The grand exchange has a limiter on how much item prices can swing day to day, and as a result isn't impacted by these short term "crashes" that you talk about, so naturally Jagex don't give a shit about a bug that only affects a third party site. If you're dumping an item at 10% below the shown GE value just because it's what GE tracker is showing you it is 100% your fault for putting so much trust in a demonstrably abuseable system whilst attempting to merch high ticket items that people will likely abuse.

Among old school players, it's well known that the GE can be rigged. Depending on the item, you may be able to rig the GE by yourself with just a few million gold. It helps to look at fairly high priced items that people use a lot, that aren't traded in high volumes, since they added the trade limit. If that sounds really niche, that's because it is. I'm talking about finding that one item that can actually be profitable if you just buy them all. I can't talk about mine, because it's a niche that's easy to ruin, but that's the general idea.

Almost like real markets opening of the day for promising stocks you’ll see about 3 climbs then crash/balance out for a day. Or like penny stocks people will trick you on a popular one by dumping an insane amount of money into and instantly selling it cause all you see is the graph and panic buy trying to get into it except you buying what the guy wants you to buy. I was able to move prices all by myself back in 2008's GE. I checked my log of transactions, totalled them up, and I was like 70% of the total volume for Flax, Bow Strings and Maple logs for one day. And I wasn't rich by the standards, but I had around 100M to work with, and played for about 20 hours that day. 8 GP doesn't sound like much profit, but when you are talking about many millions of items bought and sold, I probably profited about 5M per hour. I put the profits back into skills, with a bonus XP weekend coming up, I did crafting first with Air Battlestaves, then used the profits from that to buy herbs and seconds for the bonus weekend. So one player can manipulate the market, just tougher to do it with high value items than low value high volume items
@Thunder0wnsz4 жыл бұрын
As someone who flips items daily I love to see content like this. There have been multiple times where high value items have crashed at an instant and it just never made any sense. It’s not a bug lollllllllllll you’re talking about items with small daily traded volume and if you have the money you can definitely manipulate the market on those or rather if you have a merch clan. This shit happens in real life stocks too. You just have to pay attention cause they’ll bounce back to normal that’s something the osrs team has made sure of for the survival of the game/market. The price guide has to rely on the client. This can not be fixed. It has been a problem for years. You don't have to actually buy or sell anything. This will ALWAYS be possible with client manipulation.

Thanks for pointing it out. I don't know the specifics of how OSBuddy's API works but you're probably right. Too bad it's pretty hard to think of an easy way to fix this without Jagex's support. A few notes from someone who's been following this for years: 1. The selling to yourself method only works above the market price. Selling has no limit so if anyone tried to display DHCB selling for 64m they would actually have to clear all the buy offers down to that point, making a massive loss in the process. And the other thing about that is that OSB is supposed to filter those fake offers out anyway. 2. 99% of the time when this happens a lot of people on ge tracker jump on it and no one can buy any, usually you can catch some very close below market, but nowhere near low enough for this to be massively profitable. The only times it's been effective is when an item has been very unstable priror to it happening, probably because when an item is unstable only merchers are on it and they're the first to react. But still I have abused it during those times and I never got the feeling anything unnatural was happening other than the unpredictable panic selling, which again, usually wasn't even worth abusing. Conclusion: This is either a bug or whoever is doing this isn't making a lot of money off of it.
@Rabbi_Weasel4 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure I know how they do it. For a specific item such as the dragon hunter crossbow or lance, the price manipulator would need to collect a few of each and buy and sell those items to themselves for max cash. Formula would be ((Max cash - 1gp)/(#items - 1))=(item price), so that the last item would sell for 1gp to yourself and it would work because your offer should exactly match the sell offer.
@anomynus4 жыл бұрын
@@Rabbi_Weasel I've never thought of that but it definitely sounds possible. OSB says they block those trades from showing up but who knows.
@anomynus4 жыл бұрын
@@Rabbi_Weasel Actually nevermind, that wouldn't work. The sell offer has to be the same or below the price you want to buy at so in order for you to sell one item below market value you would need to sell ALL of your items below it. Meaning unless your 1 gp is the best offer you just sold your boots as it's a buy limit, not a sell limit. On the other hand if you sell you boots for 1b after reaching buy limit, nobody is offering that much so if you put in 1 b, you can "sell" the item to yourself. I only have about 160m so I have to sell and rebuy dragonhunter weapons when I want them I've done this multiple times over the qaurentine. I bet I'm not the only one who can't really afford them.

its people, or at least one of them, u dont manipulate prices you destroy demand by bot farming an item and then when profit < maxpossibleprofit then switch botfarm, and when i say bot farm I means (at least)20% of the player base most likely.

