Possible reason why the early pokemon centers were “hotels” RPGs traditionally use “hotels” or “inns” as healing/save states in the game (final fantasy, castlevania etc). It was likely a hotel function where you rent a room and sleep in the bed to heal until midway through development This would be supported by the healing bed in SS Anne and your home being a place to stay and rest
