrow I'm actually putting out a DIY upgrade video for that budget hammock.

Planning on hiking the trail next month. Did ya really cross the water with your shoes? Curious what hikers are using when crossing the waters. Thanks
@SpiguyverBackpacking1
@SpiguyverBackpacking1 2 жыл бұрын
There are enough crossings on this trail that if you’re switching shoes you’ll be spending a lot of time stopping to swap. Some people do. I choose to just have camp shoes to change into after I’m done for the day.

I’ve been curious about that hammock. I saw it on amazon and wondered if it was one those too good to be true products. It seems to have most the features that you would get with a cottage vendor hammock, but at a fraction of the cost. I look forward to the full review video.

That makes sense. I was looking today and didn’t see it on amazon anymore. I did notice a few other models that looked similar to something you’d get from our US cottage vendors. China manufacturers may have finally caught onto what makes a good camping hammock. It’s good to have cheaper options, but I hope it doesn’t negatively effect our vendors.

Cool, do what works best for you. I used to dehydrate my own, but since finding Outdoor Pantry, I've been sold. I find their flavors to be a lot better. But I do get it, carry what you'll eat, the two worst things are being out in the woods and not being able to sleep, or not enjoying what you eat!
