It's finally proper sweater weather!
In the middle of Fall, we celebrated the best way that we could possibly think of: afternoons in the woods foraging!
As the weeks passed by and the wind became stronger and colder, my little one found herself in needs of woolly items, so instead of purchasing them, I picked my knitting needles and made them myself. New designs are in the works, and socks have been on my mind!

Super excited for the natural sock-a-long! I started an experiment a year ago with this, tracking wear, washing, yarn, and technique details to compare how various yarns and materials hold up. Excited to find the right combo for my feet and walking style to avoid nylon as well, and so excited to share with and learn from others on this journey!

Highly anticipated vlog and I was not disappointed at all. I, too like rustic yarns and currently have a vast stash of it. I have 3 projects on needles at this time and all are rustic yarns. I especially like Nutiden yarn and purchase at least 300 grams each month as a Patreon. Love your style of knitting patterns and have purchased several of them. I started storing my yarns in paper bags and am conscious of my carbon footprint on this earth. Thank you so much for calm and serene approach to your vlogs and life!

It is always a joy to watch your podcast. And I have to say YES to a mystery shawl along. I would 100% participate 😍😍 I love working with unspun yarn so very much, there is nothing like it. Thank you again Melody, for such lovely podcasts, it is a work of art in itself!

I just found your video and love it. In 2019 I decided to start using more rustic yarns and work through my stash of other yarns. I am using them for gifts for my adult children and granddaughter as they would not take proper care of natural yarns. I look forward to the natural sock along.

Well our ancestors have worn wool socks for years and made them last somehow. My great grandmother said they'd darn socks that had holes in them, and that's why you always kept scrap wool around. But not everyone knew how to knit so maybe check out vintage sock patterns for some inspiration

I know this is an old video but as someone new to knitting and to your channel, I wonder if you might consider doing a video in 2023 with the results of the natural sock project and the most effective tips? I really want to decrease the amount of unnatural fibers in my clothing but I do quite a bit of outdoor manual work, so I wonder if it would be possible

Your videos are so lovely and relaxing to watch. I also am so excited for the natural sock along. I have quite a bit of nylon sock fibre in my stash, but once that is gone I am hoping to just spin sock yarn from natural wool in a way that will last. Can’t wait to be a part of this. 😊

So lovely to see you again Melody, your video was beautiful and exquisite as usual , transported into your “yarny” world! You have such talent in filming and with the music you include just blows over me like a gentle sea breeze. I am fascinated by your mushroom foraging, it would be lovely to know what you cook with them all! Is it usually olive oil, garlic and herbs? Mmmmmmmm! Thank you for the insight into your beautiful tranquil world. Love. Suze. 😽

Thank you so much for your sweet message Sue! Mushrooming is the highlight of Autumn for us! We consumed a lot of the mushrooms in soups and simply cooked in the pan with salt, butter and herbs. But the vast majority of them were put in the dehydrator to enjoy throughout the year ♥️

So at the end of 2022....can I still have access to do the sock-a-long? I had naturally moved to real fiber quite a while ago, but still using some super wash for socks. Have been experimenting with using real wool, adding silk or mohair to strengthen the fiber for sock wear. I would so love to learn more!

I had been looking for a sock a long! And.... one with natural fibers as this will be first time knitting for me socks! I spin so I have a pile of wool , various breeds, and natural wool in the stash. Looking to try adding some mohair for heels / toes as I read about this year, or other natural fibers or stitch ideas. I do have issue with high instep and need to fiddle with heel choice. I hope I can follow as I am terrible at instagram workings.

I will follow the natural sock a long ! i produce natural merino wool (worsted spun in UK) that i hand dye here in France. Probably not suitable for socks but i am investigating to find a blend suitable for socks not SW and nylon free. I have firends breeding wensleydales, may be a blend with mohair...i am thinking a lot around this topic and i will try some blends after the sheeps are shorn in 2022. Thank you for your videos

I am so excited for the natural sock-a-long! I found that superwash treated wool was uncomfortable for me to wear and decided to only use rustic yarns for socks. I know that many options are quite expensive so I wanted to highlight Briggs & Little, a Canadian company that produces affordable rustic sock yarns (options with and without nylon but all non-superwash!).

This showed up as a recommended video. I have to say, good job on the algorithms. I am very committed to avoiding nylon and using only natural fibers in my makes, and I would love to start with socks soon. I've heard mohair is a good substitute for nylon. Any advice on getting a good fit for socks? My mother in law wants to teach me but her socks are very floppy and fall off at the heel, no matter who she makes them for, I really like a fitted sock, so any resources would be great. Hopefully I can follow along next year!
