I switched my nine-year-old son who has ADHD over to a 90% organic diet. The one thing I forgot to change was his lunch meat. He was doing better for sure but once I change the lunchmeat I can’t even explain he has 100% “normal” now. He just had a 27 point jump on his standardize math test and the teacher said she’s never seen anything like it. Diet is everything.

@@36jess3 he was already eating pretty healthy. We really started changing stuff over the last few years. My kids never eat chicken nuggets or any of those quick type things for the most part they like real food which is great. We do a lot of stuff like quesadillas and what not. I removed food dyes I wanna say about three years ago. That was huge for us! I buy the lunchmeat from Whole Foods. He also takes a good omega, fish oil, vitamin D, and the megaspore kids, probiotic.

I stopped ALL sugar and cut out all processed foods. I only ate fresh “1-ingredient food”. 2 weeks into the diet, I dreamed I ate a table full of doughnuts and felt SO guilty. I was told that the “bad bacteria” that lives on on sugar in my gut was dying off was crying out for their food and causing me to crave sugar! (I hate doughnuts!) The next day, there was a euphoric calm that I have never, ever experienced before. I will never go back!

I'm on day 28 of the WHOLE30 and I can say I started feeling better within days. I've struggled with IBS for 18 years along with ADHD, anxiety, depression, and insomnia. I'm sleeping better. I'm more motivated. More energy. My mood is better. I've had ONE stomachache in the past 28 days. And as a bonus, my knees aren't hurting. What you eat makes a huge difference! I didn't believe it until I tried it.

Mel - 2 months ago I had a revelation that dairy was a problem for me (I had reflux causing a nagging dry cough). This was self-diagnosed, but I immediately stopped eating all dairy. Within 3 days my reflux issue was 80% better!! I kid you not, I was floored. So I stopped eating gluten, wow now I’m about 90% better. Now I see this video and know the last piece to the puzzle, I am so close but now I have the tools and knowledge to get to 100%. So thank you for having Dr. Mark Hyman on, its a game changer for me in that I can resolve the final issues by knowing what I need to do to go forward at 60 for the best healthy years of my life!!

I have been on that same exact journey 🤯I have quit dairy and gluten, and I already feel so much better. It’s night and day. 3 months ago when I would play pickle ball (3 hours I’m retired.) I would have to come home and lie down the rest of the day. I was so exhausted I could hardly move and now I just keep going. I’ve also cut out sugar and now I’ve cut out artificial sugar. I was doing Monk fruit for a while and you know the thing just about erythritol causing strokes, so I just quit everything and the reason I love Dr. Ammend so much is his 10 day detox plan with the food list is free on the Internet. This man really cares about people.

So refreshing to hear this lecture listen to your body, detox and see how you feel, see what for for you. Thank you

This episode is life changing! The idea that what we eat can fix a lot of issues that people have like poor health, weight, anxiety, depression, addiction, etc is so inspiring. I’ve always felt people need to eat healthier and figure out the root problem before they resort to drugs, etc. I wish more doctors advised healthier habits before giving a prescription. Maybe there wouldn’t be such a drug overuse problem and anxiety/depression/weight & health issues in the world! And we would all be happier! 😁 I know when I feel like crap, I change what I’m eating. Your body does tell you when it’s not happy!

Thank you for this free appointment! I have literally been to the doctor 3 times in the last year for most of the symptoms discussed. I told my doctor I felt they were all connected. Never once did he discuss diet. In fact I was told I could only discuss ONE or TWO symptoms per visit because it would take to long to discuss all. Every test they run, gallbladder, heart, X-rays, come back saying I’m fine, but I continue to have joint aches, palpitations, twitching, foot pain, rib pain. I’m going to commit to the 10 days and see what happens.

