My health is detoriating fast and cant absorb anything and digest food at all alongside IBS, SIBO, Hpylori, anemia, nutritional deficiencies, extreme fatigue, bone joint pain, heart paltipations, hair not growing, bad teeth, brittle bones aging so fast in mid 20s. This has been going on for 3 years and feel like it could be celiac! :/

I have had all the symptoms, and am much better now that I'm on a (largely) gluten-free diet, yet my test for coeliac disease came up negative. Does this mean I have non-coeliac gluten sensitivity?

Hi, if you were on a gluten free diet when being tested for coeliac disease this could result in a false negative result. More information on testing for coeliac disease is available on our website: www.coeliac.org.uk/coeliac-disease/getting-diagnosed/ Some people have gut symptoms when eating foods with ingredients containing gluten, ie wheat, barley and rye, even if they don’t have coeliac disease. This is sometimes called non coeliac gluten sensitivity: www.coeliac.org.uk/coeliac-disease/about-coeliac-disease-and-dermatitis-herpetiformis/gluten-sensitivity/ If you have further questions contact our Helpline on 0333 332 2033 (option 3).

Were you eating gluten when you got tested?

Bellaahah Hi, Yes, I went back on a gluten-rich diet for six weeks before being tested for coeliac, but the test was negative.

HI, I'm interested to see these comments as my GP is wanting me to go back on to a gluten containing diet for a formal diagnosis (having had neurological symptoms and few gut symptoms since 2000). I am extremely reluctant to do so but my ferritin level is also now 18 and thats after 2 months of iron supplements (which have been stopped pending a referral for iron infusion).
