I heart "Bishop" Earl!!!! LOL, I'm becoming a groupie, I think, this man's story, his complete humbleness, the love he has for the deceived LDS people...Brother Earl, you're a rock star for Jesus, I appreciate all of your work and efforts in the Father's name, to pull the veil from the LDS eyes. I can't wait to have a good chat with you and Karla someday, either here or in heaven. God Bless Earl and Karla! Love y'all!!!!

I grew up a Mormon, loved being in the church, and every time I heard bits of history that didn't make sense, I'd sweep it under the rug. It became so bumpy, I had to fling it back to see what I really believed. What toppled the pile, just as Bishop Earl said, was the Book of Abraham that Joseph translated pagan funeral writings into the Pearl of Great Price, originals found in the Metropolitan Museum, not burned up in the Chicago fire. All the other questions under that rug started me on a path to find other church history that was glossed over. I began to realize the true church is Christ not an organization. I'm 68 and have been out of the Church 25 years and am so grateful that I searched facts and wasn't just content to feel the church was true.

James please stay close to the prophet. The Book of Mormon is true . My cousin Earl requested a priesthood blessing when he went through a heart problem and he was held but he discounts that. He should have know Jesus if he truly read , prayed and served the Savior. It is replete with Jesus the savior of the world. I know Joseph was the true Prophet of the restoration. Cling tight and hold onto the rod.

Correct! This verse disturbed me so much on my mission that I told my companion I couldn't go work. I got down on my knees and begged God for understanding. I received a very direct and powerful answer: "Keep reading!" The next 5 verses didn't help, but then I read Jacob 2:30. God increases His church through missionary work, and by "raising up seed" or by having faithful members have more children. The standard law is one wife and one wife only, but He can "command his people" when necessary.

Jesus used the same phrase “I AM” in seven declarations about Himself. In all seven, He combines I AM with tremendous metaphors which express His saving relationship toward the world. All appear in the book of John. They are: I AM the Bread of Life (John 6:35, 1, 48, 51); I AM the Light of the World (John 8:12); I AM the Door of the Sheep (John 10:7,9); I AM the Good Shepherd (John 10:11, 14); I AM the Resurrection and the Life (John 11:25); I AM the Way, the Truth and the Life

- "May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world." (Gal 6,14) - Christ "canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross." (Colossians 2,14) - Christ "reconciled (us) to God through the cross" (Eph 2,16) - "For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel-not with wisdom and eloquence, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God." (1 Cor 1,17-18)

If one does study mormonism...they surely will come out of the church. But to study, one needs to be ready to learn and discern truth. LDS people in general, are wonderful people. But, they are deceived. So deceived, they don't even dare to study because they fear (and have been taught) they'll lose their eternal life if they do so. They cannot question. Very sad indeed.

Those that still watch this please know that until the Holy Ghost reveals to me something different I WIll still hold to the rod of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. It is the rock cut out of the mountain without hands that will fill the whole earth and will stand forever. Where will we stand ? That is the question. And if we go where will we go. Stand faithful and be not moved. The mist of darkness will come but rest assured God will not fail you. Like Jacob be unshaken.

Never once in my active 50+ years as an LDS member did I ever hear a talk or lesson in church that dealt with "false prophets, false Christs or false teachers", and what exactly constitutes a false prophet/christ/teacher as compared to a TRUE Prophet, TRUE Christ and TRUE teacher. I often wondered if it wasn't purposely avoided because LDS leaders didn't want members to apply those comparisons to LDS prophets, christ OR teachers--which it WOULD do--at least for the astute thinkers among them.