Since I subscribed, I’ve been on a Mel-a-Thon which is big since I only listen to photography videos. I was fortunate that my mom, back in the 70s, educated us on having a colorful plate, eating whole foods and taught us about vitamins in the foods. I went on a no/low sugar diet (in HS) because I correlated skin breakouts with sugar. I was diagnosed with IBS in my 20s but it wasn’t in the forefront like it is today. So for decades I have struggled with balancing my diet. From one of your other podcasts (The Science of Strength Training-Dr Gabrielle) , I realized it’s time to cut out PB and GF bread in the morning. I found peanut butter to be very aggravating - learning that it’s part of the legume family. I have switched to almond butter and noticed a big difference. I went back on a pea protein chocolate smoothie in the morning with almond milk. And already feel fantastic in 3days. I reintroduced a probiotic that I take every morning first thing. My stomach inflammation has gone down significantly and I’ve cut down on snacking because of my increased protein. Please note that I took a D3 for one year and my D level did not increase. My level was 18 (20-100 is the range)I believe. It wasn’t until I took D3 plus K2 that my D level went up to 50! And my doctor never suggested it I’ve learned through a GF and tried it on my own. We have to be our own food detectives and be willing to make a change. It’s so worth it. Thank you!

This was such a powerful interview. Mel, you asked fantastic questions! I have done everything Dr. Hyman has spoken about here, and started down that path during a really dark, rough time in my life over a decade ago. Dr. Hyman was one of my resources for information. I know now I was in peri-menopause in my mid 40's but no doctor attributed what I was going through as that...I was offered a multitude of meds instead. It really affected my brain and body in a terrible way. I know now too, that much had to do with my gut health (maybe prompted by a long period of time on meds for shingles?). It's a long story but part of my deep sadness was that one of my son's was having a really hard time thriving in school. He had many of the issues described in this interview. First, with my husband's help, I started exercising again (I knew that was important but literally had no will so he was my will, thank goodness, I'm so grateful), then I started doing an elimination type protocol that Dr. Hyman mentioned. It was one of the hardest things I've done in my life as a busy mom of 3, one that needed so much extra support. I completely transformed and being an example for my family, my husband asked if I'd help our middle son with his nutrition to support his athletic goals. My middle son was on board, then the son that was having challenges asked if he could also do this "diet" so he could get better at his athletics. We literally had a different family in just a month or so. That middle son won the title he was after, the younger one was able to be who he truly was. They graduated with honors, went on to be engineers and have fantastic jobs, they continue to be very mindful of what they put in their bodies and continue to be athletes. Everyone was asking us what we were doing/what we did, even teachers/coaches. My friends, especially at my high school reunion. I decided to go back to school to study Nutritional Therapy and have since helped kids with severe issues such as autism improve their lives significantly. Cleaning up the diet while improving gut health is a game changer. I'm now 61, last year I ran my first marathon and even qualified for Boston. I feel I'm living the best years of my life at this stage. Thank you, Dr. Hyman and thank you, Mel Robbins for getting this information out. P.S. The one thing I may do differently is that while I eat a lot of colorful veggies/fruits, my diet is more protein forward, for me that has helped with body composition/regain lost muscle mass and athletic pursuits. I'd love for you to have Dr. Gabrielle Lyon on your podcast. In fact, her interview with Dr. Hyman was one of my favorites!

