In under 3 minutes, you convinced me to comment on a KZbin video, something I haven't done in, like, years. I found myself wondering a few times throughout this video, "that grass looks surreal", but it wasn't until the credits that I understood, and my jaw literally dropped. This is superlative CGI. Absolutely stunning. The house is cool too.

Absolutely! This combination of piece of art house with good music in this way makes whole thing awful.. it should be very gentle balance..

Agreed. The music is way too depressive, it doesn't fit the mood of what looks like a very happy house. I had to mute it to really appreciate the video.

it should've been like the music the Eames couple actually had in their own videos. Bright tunes without any text

This house by Charles Eames was one of the sources of inspiration for Viana de Lima at his home in Marinhas- Portugal in 1954 - kzbin.info/www/bejne/pHeToaR4Zddpeck

If you can listen to music like this and feel happy you’re probably the type of person who lives for drama.

I rarely comment on KZbin videos but I'm sorry, this house is horrendous. I can understand the attempt at simplicity and ease of construction with OTS materials, but the Case Study house program just gave us ugly, undesirable homes designed to create (sub)urban sprawl. Some of the features like floor-to-ceiling glass panels/windows and flat roofs (trademarks of the Case Study house program) are just not attractive features and are actually primary reasons not to live in these homes as those 2 characteristics alone create multiple problems with energy efficiency and water drainage. Worst of all, the "cookie cutter" reproducibility that is touted as a desired feature actually gives these houses a lack of any distinction. I grew up near Levittown, NY and there are so many houses there that are just boring and indistinct. The Case Study house program was a bold experiment and attempt at innovation, and in meeting those goals it could be considered a success, and while we've learned from each house, what was successful then is not really desired now.

Interesting aspects! Thank you. But I really relaxed instantly when I saw this house and thought "Oh! There's nothing more to it. It's just that. No sophistication in materials or build techniques. I could build this!" But you are absolutely right: the danger with simplicity is that it becomes some sort of cookie cutter and everybody copies the FORM, not the PRINCIPLES.

@Jake Stockton Historical significance and undesirability aren't mutually exclusive. It's a beautiful and innovative house, but the issues that the OP is raising are real. We need to be able to see problems in iconic design when they exist, otherwise we can never move forward.

@@lsamoa @Jake Stockton. I was fortunate enough to view the exterior and its surroundings in 2017. It is a Case Study House engaged with the challenges of living spaces in the SoCal region post WW2. It’s a delight to take it all in, including the drive and scenery. As one approaches it one’s eyes sharpen at the sight of it and one delights in the visual sensations it elicits; and, yes, the built structure is the fruition of the selected architect’s approach on tackling the challenges the Case Study House project imposes (which includes the freedom for the architect to have the final say) and one marvels at how the structure is theory, experimentation , and practice, in one go. Naturally, viewing it soon excites one’s thoughts, leading to questions of functionality, practicality, and, of course, of liveability. My friend who accompanied me that autumn afternoon went so far to say that viewing such a stunning home made her assess her place in SoCal culture as a 2nd Generation Latina with a thriving accounting practice just 20 min away. She confided that she felt the house stood aloof in relation to her lived experience. I responded by saying the house stands aloof to every Angeleno’s lived experience. This CSH by Eames ‘works’ in that it elicits wonder, raises questions the other commenters on this post write about, opens up further possible avenues of architectural experimentation & theory & ‘praxis’ (an expensive word at $14 apiece) and makes viewers of it (some of them anyway) think cogently of what it means to live in this city with or without a growing family, next to deer, brush, concrete, and sprawl, and under a roof whose style rain just loves to ridicule. Now I’m $14 short.

i think this video being cgi is an inaccurate representative of the feeling this house has. i recommend watching the video with still images the Eames couple made themselves. that makes it really feel like a home and not some generic box