Dear BlueBell, When I had lunch with Earl, and when we began emailing, we had no contention at all. In fact, it was all warm and friendly and rather than argue, I told him I was impressed with his research and respected him for not leaving Mormonism on a whim. I did answer some of his charges, but I was careful to be tactful. I was surprised that he had no comeback, but didn't laugh or mock him for being left without words.
@BlueBell221
@BlueBell221 10 жыл бұрын
You had no contention at all? Your reply on this page says, "We exchanged emails, but he had trouble defending his views in the light of deeper and clearer evidence in favor of Mormonism. His email responses soon fizzled out and I was left wondering about his honesty and sincerity. His nice smile doesn't quite compensate for his unwillingness or inability to defend his views." When a person does not agree that there is evidence in favor of Mormonism (as you put it) there is going to be a spirit of contention. You were left, as you said, "wondering about his honesty and sincerity" and "His nice smile doesn't quite compensate for his unwillingness or inability to defend his views." hmmm, The Spirit tells me that assuming a person is not honest or sincere is likely to bring a spirit of contention to some degree or other. This is the usual likelihood of events to transpire. See? Now, do you believe that God is omniscient? Why then would God not have known that you would have a response that sounds like contention? You wrote it, but God knew where it was going before you replied just now, and that is why it was stopped at that time. :) You do not recognize a spirit of unpleasantness when you post the words? Just like if I tell you that I don't believe you are being led by truth, but rather by deception, it is my truth and also could very well produce a contention; as evidenced by Core's response below. Do you both not see and comprehend this? I don't have interest in contention, and so the fine line is walked between me standing up for my truth vs not wishing to be engaged in what will very likely become contention - as displayed by your words that you didn't laugh or mock him but because he's not willing to engage further he is now not sincere and honest. Basically saying the man is two-faced with a nice smile but nothing to back it up. Now, come on, can't you see the potential for contention rising up in that? I can. for example, your fellow member, Core, says I'm hypocritical when I say mormonism isn't my truth nor do I embrace it? What part of contention do you not see this as? Yes, most certainly, God would know this in omniscience and quite often leads us away from a confrontation that will go no where positive. That's all I was saying. :) All the best to you; in truth may we walk. (now, I will definitely no longer respond at the risk of having a less-than-spirit filled discussion about what I perceive truth to be vs what you do; at the risk of breeding some further contention.) Good day.

KEVIN, SORRY FOR THE CAPS, MY EYESIGHT IS BAD. BLESS, YOUR HEART. I WAS RAISED IN A CHURCH THAT USED OTHER BOOKS BESIDES THE BIBLE, SO I U-STAND HOW YOU FEEL. ONE DAY I PUT ALL OTHER BOOKS ASIDE AND STARTED READING THE BIBLE. THE VERSE THAT ALWAYS STOOD OUT TO ME WAS JOHN 14:6 JESUS SAID: "I AM THE WAY, THE TRUTH, AND THE LIFE, NO ONE CAN COME TO THE FATHER EXCEPT THROUGH ME". THIS VERSE INTRIGUED ME, SO I CONTINUED TO READ THE WORD WHEN I REACHED THE BOOK OF ROMANS, I READ IT SLOW AND METHODICALLY, THIS IS WHEN I REALIZED THAT THERE WAS NOT ONE THING I COULD DO TO SAVE MYSELF, NO WORKS, I COULD NEVER BE GOOD ENOUGH TO ENTER HEAVEN ON MY OWN MERIT OR CEREMONIAL WORSHIP. THEN I THOUGHT IF THIS IS TRUE THEN THE LORD DIED ON THE CROSS FOR MY SINS. IF HE DIED FOR MY SINS BUT I STILL HAD TO FOLLOW THE RULE OF GOOD WORKS THEN HIS DEATH WAS POINTLESS. I CONTINUED TO READ, AND READ 1ST JOHN, MY EYES WERE OPENED MORE AND MORE. I WAS LED TO JOHN 3:3, AND REALIZED I HAD TO BE BORN AGAIN, NOT BY BAPTISM BUT BY THE SPIRIT OF GOD. I AM NOW A BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN (JOHN 3:3) AND MY LIFE IS FULL OF LOVE AND THE CHAINS OF BONDAGE HAVE BEEN REMOVED. BLESSINGS, TERESA

Don't see your name here so ill just use what i see...Conley: Your comment about "becoming a disbeliever of all religions" catches my attention. I am reminded of published thoughts of both Josh McDowell and Lee Strobel. Both of these guys, from different upbringings and timeframes, ended up proclaiming to be atheist at different times of their individual lives. They both set out to prove God never existed. McDowell's book: Evidence that Demands a Verdict, and Strobel's book: A Case for Christ, share evidence of both of them seeing the Bible as true. I will be praying for you and asking God to reveal himself to you and that 2019 will become a new vibrant journey in your walk with Jesus Christ and that you will begin to follow him more closely than ever before. Blessings, Jim

Many Mormons go on this path, I was an atheist initially after I left Mormonism. However, there is truth, don't lump the Bible itself in with the teachings of the LDS church. If you study the Bible, you will find much of what the church taught you is the complete opposite of what the Bible teaches you. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. (Psalm 34:18). I hope you seek God, if you are ever in a state of brokenness or apathy. For by grace are ye saved through faith (In Christ); and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast (Ephesians 2:8-9).

