After being a broker of 7 years for a top 10 brokerage in the country ill be saying goodbye at the end of the month. One of my customers of 6 years is hiring me dedicated paying 3k a week running auto parts locally and regional in a Sprinter. Ill be going with a Meredes 170wb, 290in, high roof. Would love to hear your take on aging your MC/Authority with a commercial insurance policy on your vehicle before you actually get started so you have a head start when you want to hit the ground running.

How about buying high mileage vans and then master learning how to install crate engines ? It would be like a fun hobby that saves you money plus more reliable because if you learned all the in and outs of keeping the van running you just fix what needs to be fixed real quick. Maybe cheaper insurance too , idk If you ever wreck it part it out and take the good engine/transmission out and use the parts to build a new van

Time isn't free. Crate engines aren't free. Trouble shooting is "time" consuming. None of it makes money unless you're rolling. Then you'll never regain at .70 mile.

You're missing the point. Consider the value of time, time wasted, and how much income loss from extensive down time. Save a thousand dollars or two in labor, but lose $4000 + in down time? Not much sense to me. And I guarantee your engine or tranny won't puke in your driveway. Right? More like 12 hours from home. Pay a thousand or more to tow home to your "crate motor"? Plus going home empty without a load?! Been there done that. Simply pay the $75 to $175 (diesel mechanic) per hour, fast quick with warranty. Roll out of the shop to your next load, and start recouping the losses on repairs. No cheap way out. Especially at .70 mile, Lol. The time you're spending playing master mechanic, you're better off rolling earning. Always have a backup. Like, one or two extra vans to jump into.

I'm considering trading my truck for a van, and getting a cheap car for when im not using the truck. Besides my personal use for my main business, i figured "hey, when things are slow, with a van i could pick up a load here or there".

You and I have similar jobs and I know you like your Sprinters but I haven't had one since 2016 and life has been great. I was getting around 18.2 mpg in a Transit 350 and almost 20 mpg in a Promaster 2500. Transit seat is really comfortable compared to Promaster. Just remember in bad weather the Transit needs weight in the back or it will NOT go. I use (6) 80lbs bags of tube sand from Lowe's by the wheel wells if I don't have much weight. I really enjoy your videos.

Go with your gut, a good carrier is someone whos respectful to drivers, pays on time and does all they can do to keep you busy. Its not easy now things are down, freight is still cheap and loads are hard to get. Sometimes drivers think a good carrier is someone who can give them loads daily but we have to win the freight 1st and sometimes there is down time. Yea it's cheap now but everything bounces back. @williamrobinson6680
@williamrobinson6680 6 ай бұрын
@@Eagle-Xpress Respectfully. But this has been researched carefully. Gross pay is more than factory, but net figures are not. You have to carefully follow your pay and watch where it ends up. The OP is spot on. The expedite business is dead. With those that gain to benefit off drivers, propping and hyping it up. No, not a vacation. A vacation is with family and time to enjoy. It's work, and very hard work. To win a bid, you may have to promise 20 hrs, on a 24 trip. NOT GOOD. No health insurance, benefits package, retirement, profit sharing, union leverage, longevity pay, raises. Actually driving pay drops, while factory pay goes up. And what do drivers charge the industry for missing our families for weeks? Lol. Nothing!!! A driver can't say I want 20% more because I can't be with family daily. Obviously your family isn't worth it. Just take the .70 mile. Shame. Hazard pay. What percentage increase do we charge for being in the top 10 dangerous occupation? Less!! .70 per mile, lol! Fuel! We pay our own fuel. And the fuel surcharges negotiated are not being forwarded to the drivers. The brokers are pocketing the fuel surcharges. There's no argument. O/O expedite industry is failing. A losing proposition. Factory work is safer, home each night watching families and babies grow. A wealth of benefits packages, REAL family vacations, unions to fight and protect when employers exploit workers. Opportunity for advancement, raises, paid sick time, college tuition Opportunity etc etc, we can go on all day. Also, it makes no sense. Is a billion dollar corporation going to saturate their company with product, then drivers, trucks, insurance, benefits to have drivers at the ready? OF COURSE NOT! No, they'll dangle a carrot and con O/Os to saturate THEMSELVES for cheap. Now, manufacturing can produce only as necessary, and pick and choose from only as needed from an oversaturation of empty trucks at garbage rates. And not having to pay insurance or benefit packages! Unbelievable!! A no brainer!! And still, in this grossly upside-down cargo transport market, we still hear the question, "Is this a good time to buy a cargo van?" Unreal. Sure buy one. But set it up as a commissary for prepared foods or lemonade sales. You'll net better than expedite or factory work. Move your truck from east Ohio to San El Monte CA area on occasion to sell fresh Venezuelan fruit bowls. Now that's a vacation!!

@@Eagle-Xpress Also its a great job for people who don't like a boss and love freedom. Obviously there are better businesses but many require more risk and are not as enjoyable. gas sprinters are not very common, i would not recommend them as parts are hard to get for the gas model.

I’m driving a Ford transit three 52,015 all over America been on the road for over two years. I’ve had one rear engine seal leak and had to have a transmission rebuild. That’s the only major things I make no less than 8000 and haven’t made no more than16,000 in one month yet oh yeah and I only have 127 inches of cargo space so I am only good for two pallets

You can get a good used truck for 30000 dollars and put on with a company and not buy a trailer and pull the company trailer and make a 100000 dollars a year not be a wussy in a van

Not anymore you cant, semi truck freight is doing worse than expediting. in 2020 - 2022 you could have but those days are over.

Expediting ??!!! Not Worth it, believe. Better working for a company with benefits and your 401 k plan.

401k might not be around by the time you retire. Government crooks have ways to make things like that dissappear
