Same dude. I was so hyped when i got 40 attack (with 1 str because i didn't know how to train it) and got 30k to buy a rune scimitar. I went to varrock west bank, and this dude sold me a damn noted bronze scimitar because i was too excited to pay attention. I stopped playing for a week, got back on, and got scammed for my account. "Did you know jagex doesn't let you say your password? ********* see!" Runescape taught me a lot about the world in a short period of time.

It wasn't though. Runescape was a different world back then, the community was like no other and it is possible that a similar community won't ever exist again. The social side of the game was what made it so fun. It was a genuine mmoRPG.

Children are still on the internet, but they have different games to go to, and the development team focuses on making the game work for the super addicts and tryhards. Which is fine, that's the current playerbase, but it's an unfriendly model to new players and especially to children.

My earliest memory is seeing my childhood friend playing Runescape and asking to try it out. I got to like 20 attack killing cows before I figured out you could switch attack styles. Then I ran towards Varrock, tried to grab a black wizard's hat and died. Nothing of value was lost, but my friend got pissed and didn't want me to touch his computer anymore. As for me, I remember trying to kill monks with mithril battleaxe (dealing 1 damage at a time), running to wilderness in full steel armour and dying to a guy in black armour... losing my battleaxe as well. I was truly heartbroken there.

I joined up as "Outkastman20" way back... Maybe... 2002, or 2003 ish. Never played OG Runescape. Even when I had Membership and they brought it back as "Runescape Classic". Heard about it from my friend down my street at the time. GE was literally the GOD SEND update imo. Massive QOL improvement. Then I became an adult, had to be an adult, the game got shelved until recently when I discovered OSRS Mobile. Had to make a new account though. Pretty sure my old one got deleted or probably hacked at some point being I couldn't log in. It's also possible I changed the name and password and totally forgot Either way, I'm glad I restarted, got to stat my character properly this time around, and hitting up them old quests felt really nostalgic, even if the game isn't EXACTLY the same as before. Despite the ups and downs, this game forever holds a place in my heart.

Im 33.. Started playin runescape when i was like 12 or 13.. I remember there was no membership... There was only 10 worlds.. No one had a 99 the closest person was bluerose13x at 98 smithing.. It was all 2D.. U could only fight in wild... And you couldnt see anyones level unless they were in the wild... No such thing as a pure... First to build pure was a dude named kappa who did it with 10 def.. 40 attack and 70-80str Game mechanics were.way different ... The game was actually playable... The trash they call "old school" runescape isnt old school.. And its no longer enjoyable

I remember hearing rumors about pmods being ruthless towards anyone mentioning other games (this is when WoW was releasing) and would mute anyone that said the name. I didn't believe the people running the game would be that big of assholes, and I was excited to get access to WoW and mentioned one time that I might not be on for a few days because of it to a friend in the area. Pmod saw it, said something along the lines of "you're done" and suddenly I couldnt enter chat anymore. This wasn't a temp mute, as far as I knew at the time, I'd never be able to chat normally within the game. That day I went to WoW for over 8 years. I just recently came back to RS3 over the course of this year. So far it's solid, but I'll always remember that dictator like attitude they demonstrated.

Honestly, the game now is worse then it was back in the day.. everything now is about being toxic and maxing xp and clicks. rather then actual adventure and having fun. Seems more like a single player game with other people roaming around.. the only way you interact with other players is the wilderness, and its dead and people call it “toxic”.