People hell stress out about the large items, the money is made on the small items like runes and ect, to Make runes crash is quite hard but it's possible, you try buy the mass amount off the botting accounts when they flood it for 50‰ of the price, dropping the Ge price for a few weeks and sell it back, you need up to 10 accounts buying for the same price at the same time and to sell Runes at the same time for the same price in a total of around 5b gp (5b ÷ 10 players =500m÷(78GP - 50‰)fire runes × thebuycap = total profit) per item you merch, this can take around 3 to 7 weeks to complete but it's free gp without playing.
@lonesomesoep90284 жыл бұрын
i never understood why somebody would panic sell their expensive item when the item is crashing. most likely its the item just fluctuating in price and it will rebound. someone explain me why people panic sell :P
@spicysalsaking7914 жыл бұрын
They're afraid that the item is only going to drop further, and ignorantly panic sell because they can't "afford" to wait the week or 3 months for the item to rebound, assuming it ever does. For example, when torture/anguishs reached ~18.4-18.5ish mil recently, and in just a few hours the OSB suggested price was down to like ~18-18.2mil, many players seemingly panic sold their zenyte items because pre-pandemic prices for such items was stable around ~15-15.75m. They tumbled down to around ~17.2-17.6m because of it, but within ~8-14 days they're back up to ~18.25-18.5m again.

I know people who do insider trading. But that's with resource items not big items.
@ethansmith85644 жыл бұрын
Pretty sure this is happening right now. Look at the price of spectral shield a week ago. usually an extremely stable item. Look at the dragon hunter lance today. Nothing explains these prices changes.
@spicysalsaking7914 жыл бұрын
Not that I know much about those two specific items, but in general the game economy has been quite unstable the last month or two, arguably due to IRL events. The black market value of OSRS gold has generally exploded upward as well.

@@spicysalsaking791 Yes but these trends track with events. Look at the very steep dip/spike for some items.

Even if its a bug on Jagex's end the reason they havent fixed it is because they dont use that data. OSBuddy does though. Classic Jagex
@XxOzzyBoyx4 жыл бұрын
Why would you expect Jagex to fix something that outputs completely useless data for them? The GE has a limiter on how much item values can swing day to day, so these "manipulations" only really effect those that are using GE tracker to try and pay the market. If you're paying 100m over the GE price of an item compared to GE tracker, you're being scammed pure and simple, and that's not Jagex's fault.
@rudyvela4 жыл бұрын
@@XxOzzyBoyx New items (like twisted) are easy to mess with. Just buy them out and then "trade" to your alt account via the GE to make it seem like many many more have been bought or sold at a lower price.That may be whats happening here. Someone owns a shitload of the item and just buys them out or dumps to the handful of players and then they fake sell a bunch more.
@XxOzzyBoyx4 жыл бұрын
That literally doesn't work unless nobody else on the GE is buying at a higher price than the person is selling it to themselves for, and all that means is the actual item price should be worth less than the GE price. New items are worth billions on release and then crash insanely hard within the first few weeks, there's very little consistent money to be made off of them.

I think this could be solved if the RS market board system displayed the usernames of the buyers and sellers like you have in WOW and SWTOR. The panic selling of items induced by the manipulated rolling averages on OSB would probably be largely eliminated if you could plainly see exactly your point: that people are buying and selling these items to themselves. Information flow and availability is a basic driving force of any market interaction, since it determines buyer&seller expectations of their NEXT purchase or sale, which is exactly what is being targeted by tricking people into thinking an item is crashing or spiking up. Why keep my DHCB **now** if I could buy the **next** one for higher or lower? Pretty simple concept but I think a just as simple solution would be to display WHO is moving these items around. I guess you could exploit even that by using multiple accounts which you own, but like you said in your video the exact internal priority calculations of the GE aren’t known to us so who knows. If your theory is correct, these people want you to think that a bunch of people out there are really eager to get rid of their DHCB, since (as far as the innocent player knows) the only way the displayed price could be moving like this is if actual sales were taking place and they must have some reason for trying to dump all their DHCBs so I should probably do it too . Edit: Since the RS marketboard system isn’t like an open-air auction like you have in WOW and SWTOR where you just see a long list of all the posted offers, the time it was posted and the username associated with it this might not work as effectively, but that was just my first impression

It's pretty easy for flippers to buy out the GE's entire stock of a low volume item and then sell it for a higher price.

what people aren't realising is anyone with a basic understanding of basic economics, if they're ballsy enough, they could well easilly dump thousands of dollars into this game and manipulate it. think about the realistic playerbase for specific items, and think about the potential profits? it's not hard to pump and dump a market, especially with runescape. it's very profitable. If you're willing to spend that much, you would most likely also get someone to get past the buy in limits. when it comes to making money in a "bargey" manner in runescape, (i.e botting, manipulation, g.e) there's almost always a way around the original "fix", which 99% of the time means get more accounts.
