Based on comments here and on other channels, Emilia Perez is shaping out to be the "villain" of the season which makes me so happy because I loved the movie. In the past, I haven't enjoyed the villain films (Three Billboards, Green Book, Bohemian Rhapsody) but since I enjoyed Perez, I'm working on my villain laugh!

Don't forget David Lynch was also the sole nomination for Blue Velvet back in '87. I'd say Fargeat's got a chance from what you said. I'm thinking of Pawel Pawlikowski for Cold War and Bennett Miller for Foxcather being nominees even if their respective films were snubbed for Best Picture. I think they might go Audiard's way but I remember being shocked that the Directing Branch snubbed Greta Gerwig for Justine Triet, a move like that makes me think Fargeat may have a stronger shot than we think.

I’m calling it rn 1. Sean Baker - Anora 2. Brady Corbet - The Brutalist 3. Edward Berger - Conclave 4. Denis Villeneuve - Dune Part Two 5. Jacques Audiard - Emilia Perez I would love if Coralie Fargeat, Halina Reijn, or Jon M. Chu got in. I wouldn’t be suprised if Ridley Scott got in because he’s a big name director even though the movie is just fine.

I just want Denis Villeneuve to win Best Director. He deserves it for the masterpiece he made this year. The only real competition is Brady Corbet for The Brutalist. Sean Baker is good and should be nominated but the movie is stronger in Screenplay and Actress.

I'm amazed that when Dune Pt 2 came out, nearly every critic stated it changed cinema and is the best in a decade, but now, most people do not believe it will sweep, let alone get in most categories. "Nolan should thank Denis for not releasing in 2023, cause Dune 2 would sweep." Was a common phrase. And i don't think any film this year is better than Oppenheimer or Dune 2

I think denis is a lock for one of the spots and has been my prediction to win all year. He has the narrative and he is definitely the star of that film. Dune 2 was also such a cultural moment and was so well made that I think it gets in, especially since dune 1 got into best picture. I think Denis is a lock to win the category. That being said I’m praying for Sean Baker because I think he’s the most deserving and his movie is just so good. Plus the rest of his catalog tells you he is one of the best we got working right now. A director I think will last the test of time. So please give him his flowers and everything he deserves for Anora

I'm wondering if Denis could get snubbed and Berger ends up being the "blockbuster"/big named director that gets in instead - they snubbed him once, they can snub him again. The directors branch has proven they dgaf about big names and big-budget movies as evidenced by Gerwig's snub. Audiard could also miss like they snubbed Baz Luhrmann for Elvis since the reception has been similar. Nickel Boys is more polarizing than Zone of Interest but I think Ramell Ross' POV direction is up the directors' branch's alley so I still have him in as the Glazer of the group.

Here's my take. I think everyone is overestimating Edward Berger's chances. I think Conclave will do well, but I feel like he is going to miss. I think the Wicked hype is high. I predict that is going to get more nominations than anyone is expecting, and we are not going to see Berger there. We are going to see John Chu instead. That's not a personal pick by the way. I would rather see Fargeat or Eggers personally, but I think that's what's going to happen.
