For me augmented is very startling, like an immediate jump scare, while diminished is like something is chasing you and you're anticipating the jump scare. Hope this helps anyone

14:08 - I always think of the Aug chord as 'soaring' or 'uplifting', especially when following its parallel major. Think of the ending of "Let There be Peace on Earth" (@ 01:23 ) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/nYq6lmekd7WepKs Also the refrain from "Oh, Canada" (@ 1:03) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYOzeIN3o7WBl5o

thank you so much - just a thought - if you could take a few seconds at the end of each "short" chord lesson to play/demonstrate/review what you talked about before moving on that would be amazing. keep up the great work and thank you!

What you said was totally true😨when i hear for too long, i will mix up these chords
@loot64 жыл бұрын
The problem is you can't recognise chords individually since they sound different in the middle of an actual chord progression. They won't have the sad or happy feel during a progression, they will have a certain feeling due to the progression itself.

luckily this is good enough for my music theory 1 LMAO
@fiscaldisco52342 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can think of so many songs moments that sound really sad with major chords. I never thought it was helpful to think of them as happy/sad. I think of them as rising/sinking. Which makes sense because you’re actually gauging if the third is major or minor

I can't for the life of me hear the difference between "mysterious vs darker" sound. But I just found the secret to hearing the difference. I can hear single notes just fine but not in a chord because my brain just meshes them together to one sound. However I am able to hear the lowest note and the highest note in the chord if I focus really hard. Since I know a dimished chord is 3-3 (3 half steps from the first note and 3 half steps from the second note) and an augmented chord is 3-4, I can just sing the half steps up and find out if the highest note is 3 or 4 half steps from the middle. (only works if u can sing in tune haha) this works so far with triads but i might run into problems when I start trying to hear inversions

It may be easier for beginners who may be struggling to compare the 4 chords in the same key in the beginning. The different keys convey different subtle shades of emotion. This is what I have observed during this lesson

LessonsOnTheWeb Not quite. I was looking at this exercise: www.teoria.com/en/exercises/ne.php and got completely stumped. I found memorising patterns on sheet music trivial but I can't memorise what they sound like for some reason. For example, in this video I was able to follow which 'flavors' of chords you were playing quite easily without looking (so clearly I'm able to hear the difference in interval frequencies) but being able to tell individual notes apart would be really helpful. Thanks!
