Early Spring Trout Fishing

This is part one of my Trout Opener fishing excursion. It snowed most of the day and the temperature never got above 35f but we DID catch fish. We spent the first part of the day fishing for wild browns. I'll load up some rainbow footage later.

I whack them on the head and cut the gills to bleed them out as soon as I catch them, I hate seeing trout thrashing around on a stringer. Also, try using fluorocarbon or mono leaders when you trout fish with braid, it makes a huge difference. Nice fish!

Me too. I guess im just a wimp like you i cant stand seeing anything suffer. Especially when its avoidable.

Dude... if you're going to eat the fish just wack them on the head when you get them. Stringers are cruel, and quite frankly keeping the fish alive for longer doesn't keep them fresh or improve the taste at all. The best sushi and sashimi restaurants will slaughter a fish and put it in ice water for 8 hours before they serve it. Allowing them to sit there stressed out actually increases the lactic acid in the fish and makes them more sour. Look up ikejime if you want some more information. Long story short, stringers aren't only cruel, they fuck your food up. For the record, I personally eat stuff that I catch. But making them suffer is just unnecessary.

Yeah, it was miserable...but on the upside there wasn't much fishing pressure since most folks stayed home.
