A very effective video. After a year of noodling, I've made a commitment to be more serious. I followed many of your sightreading videos and noticed a YUGE improvement, just like you promised. This was a perfect complement to that process. You have a way of communicating complex ideas into simple steps. Merci beaucoup.

I've played guitar for a long time. Mostly hard rock and metal. I've been trying to expand into sevenths a little. And I'm hoping to get a keyboard. So I can start to work with intervals and really get some nice pure tones. And read for piano. Thank you for the help!

Definitely going to practice this a lot. Always wondered how people had a natural ear, didn't know you could train for it. I'm working on your academy, but slowly since never had music lessons of any kind and just learning to play keyboard as a senior. Love your videos and easy way of explaining things. I get anxious to learn more, probably too fast but want to know it all right away because I'm 72 now. Ha

@somanybeats - I think he meant "a" as in the article "a/an". Definitely a CMaj7.

In the harmonic minor the seventh degree is raised, does this effectively change the key signature of a piece -or- how would you know if a piece in a minor key was natural minor or harmonic minor
@LessonsOnTheWeb6 жыл бұрын
Hey Terry. Great Question. The raised seventh degree in harmonic minor will NOT appear in the key signature but instead appear as an accidental in the middle of the piece where the 7th note appears. If you don't see the 7th scale note raised as an accidental, the piece is probably in natural minor. If you see a lot of accidentals where the 7th note occurs, you are probably in harmonic minor.

Really loved the video... but one thing that really bothered me. This is a video about training your ears, please disable the background music while you are playing then. It is like learning to meditate next to a jackhammer. :D
