Russian billiard WC-2005 Moscow.
Rules: Once the pyramid is split cue, you can choose as a cue ball any ball. Counted as a hit in the pocket an object ball and cue ball (but always after a collision with the object ball)
Winning is the player who scored the first eight balls.

I am a massive fan of cue sports! Even this Russian billiards video I enjoyed. I couldn't understand a word the commentators were saying! This video was really fun. I enjoyed it. Those pockets are really tiny though! Well compared to our snooker/pool tables in England. Pure skill!
@davezanko9051
@davezanko9051 2 жыл бұрын
The pockets are actually the same size as snooker ones (the tables are identical for all intents and purposes). It's the fact that the balls are the largest in modern cue sports, at 68 mm diameter, much larger than the 52.5 mm of snooker balls, the 57.2 mm of pool balls, and the 61.5 mm of carom billiards. Trying to sink the largest balls in the smallest regulation pockets makes for a rather difficult game, despite the free form nature of which ball is the cue ball and the ability to score on both a direct shot or an in-off carom.
@AngrierGorilla
@AngrierGorilla 2 жыл бұрын
@@davezanko9051 in Russian Pyramid the cut of the pockets is obviously very different from snooker. As you can see the inner face of the pockets is flat, whereas in snooker you have rounded jaws. Even about the size I don't think you're right. Russan Pyramid pockets should be 71 mm (3 mm more than balls diameter), snooker pockets should be around 86 mm (with balls of 52.5 mm diameter) The only thing in common is the table size, which is 12 ft for both.

Compression work with pyramids because of how much heavier and larger the balls in this game are. The Corner pockets in pyramid are only 72mm across, with balls that are 68mm across. The middle pockets are slightly wider at 82mm, but most balls would just bounce off the pocket at even the slightest of angles.

@@AngrierGorilla, Free Pyramid is the easiest type of Russian Pyramid, when it becomes easy for you, you can make it harder by limiting the options. Only one ball can be used as the cue ball, one pocket, opponent calls the pocket etc. The game complexity is infinite.

In the core his shots were greatly played, but he had no patience in his actions, and it is punished by frequent misses (unless you are a D.Belozerov or A.Palamar' xD). there are many russian pyramid games. this one we call free pyramid, you can scratch and hit any ball with any ball, and the point of this game is to get 8 points first to win a frame(there is 15 balls in the rack) . it is the easiest discipline of all ru. billiard games.other games you have to play only with one cueball(red or yeallow color) and thats where scratch shot comes in most plays.without mastering it you will not be able to be good at russian biliards. scratch shot is main shot in russian pyramid games. hope this make some clearer

@AllThisOverASliceOfGabagool

I think Russian Pyramid does have its benefits. Not only are you trying to manufacture scratches often using lots of side to make the pocket take the ball, but you are trying to control the ball not being pocketed into a better position. All on 12x6ft tables, with balls that are 67mm. This is a fantastic game in it's own right. It's too different to try and compare this to pool or snooker.

It looks like the Russian smashes the OB into the corner pockets with great force, sometimes even when shooting a carom; later Earl starts to do this also. Is this a pro technique in Russian Pyramid, sending the ball into the corner pocket (side pockets also) with speed in order to force it past the pocket tits? This is a good match to watch, but in the game before the one Earl won he eased up and failed to pocket the last ball of what should have been a 8-and-out run. Then the Russian showed him how to run 8-out, and Earl missed his chance to get back into the match at 1 game to 3, instead going 0-4. In a later game the Russian did the same thing - he let up on his 8th ball and let Earl have a small chance at a comeback, but not much of a chance with the way the balls were sitting. Good for the video, I suppose, keeping the other guy in the game...
@giedriusledas670
@giedriusledas670 9 жыл бұрын
In Russian billiards, the pockets are extremely tight, so hitting the ball hard increases the chance that the ball will force itself into the pocket through the cushions. This is not always the case, however, and in some cases spin on the cue or object ball is used to spin the ball into the pocket (these are usually shots that are close to the rail). It all depends on the situation, but yes, in general, if you hit it hard, while also being accurate, there is a greater chance of pocketing the ball.

This is why American pool players have no success in Russian Pyramid or Snooker. American pool games have their difficult facets such as cue ball control, but potting is a million times easier, you have a huge margin for error on a American pool table. In snooker and Russian pyramid you don't have that, the latter especially. If the ball isn't hit right into the centre of the pocket it doesn't go in. Earl just couldn't adjust to that when he's used to playing on tables where the object ball can hit cushion before the pocket and still go in,

after all these years, i have found the reason why this discussion lives.. it's because the only people who care are not good at any of these games, they just care about some sort of proxy nationalistic pride. bigotry. i play both pool and snooker and it's clear how they differ. and my thoughts dont devolve into equating the table length to my dick. plus, he holds out pretty well. he obviously can't compete with someone who plays this more than him. and if he won, you'd probably jump off the russian pyramid high horse and say the balls are too big compared to snooker or some bs

The difficulty in American pool is cueball control. If all we had to do was focus on making the ball then yes the game would be way easier than RB and Snooker. The fact is when you combine the two, shot making becomes a lot more difficult. Combine that with having only one ball to shoot at in rotation games or one pocket to shoot at in 1 pocket. If you lose the cue ball you're done at the pro level. I've said it before and I'll say it again. If our game was so easy then the Snooker and RB players would have dominated the IPT but they didn't. All billiard games are hard in their own ways and none are superior to the other.
