I enjoyed that. My paste fishing started in 1953 when I was taught to make paste by moulding bread and water in a clean cloth. The harder it was the longer it stayed on the hook and the less i annoyed adults. So better start looking into this ''sloppy'' stuff. Thanks for taking the time to explain it all Jon.

I fished paste for years before I perfected it. I even make my own floats. I've had some incredible weights in just a few hours. A great way in the warmer months for catching those monster carp, that hang around in the margins. 8-13lb one a chuck doesn't take long to build a massive weight in just an hour.

I love your videos Jon. I've fished Paste for years in matches but this year I decided to only fish Paste and nothing else for a full season. I did my first KZbin fishing video back in 2013 and so far I've never come across anyone who fishes the Paste the same way as me? I have 1 number 8 stott and 2 number 4 backshot shot which along with the Paste anchor my float in position. I always dot my floats so the body is just under the water and then if I'm fishing close in I slide the number 08 stott down the line so it sits just above the float which then leaves a small amount of bristle showing, now when I pull on the line slightly back towards me the float will go under before the Paste moves so I always know when its come off. I've won loads of matches fishing with just a top kit as I can dot the float to a pimple and fish Paste to hand, I had over 250 Carp in a match fishing less than 3 foot from my box. If I want to fish top 4 or further I slide the stott back up the line and I've then got a good half inch of bristle showing. I can swap to bunches of Maggot or Corn without changing my rig by using the Stott. The first person I showed had never fished the pole before and ended up catching over a tonne without going beyond a top 4. I'm on a festival at Forest Lane this week and I've got the venue favourite on my lake so its going to be a tough 3 days. Daz

Nice video Jon! I was wondering when you use a float like the matrix slim carbon and you fish over depth, how do you know when the paste is coming off?
@JonArthur7 ай бұрын
You shouldnt need to wait long enough to know. Fishing with the paste acting on the float just increases the time it comes off. But if the float starts to move sideways that's the cue to rebait.

They're just a standard skrettins variety I believe. That's what they've always had at Packington. The new bags pellets there have returned to having black makers in them, but they were all plain a few months back. If you leave any skrettins pellet an extra day they seem to blow up even more.

Hi John, I'm 64 now done a bit of fishing in my earlier years, bit restricted now by poor health. In my day we had never heard of an F1, just commons,mirrors leathers, crucians. Looking at your F1s, to my eyes they look just like commons, could you explain the difference maybe on your next informal leasure trip. Thanks.
@scottandrewjohnmiddleton86762 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank an F1 is a first generation hybrid it's crossed between a common carp and a crucian carp there found in most commercial fisheries now as they feed well all year and don't grow too big so perfect for match fishing but they are more than happy to eat pleasure anglers bait too so good luck catching a few 👍
@oldbloke1352 жыл бұрын
Frank, when you've caught enough of them you can tell the difference when they are still in the water, they just look fitter and a nicer shape. When you have hold of them the most obvious difference is that, because they are half crucian, they usually don't have barbules like a carp, although some do have two very small ones.

To me, for f1's Jonny in this video is way over doing it paste size etc wise. F1 paste fishing for much faster catching - 10-12 hollow .... 0.15 main - 6 inch 0.13 hooklength and a PEA or broad bean size piece of paste (not a brussel sprout) on a 16 hook. I would use a 0.2 or 0.3 dibber 2ft and under. In this video this is how i would fish in the summer for carp and large f1's and just as he is catching. Now the idea that paste doesn't work in the winter/early spring is rubbish as Jonny proves here, if they take a pellet they will take paste BUT make your paste the same size as a 4/6mm expander would be. Just my opinion. Hail the Paste...! If this were a winter match like this, he'd already won the match pretty muich in 3 or 4 put ins lol. On its day paste really is unbeatable, the thing is EVERYDAY is paste day lololol. Great to see JA using his MTX2. Great video. Broad bean - fourteen (hook) Pea mean - sixteen (hook)
@JonArthur Жыл бұрын
There are F1s… then there are a Packington F1s! They average 2-4lb and go up to 12lb in this lake. Yes 12lb F1s! And do you know what the big ones always seem to be caught on? Great big lumps of paste! Agree ‘pea paste’ on a standard little F1 venue, but this specific lake is full of big grizzly fish and hordes of silvers, so fishing something between a little f1 rig and a carp rig is perfect. But agree on the finesse side on a lot of places the way Mr Machin pioneered 👍
