I've loved Class 37s ever since I first saw them in 1987 and I'm sure I always will love them.

Great vid, 5*. Every time I see a Tractor starting from cold like this, I can't help but wonder just how much oil they use? And how long do they take to warm up and for the idle to settle down and the exhaust smoke to clear up to "normal". Anyone able to shed any light?

More than the fuel they use I think ;)

The tree huggers are all spaced out at this time of the morning. The trendy left wing students are not awake before midday. A great video.

Its just fuel vapour I believe, from cylinders that havent fully fired or have just warmed up the injected fuel. They rev up and down because the governor is controlled by engine oil pressure, when its cold its thick so it revs up and down.

when diesel was cheap or they didnt care they would avoid starting them up because they would already be running
@marshallman76086 жыл бұрын
Dunno about the modern stuff but the older diesels didn't have antifreeze in them. Had to be run one hour in four below zero and continuously under minus four. Don't quote me on the temperatures, it was a good few years ago when I was on the footplate!

Spoken like someone who has no idea what they're talking about and just wants to sound like they really care. Do you know what really pollutes our atmosphere? Cars, trucks, and airplanes. What would be carrying all of the cargo this train can haul if it weren't around? Cars, trucks and, stay with me now, airplanes. This thing puts out way less pollution than the cars, trucks, and planes that would be required to do it's job.
