don't forget that the Python MK II is almost twice the mass of the FDL and is bigger too, so you mind the gravity of the planet and the size of the canyons you are going LOL

Hardcore dedicated python pilot here.. Very nice to see this kind of review of the MK2. At 19:34 the Python's unusually high powered vertical thrusters really took you by surprise. It's one of my favorite things about the Python MK1 and I'm so happy the Mk2 retained that stand-out feature. Other than the Viper MK IV the Python is really the best ship for handling High G planetary flight and the MK2 is going to really make it shine even further. Thanks for talking about the boost cycling etc.

For it's class, the Pythons are definitely up there with Vert/Lat thrust strength when paired with a proper thruster assembly. My verdict was definitely not the best, as the FDL imo still reigns king in that category, however the Python MK 2 is CERTAINLY not the worst, or even mid-grade: it's up there near the top. And no worries about chatting about the boost timing and phases! Those two categories are super important to how I fly my ships, and it's one of the first things I try to observe when learning how to fly a new ship I haven't flown before!

Nice video mate, well done. I like the unscripted vibe of the video. That tail is a pain in the ass, literally! You said the boost phase was long enough, but I was thinking in those canyons you needed at least another 1/2 a sec. The useable boost felt short to me!

I did say long ENOUGH 😂, I never said it was amazing hahaha. Yeah the main boost phase definitely could have used an extra second at the very least. I was mostly impressed that the Python MK2 was able to revector on the first boost. I am sure we could probably throw ourselves in circumstances where it might not be enough time, but I don't really anticipate hooning a MK2 very often in Odyssey, so it hits my own mark for being acceptable for daily driving!

SCO is kinda FA off during super cruise :) but really should be a rated. “I only fly FA off” proceeds to loose shields by bumping and missing the slot. lol. One thing I notice in FA on is that ship has much better thruster up front. It can slow down from boost to 0 facing forward much faster than python or krait II. Side thrusters are pretty similar to other mid size ships.

I do only fly fa off, but I never claimed to be a "good" fa off pilot 🤣. And you're mostly right, ships tend to stop much faster fa-on. I think for us who fly fa off, we like the challenge of trying to find creative ways to slam on the space brakes. I find I often try to di-chord or tri-chord to use those verts and lats as retrogrades

And additionally, one thing the krait has fa off, with ita super duper short main boost duration phase, you can actually use the boost as a retro thruster haha. Same with iEagle. Obvs not ideal for most fa off only situations tho.

Change flight assistance from z to space bar and smash that shit every few seconds to get good. Flight assistance has advantages and disadvantages depending on what your doing.

I was worried that the step down in Distributor size would be a weakness for FAOff flight in this ship, but I'm glad to be proven wrong. And like another commenter said, it's good to see that the Mk2 retains the original's powerful vertical thrusters. I wont really know until I've got my hands on the Mk2, but I do still feel like I'll stick with the Mk1 - I prefer its shape, for both flight mechanics (the Mk2's tail, oof!) and aesthetics, and I feel like the Mk1 can still display surprising agility when piloted correctly. But this video has definitely convinced me to grab one of these after I get back from this deep space expedition!

Tbh, for strictly fa off flying (no combat) most medium ships' distros will work and grant permaboost. I probably didn't even need to bring it to G3 Charge Enhanced. But yeah, I had fun flying around in it. I am thinking I might actually try to make it an exploration yacht of some kind

Why commander! I need an upgrade from my Thrustmaster, what HOTAS do you use?

Well for my primary setup I use dual virpil delta grips with warbrd bases. But for this video I was actually using my older set, dual thrustmaster t16000's modified to have magnetic hall effect sensors for twist instead of those plastic potentiometers that fail. If you're looking for a good hotas rig, I would suggest checking out VKB's offerings. They are pretty good and they also now have a smaller budget line of gear that imo, would spend money on over logitech or TM any day.

Thank you! I am a self-proclaimed retired hooner, after the Great Flattening when Odyssey came out, so my FA off canyon flight videos are mostly done. But doing FA-Off videos like these is a very real possibility. I may do some more FA-off deep dive videos in the future, we shall see.