In a letter to the church at Colossae, the Apostle Paul gave an intriguing description of Jesus. In it, he explained Christ's relationship to God the Father and to creation. Some have claimed that Paul’s description of Christ as the first-born of creation means that Jesus was created -- not eternal, not God. Such a doctrine, however, conflicts with the rest of the Bible. Christ could not be both Creator and created; John 1 clearly names Him Creator. (next)

@ Core and @ Allen Richardson Whyever would you assume that if a person doesn't want to engage in an on-going debate that they aren't honest or sincere or has an inability to defend their views? This type of comment makes no sense and lacks a willingness for truth. Personally when I encounter someone who is evidently and resoundly set upon their own path, I leave them to their own path, because time has shown that it is not productive to argue with a person. It stirs up contention. Instead, after realizing that a person is intent on arguing while simultaneously making little to no sense, I pray for them that they might sincerely want to understand the truth so they can be open and God Spirit can step in to teach them through the power of wisdom and truth. I pray the same for you two. It means that I don't want to engage in a fight with a person. If a person sufficiently becomes humble enough to open to a conversation then I might consider. Neither of you two have shown that ability, therefore I would do EXACTLY as Earl has done. As a matter of fact, that is the response that the Christ has revealed I should take; so it makes sense for me to suspect that this is very likely the same response given to Earl. Then I part the communication by offering data that clearly and concisely cuts through the layers of deception prevalent within mormonism by sharing the CES letter written by Jeremy Runnels. cesletter.com/ and the fraud charge court case in the United Kingdom www.mormonthink.com/monson-summons.htm Blessings to you both and may you walk in peace In Jesus.

The links you post are anti sites. And you say we should allow others to choose their own path, yet you are hypocritical because I say the same thing to the anti-Mormons. If they don't like the LDS church, that's fine, but they should not try to pull everyone else down.
@BlueBell221
@BlueBell221 10 жыл бұрын
mormonthink website is not an anti-mormon site. It offers information that has both sides of the debate and you can see for yourself that they show both sides of the discussion - mormon pros and cons. The same applies with the CES Fair-mormon rebuttal website... it is not anti-mormon, it is offering information right out of the mormon church journals plus cognitive discovery. It's just that it is presenting ALL the information as opposed to the church lessons leaving out certain details. Yes, we all have our own journey in life. Mine is open to truth and in doing so I have recognized deception behind Mormonism. Mormonism is your journey in life apparently. I wish you well on yours. I did say that I would leave a person to their path because history has shown that they are not ready....that I would pray for God to open their spirit to truth and understanding. This God would do, but many times it's not for me to do unless directed by Spirit. You are confusing this with some type of hypocritical thing you claim I have. I am not anti-mormon - I am pro-truth. You think that anyone who doesn't agree with you is anti? Just because I do not see truth in your beliefs doesn't mean that you are not entitled to them - apparently you are since it is a free country. I do not have to agree with them - and I do not and have said so. It doesn't mean I enjoy living in a world with such deception in the name of God/Truth and religion. I only wish I lived in a world where there was more integrity in religion, for example mormonism, but alas, there currently is not. I accept that and I also celebrate that men like Tom Phillips can bring truth to a world where it is much needed. Understand? all the best to you Core.

Dennis, yes, Mormons are the best people I know. And although I have left, oddly I don't want my LDS friends to leave. However, believe it or not, we can leave the Church and leave it alone. It may be affirming to you to believe otherwise. I am NOT angry at the church. I still root for the BYU Cougars. I did not leave because I took offense. I left because the contradictions, and the lame attempts to explain them, became too great. That's the reason.

The first-born possessed the inheritance and leadership...Therefore, the phrase expresses Christ's sovereignty over creation. After resurrecting Jesus from the dead, God gave Him authority over the Earth (Matthew 28:18). Jesus created the world, saved the world, and rules the world. He is the self-existent, acknowledged Head of creation...Finally, the phrase recognizes Him as the Messiah: "I will make Him (Christ) My first-born, higher than the kings of the earth" (Psalm 89:27)..