So inspiring your story is! Thanks for sharing! What would be the first step from yoyr practise, to start with gut health except for cutting the sugar and processed foods?
@hollymorellontp330
@hollymorellontp330 22 күн бұрын
@@annaurszula5420Hi! Thank you! When I’m helping someone in my family that asks for it this is where we start - always with food. This is what I suggest to them which is in alignment with Dr. Hyman and you can find more details in his books. Remove what is adding fuel to the fire in the gut (which you may not even feel). The fuel stoking the fire being excess ultra processed foods/refined grains, sugar (including beverages) and alcohol. You don’t usually need to be hard core all the time. Adopt a 80/20 rule…80% health supportive unless you are on a specific elimination diet or something like Dr. Hyman’s sugar detox of course. Eat as fresh and best quality whole foods (single ingredient) as you can afford: meat, eggs, seafood, produce, nuts, seeds, legumes, gluten free whole grains such as rice, natural fats such as extra virgin olive oil, ghee/butter, coconut oil, avocado, cream. Quality fermented dairy such Greek yogurt and cultured cottage cheese. Choose a variety of colorful vegetables and some fruits (I like to buy frozen raspberries, blackberries, cranberries, blueberries, and pomegranate seeds and mix together in a freezer safe container - I love 1/2 cup on my Greek yogurt, in my morning whey protein shake, or as a little snack or side dish /dessert I make with lite coconut milk, shredded coconut, chia seeds, chopped nuts and cocoa nibs. Work on slowly increasing fiber (I use chia and freshly ground flaxseeds in salads and Greek yogurt and I add psyllium husk to my morning protein shakes) - besides vegetables, legumes and minimal whole grains. Adding some fermented food each day can be very supportive of gut health/digestion. Lots of great and creative sauerkrauts these days, water kefir, Greek yogurt, cultured cottage cheese. Some people need to avoid dairy and grains for a period to help heal and then slowly add them back in - in that case it’s important to ensure you are consuming enough calcium rich foods and fiber. I personally feel better avoiding most grains, especially gluten but can tolerate an occasional mindful indulgence on occasion without consequence. However, I do increase gluten free whole grains when I’m training for a race though-I make my own gluten free sourdough bagels. Keep alcohol minimal/occasional if at all. Read labels of everything, sugar and sneaky non-food ingredients (additives, coloring, preservatives) are in so many products, and both can disrupt gut health as well as overall health. You can learn a lot by following Dr. Hyman’s work. All this is admittedly difficult at first, it can take some time to get the hang of it, but the payoff is tremendous. Perhaps take baby steps to start. You will learn lots of prep tips and easy meals to save time and effort as time goes on, assuming you commit to it. Thankfully there are many more minimally processed food available these days with just whole food ingredients that can help too. Lastly- I adjust my carbohydrate intake (which turns to sugar in the body) depending on my activity level. Macro requirements are highly bioindividual based on my factors. Being active is extremely important too! I hope this is helpful and not too overwhelming. Good luck!

Thank you Mel for asking Dr Hyman to simplify some of his answers. I have been watching Dr Hyman's videos for a while and I agree he speaks too fast sometimes. I understand 99% of what he says and I love his videos. I think he needs to learn to explain in much more simple terms to people who are not familiar with his terminology if he wants to reach more people who need help. Thank you to Mel Robbins and Dr Mark Hyman for being such an inspiration.

He suggests tomatoe slices for breakfast and eggplants. If you don't feel better in 10 days, take the nightshades out! Tomatoes, potatoes, eggplants, peppers of any kind. A subgroup of people get inflamation from it. He is describing a diet that works for the most number of people most of the time. Try AIP diet, low fodmap, if standard paleo does not work.

Yes! I’m a nurse and 53 and with all of my knowledge, it just literally hit me this week, that my body is a self regulating, healing machine, we just have the ensure we create or put ourselves into the right environment and feed our bodies with the foods that help aide the body in doing it’s job efficiently. Lol I have known this stuff for years and I have been struggling with chronic pain after a spinal injury. I have given to everyone else but myself and I forgot I matter too. My time now :)

Thank you so much for this video! It inspired me to get food sensitivity testing which found a lot of sensitivities to things like diary, eggs, wheat, rice, cane sugar, etc.. Now I have a super strict diet that stinks (I can enjoy an espresso with oat milk which is wonderful and carne asada tacos but that’s about it). My new significantly less delicious diet is the best thing ever though. Today I was able to enjoy a day at the fair in 104 degree heat. This is unheard of for me. In the last 15 years I would be lucky to last an hour at an event like this and, if I could make it, I would be miserable the whole time. I am now nearly migraine free and have more energy. Before I struggled with extreme fatigue and daily horrific migraines. I truly cannot thank you both enough. This is life changing to say the least. I feel like I have my life back.

I do not do well with 90% of veggies and rarely eat fruit. A big salad or 2/3 of my plate being veg just causes me huge gastric upset. It doesn’t work for everyone! I love Dr. Hyman - he has impacted the world for good - yet, I wish he would talk more about eating low carb and the benefits of a high fat/moderate protein diet.

Your gut can't handle a lot of vegetables because you don't eat them. Your body has to get used to a lot of fiber. If you introduce high fiber foods slowly your body will adjust. EVERONE has this problem initially. EVERYONE!

Mel, I LOVE YOU FOR THIS ❤️ I’ve been following you both separately for a while. You have each had more of an impact on my body & mind than I can explain, so to see you together is amazing! Sometimes listening to Dr Hyman I tend to get “lost” listening. The way you brought him back to simple & had him explain deeper was EXACTLY what I needed. I already kinda knew these things, but finally feel better about a simple plan vs overwhelming myself doing way too much at once. THANK YOU
