Thanks for showing another great performance by Earl Grant on Ed’s show. He was a master on playing the organ as well as a brilliant singer. Have a great day!

I was same age - born in ‘54. I remember this too. I had no idea what Ebb Tide meant, but liked the song!

I was not yet a teen when this was aired. I would not have appreciated it then. I do now.

@@Powerfulchange712 Yes indeed. I posted a recommendation for this video to your channel two times, on that Abbey Lane video, and thanked you for your response, but both times the post disappeared. I also recommended an Edie Gorme video on this channel.👍

JAW-DROPPING, TRANSFIXING VIRTUOSITY OF THE HIGHEST MAGNITUDE!💯 Zoom in on those enormous hands!😮 I have googled in vain for info on just how large they were. Earl also played the trumpet and drums, and of course the piano. He holds the attendance record for "a one-man show" at New York City's renowned "Copacabana" nightclub, (named after a Brazilian beach.) It still exists but has relocated numerous times. Count Basie called Earl Grant "the greatest show-stealer" he had ever seen. His tragic early death at age 39 in a one car "rollover" car accident, that also killed a 17 year old passenger who was Earl's cousin, stands out as one of the most hideous and costly blows to the world of musical art that the world has ever seen, including the deaths of Karen Carpenter, Rick Nelson, Jim Reeves, Buddy Holly, Mario Lanza, Hank Williams, Sam Cooke, Elvis Presley, Marvin Gaye, Patsy Cline, Glen Miller, Jimi Hendrix, Jackie Wilson, John Lennon, Nat "king" Cole and Otis Redding.😢

Hammond B3 organ. Jimmy Smith's only competition on the instrument was Earl Grant and a few others if they were playing jazz.