No, I don't believe in modern prophets. The Bible tells us plainly that Jesus is the last prophet/High Priest. Oh of course you do. But studying only what you are told to is subjective. Objective study means looking honestly and considering every aspect with an open mind. Mormonism teaches closed minded and shielded study - church approved material of course. Those like Earl and many others who were high up in the church have been shunned by the leaders. And you are instructed to never listen to what they have to say. Lest your eyes shall open and see truth for what it truly is.

Nathan, I commend you for your faithfulness to your beliefs. Take a look at Isaiah 43:10-11. Read the words for what they say. Don't try to "interpret" them. Mormonism teaches there are many gods, and that YOU may become a god. Please ponder this my brother. He is waiting for you. :)

The violent response of the Jews to Jesus’ “I AM” statement indicates they clearly understood what He was declaring-that He was the eternal, incarnate God. Jesus was equating Himself with the "I AM" title God gave Himself in Exodus 3:14... If Jesus had merely wanted to say He existed before Abraham’s time, He would have said, “Before Abraham, I was.” The Greek words translated “was” in the case of Abraham, and “am” in the case of Jesus, are quite different. The words chosen by the Spirit make it

Every edition of the book of Mormon that I have examined, the original 1830 edition, and even the newest 2013 edition (came out Friday), they all explain why polygamy was started, it's purpose, and when it would be stopped. The wording in this verse is exactly the same between all editions, so if the Lord explained polygamy in 1830, and it was practiced biblically in Old Testament times, why is this a problem? It's a law of God, and the Book of Mormon explains exactly why it is practiced.

Polygamy is never commanded by God in the Bible. No where can you find where God made polygamy a law in the Bible. Polygamy was something done by men.

It is problematic due to Joseph Smith practicing polygamy before he (allegedly) had a revelation. And he practiced it in secret and lied about it. The church had to pass 2 manifestos to end the practice which had become unlawful... two!!. Any other modern day cult leader who practiced the same principles (*invoking Gods commandment), would be, by your standards, deceitful and fraudulent. Joseph Smith, for some incredulous irrational reasoning, gets a pass and is excused.

Clarifying meaning in the text through minor word revisions (and only a few of those) by Joseph himself... is not the smoking gun Earl claims. The Bible texts have been revised, edited, and updated numerous times...that's why there are so many different translations! Recently a passage in Matthew has been revised in new translations! Also, Earl is very mistaken in saying the translation process was "word for word". That is not the claim of Joseph Smith, or the church. It's also patently false that a person cannot ask questions.

OK, I'll bite; how 'bout how they changed the Nature of God from being ONE God, to three? How 'bout how they changed Adam from being formed by God "from the dust of the Earth", and Eve from being formed from one of Adam's ribs...to being "Spirit children" who came to earth to "receive a body". How about how they changed God from being from "everlasting to everlasting", to a god resulting from "progression" in mormonism? And, where is the lake of fire in lds. Please, answer these questions.

if this is a true Mormon doctrine, than what's the point of this life "test" that we all live if we can just screw off and do all the works in the afterlife with all knowledge available. why do we need faith or any works to be save if it can all be done after the fact. also don't you have to be wed in the temple and hold the priesthood to make it to the celestial kingdom, these do require church membership to attain.

The scandal of religions all led by men and with double standards : women's issues are neither heard nor dealt with in fairness, requesting the virginity and complete fidelity of women and not of men puts women in the most unbalanced, abusive and risky situation there is and is absolutely counter productive when it comes to the protection of women health, safety, prosperity and survival. So as I said in a previous post, unless we are safe in marriage and have equal rights and same rules apply to both for the the safety and serenity of marriage, we will abstain from marriage or anything that endangers our lives and future.

Second, in the Sermon on the Mount, given at the END of his life, Jesus Christ warns against false prophets, but spends the next five verses giving us the way to distinguish between true prophets and false prophets. Jesus Christ NEVER would have done this if there were to be no TRUE prophets! He would have said, "Beware of all prophets, for I am the last!" So where are the true prophets?

The description "first-born of all creation" speaks of Christ’s preexistence. He is not a creature but the eternal Creator (John 1:10). God created the world through Christ and redeemed the world through Christ (Hebrews 1:2-4)....Jesus is called the first-born, not the first-created. The word "first-born" (Greek word "prototokos") signifies priority. In the culture of the Ancient Near East, the first-born was not necessarily the oldest child. First-born referred not to birth order but to rank.

