The rates of Alzheimer’s, dementia, and overall cognitive decline are increasing. However, our daily choices can increase our risk or set us up for optimal brain health, regardless of age. Today’s guest shares powerful research demonstrating how positive lifestyle choices can prevent decline and how she guides her patients in implementing these practices daily.
Today, on the Dhru Purohit Show, Dhru interviews Dr. Heather Sandison about neurodegenerative diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia and the importance of early detection and prevention. Dr. Sandison explains the Bredesen Protocol, which takes a comprehensive approach to brain health, and shares why she follows that protocol in her practice. She also discusses the benefits of sleep, stress management, exercise, and the ketogenic diet in preventing cognitive decline. Additionally, she shares why reducing environmental toxin exposure, maintaining metabolic flexibility, and practicing meditation are other vital parts of assessing overall brain health.
Dr. Heather Sandison is a renowned naturopathic doctor specializing in neurocognitive medicine and the founder of Solcere Health Clinic, San Diego’s premier brain optimization clinic, and Marama, the first residential memory care facility to have the goal of returning cognitively declined residents to independent living. She is the primary author of the peer-reviewed research “Observed Improvement in Cognition During a Personalized Lifestyle Intervention in People with Cognitive Decline,” published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease. Dr. Sandison hosts the annual online Reverse Alzheimer’s Summit, where she shares cutting-edge and tried-and-true insight into what is possible for dementia patients.
In this episode, Dhru and Dr. Sandison dive into:
-Early warning signs and detection of Alzheimer’s
-Early detection using The Bredesen Protocol and six components of brain health
-Compounding lifestyle habits that can prevent or lead to cognitive decline

Good topic and information- yes our food is toxic and I’ve totally changed my diet and these last three years have been game changing for me. I was diagnosed with PPMS and suffered terrible migraines. However I have people that are going through this with family and I have shared. Since diet change I have Not had any migraines-enough proof for me 👍

I’m surprised she didn’t say anything about brain exercises like learning a new language as an example or working on improving memory

Have there been any long term studies of people starting in their 30s thru 60s 70s documenting food, environment, lifestyle, etc ? This is what seems to be lacking. All studies sre starting when symptoms start

She’s not surprised that she has learned new information. She’s passionate about sharing what she has learned. There’s a difference.

@@whitGGG My point is her information isn't new. It's actually old news. Does she know this? People learn at different times in their life, and meanwhile Big Pharma is doing a fantastic job and killing millions of people everyday for decades. And I believe she said she was surprised... Regardless, I hope people start to be more proactive with their health and stop allowing their Drug pushers to take anything that Big Pharma pushes.

It’s called old age. It’s common to feel overwhelmed with plans as you age. Arranging a dinner for an extended family at 70 is certainly not going to be as effortless as when you were 40. It’s insulting that she would even use this type of thing as an example.

Dhru; your Guest offers some good information (much of it already known to some), but speaks too quickly; sometimes difficult to follow and not very thorough ... No mention of how critical K2 supplementation is NO MATTER how much Vit D you're taking.

@@curlyb4c95 Well the difference between the D from the sun, is not the same from the D hormone derived pill, all too synthetic and toxic to a lot of people and they don't know this fact. Try moving out to where you can get what God gave us... The sun! And most all sunscreens are highly toxic too.

Most people are vitamin d deficient even with the sun. So this isn’t surprising at all.
