Hey Michael, I have a friend that was asking me if I know anybody that does winter pruning of grapes, She said she needs to watch a video. She said something about not doing it until December. I don’t know, I don’t have grapes. 😂

Primary pruning or the bulk of pruning should be done late winter. Spring thinning helps target vine growth you want and eliminate vine growth you don’t want before it creates something you don’t want to cut off the vine. It’s less traumatic for the vine to lose 1% of its leaf mass in the growing season than 20% etc. it’s more of a thinning than a pruning

question: my grape vine has two stems that grew from the main stem. One has one bunch of grapes, the other has 4 bunches of grapes. These vines are still in the early training stages and I let them get a little bit away from me. I’m still growing the “main stem” up to the wire. Should I cut off the one-bunch stem, or would it be ok to wait until the grapes are ripe later this year and then cut it off?

It probably wouldn’t hurt to just fix it this winter. In the winter I would recommend consolidating the vine to just one trunk.
