Sadhu sadhu. I am studying Indology and Early Buddhism in the university and this clip is very useful for me either for reminding me the thing I have learnt and for particing my English listening skill because Ajarn's pronounciation is very clear and not that fast to catch the words. ❤

Ajahn Punnadhammo. Fascinating. I've been a student of history of the Eurasian area but in the more recent centuries during the time of The Great Game. So a lot of my time has been spent in studying history as related to Geo-politics. Which has quite literally worn me out given the current social upheaval and the beating of the cyclical drums of war once again. I've turned my back on the mundane world and now dedicate my time to Dhamma study and meditation as laity. But the history of this region (Central and Southeast Asia) during the Buddha's time is very interesting. It helps to put his life and his teaching into historic and cultural perspective. I enjoyed the talk very much and will be coming back for more. สาธุๆ

A very good book, based on the early teachings, is The Historical Buddha, the Times, Life and Teachings of the Founder of Buddhism, written by H.W. Schumann.

Mahavira and Makkhali Gosala were contemporaries of Gautama Buddha as both were active during fifth century BC and were present in the greater Magadh area. They were central figures of Jainism and Ajivikas. I was expecting some reference of them.

Thank you sir, I wish you go through the latest historical, archaeological and linguistic history of ancient India by some scholars and Buddhist enthusiastic found that written history of ancient Indian is absolutely false . (Aryan cannot be placed before buddhas time). The placement of Aryans at 1500 bc has no archaeological evidence till date, this is mearly done of paper by historians. Please apologize me, for this submission. With love..

Buddha is a aryan pali is a indo aryan language . Buddhists also worship sakra ,mahabrahma they both are hindu gods . Dravidians are not buddhists . Dravidians are shavites (they are worshipers of shiva )
@Anshulhe
@Anshulhe 2 жыл бұрын
Not true both aryan and dravidian are linguistic terms not racial. All people of India fall under same race category and Buddha is probably no different he never spoke pali as pali is not vernacular language. Coming to Buddhist Philosophy people says it's non aryan because it's not vedic more indic in thought and way coming all the way from Indus valley traditions and philosophies which are not aryan. Even Hindu samkya and vedanta are for namesake vedic but those philosophies are rooted in native Indus valley religion and beliefs. Coming to dravdian speakers they played dominant role in all religions, whether it's Mahayana Buddhism which started out of andhra or some of main sects of Jainism were all developed out of South also advaita philosophy, dvaita, Vaishnavism, shaivism, bhakti cult were are all also started out of South.

Samkhya is not a Hindu philosophy as it doesn't believe in god or vedas but unfortunately Indian scholars count it in Hindu philosophy even though it is a Nastik darshan. Samkhya is the foundation of Shraman traditions which were later hijacked by Brahmins. You being a Jain should be ashamed of promoting Brahmanism as your ancestors were nastiks and were the biggest critics of Brahmanism.
@kbgirel6965
@kbgirel6965 2 жыл бұрын
@@jattadeputt9880 you are right Brahmins also started to become Shramans, shiva was shriman god since long time but later they adopted as one of the Hindu gods Meditating in solitude was a shraman tradition so initially Lord Buddha also did that but later he became an enlightened and his teachings become Buddhisms of today
