My washer broke (and, generally, so am I) so, until I could purchase a replacement, I used a 5-gallon plastic bucket and a (brand new) *toilet plunger* to wash my clothes. Some hot water, a bit of soap and then, plunger your clothes up and down. Rinse and repeat. Worked quite well, and saved my hands from the boiling water.

Amidst this mesmerizing choreography, a dynamic current of unrestrained energy surges through the narrowboat's very core, mingling with the pulsating waves undulating within. And then, as if a theatrical crescendo were to be unveiled, she tugs on the chain of the stopper with a graceful force, liberating a tidal wave of swill that swirls down the drain, finding its rightful place within the waiting embrace of the canal beneath her hull.

IMO, bilges should be clean and dry, save for condensation. If you can’t “nail” a leak yourself, like it’s obvious where it’s coming from, then it should be investigated professionally and put right. It’s a bit like running a car on bald tyres with a slow puncture! 😮

BTDT. May I suggest you use a smaller volume wash tub? Soaking is likely more beneficial to clean clothing than the scrub board. Use soap. I you really need it, use detergent. Stains, and w/e you'd use chlorine bleach to remedy will likely be improved by hydrogen peroxide. Woman, you've made a great lifestyle! May I just say (no offense intended) you may want to moderate the carbohydrate in your diet. Ale, cider, chips, the Midlands Stodge in general, pastry... sugar... Some of us recall your bikini photos when you were crew aboard SV Delos. Lord, woman! You're in England! You have the best lamb and butter in the world! Plus tench, bream, even carp if you treat it correctly), just outside your door. Take the lifestyle right up, then. More viewers.