Does Earl realize that the changes he was so worried about were actually made to bring the Book back into line with the original manuscript? Look at the printer's manuscript and you will see it's more in line with the current version than the 1830. Jesus is God. We believe in God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. He the Son because he came to the earth in flesh. He is the God of earth as he created the earth.

Stephen Self but, if the Book of Mormon was translated letter by letter using the seer stone. And the letters only disappeared when the scribe wrote them down correctly, then any changes (all 3800 of them) made is questionable. If the Book of Mormon 1830 edition is the only correct book on earth has 3800 changes, then it can’t be from God. Joseph Smith isn’t a Prophet and the LDS Church crumbles.

3 Ne 27 [16] And it shall come to pass, that whoso repenteth and is baptized in my name shall be filled; and if he endureth to the end, behold, him will I hold guiltless before my Father at that day when I shall stand to judge the world. [17] And he that endureth not unto the end, the same is he that is also hewn down and cast into the fire, from whence they can no more return, because of the justice of the Father. [18] And this is the word which he hath given unto the children of men. And for this cause he fulfilleth the words which he hath given, and he lieth not, but fulfilleth all his words. [19] And no unclean thing can enter into his kingdom; therefore nothing entereth into his rest save it be those who have washed their garments in my blood, because of their faith, and the repentance of all their sins, and their faithfulness unto the end. [20] Now this is the commandment: Repent, all ye ends of the earth, and come unto me and be baptized in my name, that ye may be sanctified by the reception of the Holy Ghost, that ye may stand spotless before me at the last day. [21] Verily, verily, I say unto you, THIS IS MY GOSPEL The Book of Mormon contains the fullness of the gospel, but not all the doctrines and ordinances, the mysteries of God being withheld from the world. That is why we have a living prophet and modern revelation.

Jesus would NEVER give us a commandment that we can't fulfill. Matthew 5:48. We can become perfect like our Father in Heaven is perfect. But part of that is faith in Jesus Christ, the resurrection, repentance, and obedience to His commandments. Christ condemned those who praise Jesus, do everything in his name, but do not obey Him in the conclusion of the sermon on the mount. I don't want to argue. We will be judged mostly for how we live, and our faith in Christ, not for what church we attend.

Six times the Lord Jesus is declared to be the first-born of God ( Romans 8:29; Colossians 1:15, 18; Hebrews 1:6; 12:23; Revelation 1:5). These passages declare the preexistence, the sovereignty, and the redemption that Christ offers. Thus, the phrase "first-born of all creation" proclaims Christ’s preeminence. As the eternal Son of God, He created the universe. He is the Ruler of creation..,,

Comment: Mainstream Religion and Child Marriage in the US When we think of families, no one would imagine that pedophiles and rapists could legally marry children, especially girls as young as 16, 12 or 10 years of age. In the US however there is no federal law that prohibits child marriage. Such regulations are governed under States’ Rights. Delaware, Minnesota, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island and Pennsylvania are the only six states that prohibit child marriage without ‘exceptions’ (i.e. parental permissions). In 20 US states there is no definitive legal age limit for marriage (with parental consent). Unchained At Last reported that 300,000 such marriages have taken place in the past 20 years. Such marriage laws serve as a legal buffer in protecting pedophiles and rapists from prosecution, while preventing child brides from filing the charge of rape, since they are under age legally. So, a man who has literally committed statutory rape is immune to prosecution once married to his victim. Unfortunately under such circumstances court Judges and even parents are eager to encourage (coerce) pregnant girls to marry their perpetrators. Unchained at Last and the Tahirih Justice Center conducted campaigns against child marriage, which has resulted in limited effect s in some states. One of the road blocks in some of the most offending states has been the resistance of conservative state law makers and Evangelical religious groups to ending child marriage.

They wish FLDS would "disappear" because they are embarassed, realizing that FLDS came FROM Mormonism, and they are doing all they can to eradicate FLDS from the face of the earth by reporting ANYONE practising polygamy to authorities--THEN proceed to pat themselves on the back for their "community service" in fighting polygamy. How soon Mormons forget THEY were in that very position just 100 years ago.
